Decca Trees have been used since the '50s for capturing wide stereo images of large ensembles, symphonies, choirs, and more. The Super Decca Tree will let you mount a spaced pair of mics 2.5 meters apart, and a center "focus" mic 1.25 meters in front of those. Spaced-pair stereo recording uses the arrival time differences between two mics to create a stereo image, so even a tiny imperfection in their orientation can prevent you from getting the right sound.
