Sweetwater Advice

The Wechter Travel Elite has to be the coolest "small" guitar out there. There are a couple other "small" guitars on the market, but this one is Plek'd, which means it has a very playable neck. The construction and workmanship are equal to guitars costing many times as much. Oh, and it sounds way bigger than it looks. Need a guitar for smaller hands, for traveling, or for a beginner? This is it.

Great travel and every day guitar

I bought the Wechter 1710 solid Spruce Top model and find it to be an excellent guitar. Overall the guitar is well made, stays in tune and is a dream to play. As expected, my spruce top sounded somewhat harsh and boxy at first, but within a week it started developing that spruce sound I love. (I'd love to try the mahogany top model.) The scale length is easy to adjust to. The setup is good with a playable action, but I think I will have the nut slots lowered just a bit after 6 months. I added a strap button to the heel of the neck and the guitar hangs on a strap perfectly positioned with the waist just above my right knee. The company's ad copy touts this as a guitar for kids or people with small hands, yet I'd like to add another group of guitar players - us aging guitar players with age-related elbow and shoulder problems. I can play this guitar without any "tennis elbow" pain. Can't say how happy I am to be playing guitar again. I highly recommend this guitar.

Bought 1710 used for $79.00!

This is no $79 guitar! I saw it hanging in the acoustic room of a guitar shop and saw the price and was surprised because it was a very expensive looking guitar. I looked it up online and immediately ran back and bought it and saw the nice padded gig bag and was blown away even more at the price I paid. I fell head over heals in love with this guitar the first weekend I played with it. The finish work is awesome and it plays like a dream. I agree with the reviews that say it is hands down the best travel guitar period even over the martin and baby taylor. Dont let the "made in china" on the label inside fool you. This is like a mini Martin D-35 and I am very happy. Everyone I have shown gives me oohhs and ahhhs when they see it too. Best deal Ive found in a long time on anything :0)
