I make fun of myself a little with that title, but then, I usually only write about a products I really like .This is a great Fender amp as others before me have observed, Here's a cool piece of tech... read more [+]incal minutae about this amp (for those of you who are turned off by a SS pre-amp):The single 12AX7 tube in the Super Champ XD has a split function: one triode, (side) of the 12AX7 tube is a "short" type phase inverter, the other triode is a regualr Fender,gain stage. So, that makes it pretty much the same thing as the "tube preamp" in the Marshall AVT hybrids (except in the superchamp its properly biased, hot at 275-300 volts). This is the same kind of setup found in expensive Tube Overdrive pedals..Also, turning off the DSP, and using the normal channel you have a basic fender (mostly) tube amp, with simple volume, treble, and bass controls. A couple of classy polishes to an amp that Fender didnt have to give that kind of attention to. Somone or someones, put a lot of thought into this amp. Those are a couple of nice things to know if your thinking about buying this amp, but are suspicious of modeling and SS amp technology. Im like you, I hate solid state amps, but apparenlty Fender knows that. close [-]
