We are working with our friends at From Our Research Team:A Whole New Way to Create a Groove!Stylus RMX is a completely new groove-based virtual instrument plug-in for Macintosh and Windows. Stylus RMX is the first product to offer the combined power of Groove Control with Spectrasonics Advanced Groove Engine (S.A.G.E.) technology giving users dramatic new control over groove production and performance. Stylus RMX functions as a plug-in and virtual instrument in all major DAW software including Apple Logic, MOTU Digital Performer, Digidesign Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Steinberg Cubase SX, Nuendo, V-Stack, Apple Garage Band, Fruity Loops, Sony Acid Pro, Cakewalk Sonar, Project 5 and many other VST and Audio Unit host applications. Stylus RMX is a DJ's window into computer audio production.Spectrasonics Stylus RMX at a Glance:
A new virtual instrument created from the ground up Spectrasonics' in-house development team created the new instrument from the ground up, with dozens of new features including the ground-breaking Chaos Designer, a completely redesigned multi-page user interface, a new core library of sounds, all with a focus on realtime groove creation and performance. New core library with 7.4GB of samples The massive new 7.4 gigabyte core library in Stylus RMX has thousands of cutting-edge grooves and sounds that were created by Spectrasonics' international sound design team, and produced by Eric Persing. The new core library contains nearly triple the amount of sounds originally offered in the original Stylus, and contains all the original material as well. The new sounds and grooves in Stylus RMX offer a much wider range of modern musical genres than the original Stylus. Mixes of grooves are broken down into individual tracks called Elements for flexibility and infinite combinations. Thousands of new kit modules and user drum kit construction Also new in Stylus RMX are thousands of new Kit modules, as well as user Kit construction. The new sound menus have over 10,000 new single hits, all arranged in organized categories. Users can create their own customized multitrack remix grooves and kits, save them into the plug-in, and even share them with other Stylus RMX users on different platforms and hosts. It's the ultimate Remix-oriented sound module for building grooves. "Xpandable" with five new S.A.G.E. Xpanders Stylus RMX marks Spectrasonics' first expandable virtual instrument, with a series of five new "S.A.G.E. Xpanders" for Stylus RMX. Stylus RMX also can be expanded with existing Groove Control CD-ROM libraries and even REX files - which opens the door for musicians to utilize their own audio loops within the powerful S.A.G.E. Environment. Chaos Designer introduces musical chaos into a groove Of the many new capabilities in Stylus RMX, possibly the most innovative feature is the Chaos Designer. With simple controls, the user can introduce musical Chaos into the groove, which allows it to have constantly evolving variations- giving the impression that the audio grooves are improvising. The results can be subtle or extreme by setting the simple to use controls. A Capture feature allows the spontaneous audio chaos patterns to be made into a MIDI file, dragged and dropped into the host sequencer, and played back again for further editing by the user. Stylus RMX operates as a virtual instrument software plug-in for Macintosh and Windows in all major hosts including Apple Logic, MOTU Digital Performer, Digidesign Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Steinberg Cubase SX, Nuendo, V-Stack, Apple Garage Band, Fruity Loops, Sony Acid Pro, Cakewalk Sonar, Project 5 and many other VST and Audio Unit host applications. After reading several other reviews, it seems that there have been complaints about the limited usefulness of the supplied sounds and grooves across multiple genres.September 2, 2006 Music Background: Pro Musician,Teacher,Live Sound,Studio Sound First of all, I don... read more [+]'t believe that there is (or will ever be) a real substitute for a real drummer. But most of us don't have the luxury of having one on demand for all of our recording and live playing projects, nor the time/money to spend in the studio getting the right sounds, etc. So I feel that Stylus RMX fits the need quite nicely for me, and many others in the profession that I've had the pleasure to work with. Out of the box, Stylus does a pretty good job, but I typically only use the built-in grooves for percussion tracks, and build most of my own grooves - I often use kit mode for that. That is because I go for a more acoustic and natural vibe - (RMX stands for Remix, so you get the idea of where much of the included material can be applied). Chaos does a great job of randomizing the groove, which gives it even more of the natural feel I like. With edit groups, you can apply some of the killer built-in effects to near individual groove elements (add reverb to snare, for instance, or mute select snare hits for half-time feel, etc.), or further customize a built-in groove. This can greatly enhance the use of the Xpanders, especially BackBeat and Retro Funk, because sometimes you need a little extra with those libraries to fit your needs. Basically, if you're looking for something that will give you a good, authentic acoustic drum sounds & feel, be prepared to do at least a little work. There is also the flexibility to import your own samples, which creates infinite possibilities for the use of this instrument. Don't like the included 7 gig library? Use a different one, or even create your own. Before writing off this product, I highly recommend investigating all of the functionality it packs. There may be a bit of a learning curve, but with the supplied DVD tutorials, that can be quickly overcome. In closing, this is an excellent product, and there isn't a vsti that compares. But no one product can be all things to all people. This product was not made to replace every other product you own or wish to own. This product was designed for broad uses, but please don't criticize it for things it wasn't specifically made for. That's like criticizing an RV for not doing 0-60 in under 5 seconds, or complaining that your brand new Corvette doesn't seat enough people. close [-] Stylus RMX

I know Jammie Bonk uses this on most of his drum back ups. I wish there were some more easy way to edit the patches like in Reason. I would recomend you try this one somones system before you buy it, it is an envisment in software so make sure you want to buy it. All in all it nice to have. Matrix movies.September 1, 2005 Music Background: I got the SAGE Backbeat expander as well, which I thought would be more 'pop', and yes, it is, but I lament the lack of grooves given, not too many to choose from really. Also, the sounds are just very processed, clean, too digitally clean perhaps. I wished it were at least some groove options that were 'dirtier', grittier, like those drums recorded live. So if you are considering applying it for more 'live' sounding samples, I don't think the sound cuts it. But if you want clean and processed samples, then maybe. close [-]
