At the request of Pat Thrall (Glenn Hughs, Black Crowes, Beyonce), the original sounds in Superior Drummer 2.0 were recorded in 2005 at the soon-to-be-closing Hit Factory studio in New York. For the session, Pat invited experienced producer and engineer, Neil Dorfsman (Kiss, Bruce Springsteen, Dire Straits, Sting), who, in turn, brought along renowned live and session drummer Nir Z whose credits include acts such as Joss Stone, Genesis, and Chris Cornell. Nir Z brought along his GMS drums, and Pat, Neil, and the Toontrack production team went to work! The result is the amazing collection of great kits played by famous drummer that comes standard with Toontrack's Superior Drummer 2.0.

To expand Superior Drummer 2.0's great collection of drums and drummer's performances with the Custom & Vintage SDX, Toontrack hired Chris Whitten — known for his work on Paul McCartney's Flowers In The Dirt album and subsequent record breaking World tour, and Dire Straits 18 month On Every Street tour among many others. The content was recorded at 2Khz studio in London using an EMI TG Desk used for many legendary recordings of the early seventies including The Beatles' Abbey Road and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. The Custom & Vintage SDX features extensive stick and brush recordings of a unique collection of drums and cymbals. And with the Custom & Vintage SDX, not only do you get a the work of a great performer playing, but you also get the sound of the excellent drums he used, like the 1920s Ludwig Black Beauty, or Craviotto Timeless Timber.
