Awesome Value for the MoneyMay 3, 2012 Music Background: Strong/Hobbyist First of all, I am a novice player...but I've been around guitars all of my elderly life. I remember when Gibson Hummingbirds sold for $600.00 new and that was a l... read more [+]ong time ago...I normally don't write reviews but whenever I fine an exceptional bargain I want others to know my IMO. I've got a couple of nice guitars (a Guild and a 1976 Ovation Legend)...and even a new technology Fretlight guitar (that I LOVE) but I wanted a small travel guitar that I could take around to plunk on that was playable, nicely adorned, but not terribly expensive...I researched Taylor (Big Baby & Mini GS), Martin, and a few others too – all nice guitars and highly rated by others. But some, like the Martin and Gibson parlor guitars were just so expensive and way too nice for what I wanted this guitar for... In my research I ran across this Wechter guitar that I was unfamiliar with. After lots of research, I decided to place an order with Sweetwater on a Monday morning. My Wechter guitar arrived by Fedex two days later on Wednesday. Nicely boxed in protective wrapping, inside the included gig bag, and undamaged. It was so well packed that it took a little while to see the guitar... The guitar looks exactly like the pictures – it looks really nice...like it cost lots more (should have?). Solid spruce top, mahogany sides and back - all have a beautifully grained appearance...I can observe no flaws in the grain or finish anywhere. The neck is a rounded “C” on the back like a typical acoustic but it it not a large big neck and it is easily barred by even a novice like me. One of the reasons I was attracted to this guitar was the inclusion of the Fishman electronics. They are excellent. A chief complaint about travel guitars is that they are not loud enough if you want to play louder or play with others...these electronics solve all of those problems...I've tested them and they work great. The guitar really sounds good when amped. Mr. Wechter used to work at Gibson. His “Plek” machine is awesome for setting up the guitar. The strings are very low to the fretboard and there is no buzz – the “Plek” machine must be amazing. Bottom line...best $389.00 I've ever spent. Great guitar and thanks Mr. Wechter (& Sweetwater)! I've played martin's and Taylor's but this is one heck of a mind-blowing guitar for its price. i totally recommend this breathtaking guitar 5/5 rating! close [-] Nice sound, not very loud

Don't expect to play along with other guitars unless you're plugged in or they play very lightly.January 6, 2012 Music Background: guitar picker just for fun since 1970, kirtan music Playing lightly gives a decent sound, if you dig in it doesn't increase the volume much. I rarely have an amp with me, but the couple times I've used one, this sounds pretty good. The idea with this for me was the smaller guitar may give me room to carry an amp in our little Honda Civic with the rest of the family. Easy playing, kind of like a regular guitar with a capo up the neck, easy to reach stuff. close [-] Also popular
