Great little keyboard

By Robert Jay from Gypsum, CO on May 2, 2016

The money and the operation of this unit are fantastic! I'm thinking of getting rid of my big keyboard and going with just the taktile. It is perfect for small studio recording and is full of great sounds. Had a little problem with my daw interfacing but was helped right away. Nice job guys!

Great value for the price

By Shane Krout from Dover, PA on June 9, 2016 Music Background: Bass, Guitars, Keys, songwriting and recording, live performance

I needed an inexpensive synth for some basic piano and string parts for live performances and found this unit. With a name like Korg Triton, it's hard to go wrong. Controls are easy to use and it seems fairly sturdy even if it's all plastic. Good piano and string sounds. Several choir and synth sounds are good as well. Be aware though that you cannot attach an external MIDI controller. MIDI port is output only. I wanted to use another MIDI controller to make up for the small keybed of the taktile-25, but you cannot. Wish the documentation was clearer about this. Also be aware that it is powered by USB only. Besides these two small drawbacks, I think this is a good value for the sounds and features you get.

Great MIDI Keyboard Controller! Well Done Korg.

By Andrew Campbell from Miami, FL on May 2, 2016 Music Background: Playing for 5 years now

I bought this with the intention of using it solely as a supplement to my bass guitar with my laptop on gigs. However, it works really well in a home studio setting as well.

Pros:
- The Korg brand name and the build quality gave me something I could trust in.
- The Korg Software suite gives you a really great selection of synths to mess around with and choose from; Not to mention Reason Limited as well as Ableton Live for a reduced cost.
- The ability to choose between a great selection onboard sounds or what you have loaded into your DAW is great plus. This saved me on my 3rd gig with it when my laptop crashed during the performance. Biggest Pro right here!!!
- Can be powered via a USB brick/charger. No need for a laptop.
- Lightweight
- Keybed feels great.
- 1/8 Output jack makes it easy to practice while out on the road. Real portability.
- Ability to create your own DAW/MIDI profiles

Cons:
- 1/8" Output level is not as loud as one would like.
- While USB power is a pro, I personally wish it individual power.
- No rotary encoders. It would be nice to be able to map dials to it while in use with Ableton, but this keyboard is already packed with so much more that to ask for more would be greedy.
- I personally haven't quite gotten the built in midi mapping for all the buttons to work, such as the playback controls, despite the preset profiles that the keyboard came with. That may require some more tweaking.
- Trigger Pads are not recognized separately from the keys. So no drums or sample triggering while playing voices/instruments with the keys.

Overall, great keyboard controller. But the output level being so low is real issue for me. The issue with some of the DAW presets not working directly out the box means you may not be able to plug and play in a gig setting. A little configuring might be needed, based on your purpose.

Limited but interesting

OK, I was really intrigued by this unit, so much so that I paid extra to order one from Japan, before they were readily available in the U.S.

This unit has loads of great features, and is very portable. You could pretty much pop it in a backpack and go to a jam session - it's that light and small.

I'm not going to list the wonderful features here - Korg does that on their site - I'm going to give you my short overview of it's strengths and limitations.

Strengths:
• some of the (Triton) sounds are truly incredible
• the pads feel pretty good
• pads - good colour reference
• the keybed feels quite good
• very portable

Weaknesses:
• the ability to alter the sounds is very limited
• these alterations can NOT be saved to memory - bummer
• the effects are few, subtle and can't really be exaggerated
• the system for selecting patches is a total joke
(you should have seen me at a live gig last night, trying to get from one to another quickly - ribbon controller type access only - pathetic)
• 1/8" headphone jack style audio out, flimsy
• plastic switches and knobs feel cheap
• the display is not very informative

All that said, if you can get one cheap enough, the sounds are so great that someone who is a bit more of a novice, may be blown away and have loads of fun with it. Perhaps a good starter unit.
