Capture the Tone and Style of a Modern Blues Legend

The Fender Robert Cray Standard Stratocaster is a sophisticatedly strong persuader that captures the blues legend's unmistakable tone and style. This head-turning solidbody electric guitar boasts a comfortably contoured, balanced-sounding alder body, and its gloss-finished '60s "C"-shaped neck and 9.5-inch-radius rosewood fingerboard ensure amazing playability. The Robert Cray Strat yields a range of classic tones, from bell-like and jangly to biting and bluesy, courtesy of a trio of vintage-style single-coil pickups. You also get modern 5-way switching for easy access to the full gamut of Strat tones. You'll benefit from high-quality hardware, including vintage-style tuners and a rock-solid hardtail bridge. A signature-emblazoned headstock and light-catching gloss finish round out this killer axe. If you're searching for the perfect, blues-fueled weapon, then the Robert Cray Standard Strat is your smoking gun.

Comfortable '60s "C" neck

The Fender '60s "C"-shaped neck set the standard for a comfortable, versatile neck shape. Guitarists at Sweetwater find that this neck is suitable for all manner of styles, and players spanning various hand sizes find it a joy to play. The Robert Cray Standard Stratocaster's 21-fret rosewood fingerboard is set at an easy-playing 9.5-inch radius for a decidedly modern feel.

Classic Strat chime and bite

No matter how well you play, your tone lives and dies by the pickups in your axe. The Fender Robert Cray Standard Stratocaster sports three vintage-style single-coil pickups, which are known far and wide for their classic bell-like, jangly, smooth, and bluesy tone. These pickups deliver bright and clear cleans with the perfect amount of midrange bite. When you plug the Robert Cray Strat into your favorite tube amplifier, you'll find everything from smooth mellow tones to biting, blues-tinged leads, all within a casual twist of a volume knob. On top of that, you get a modern 5-way blade pickup selector, supplying access to an endless array of classic Strat tones.

Rock-solid hardtail-style bridge

Often overshadowed by traditional Synchronized Tremolo-equipped models, Fender has produced hardtail Stratocasters since 1955. For the player who doesn't require a trem, the hardtail model offers many advantages, including improved tuning stability, easier setups, and faster string changes. By removing the route needed for the vibrato unit, hardtail Strats have a higher body mass, netting you added resonance and sustain.

Fender Robert Cray Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar Features:

  • Signature solidbody electric guitar of contemporary blues legend Robert Cray
  • Vintage-style single-coil pickups provide classic Strat tone
  • Modern 5-way switch wiring provides easy access to the full gamut of Strat tones

Amazing instrument

My son's Sterling Cutlass has good tone, but the tuning can be a pain and he never uses the tremolo anyway. Since he's gotten more serious with his playing I bought him this hardtail Strat, but swapped out the pickups for SSL-5 in all positions and had Sweetwater also do the blender mod and PLEK.

All I can say is, the guitar made me want to switch out my Ibanez for a Stratocaster for the first time. It's incredible in all ways I can think of; the sustain is god-tier, the tone is crazy good, and the higher output from the SSL-5 pickups makes it sound good even playing metal. The playability of the guitar is as good as any I've ever touched, at least. It sings even unplugged.

The best part with Sweetwater is always the service. When the guitar arrived it had a roughly 1/2" ding in the finish, down to the wood on one side. My son didn't want to send it back, the original copy played so well. It obviously didn't affect playability, but they replaced everything without a hassle. You can't go wrong with this company.

All I Can Say Is WOWZA!

The Robert Cray Stratocaster is Fender's only hard-tail Strat currently in production under the Fender name and it's one if Fender's best-kept secrets. Mine is the sunburst model.

Firstly, it is a MIM (Made in Mexico) Stratocaster. So what? The difference between a USA and a MIM Fender guitar is around 50 miles. I've owned good and bad Fenders from both sides of the border. This one is the absolute best Fender I've played in almost 60 years of playing guitar.

As guitars go, this one gives you a lot of bang for the buck. I've looked and cannot find a single flaw in the fit or finish or anything else. I expected to find some rough "picky" fret ends, but there are none. The neck pocket is tight. The bridge, tuners and other hardware are tight. No interior rattles. It shipped from Sweetwater in Indiana to my house in Maine and it was still in tune when I pulled it out of the case!

This guitar checks all the boxes for me. Besides being a hard-tail Strat, it has a meaty (thick) neck, like they used back in the late '50s and early '60s. Personally I prefer a thicker neck over thinner ones. and this neck fits my hand perfectly. I also prefer rosewood fretboards, which this has. And I actually like the unique vintage Custom Shop pickups Fender makes and uses exclusively on this model only.

Finally, this thing resonates like crazy. Sustain is amazing. The thicker neck and solid fit into the body pocket certainly adds to that. This Strat is built for rockin' the blues. Ayuh, this guitar definitely gets my seal of approval.

Awesome Hardtail Strat

I'm mainly a bass player, but I wanted a good single coil guitar for some recording projects. I've never been very good with the tremolo, so I chose the Robert Cray model in the sunburst finish. Once I had it dialed in - intonation and tuning, I've had a hard time putting it down. The solid hard tail in my opinion aids in the resonance - it rings out even when played unplugged.
The neck is good and chunky and fits my bassist hand perfectly. The tuning keys are even similar to my Fender basses. The gorgeous finish is flawless too. Don't underestimate this guitar just because it's MIM. This is a quality instrument.

Great Hardtail Strat!!!

I received my Robert Cray Strat in a beautiful 3 color sunburst and it weighs just under 7 pounds. This light weight strat is not only a joy to play, it also sounds great and is responsive. I ordered this and my rep Tom Koch made sure that this was delivered promptly and even sending me pictures of my new guitar. When I received the guitar I lowered the action after installing 9's and wiring up the tone knob for the bridge pickup (a simple jumper is all that is needed). After those personalized adjustments, the guitar played wonderful to my specs. I have to say that this is definitely a keeper and a great deal. Tom Koch has been my rep for several years and never lets me down.
