Fender created these prototype finishes to try something new, while keeping the best of the old. If you love the sound of a Strat^®, but also want something with a different look than the usual fare, the Prototype American Special Strat HSS is your guitar.

HSS pickup configuration gives you all the vintage tones you can handle
Fender's Texas Special single-coil pickups give you the sound that redefined Texas Blues, and the Fender American Special Stratocaster HSS packs a pair of 'em. The low-end is nice and tight, mids have plenty of bark and bite, with bell-like highs on top. Factor in the extra agression of the Atomic Humbucker™, perfect for powerful leads or beefing up the middle pickup, and you've got the wide range of rich tones your tube amplifier has been begging for.

Greasebucket tone circuit = no more mud
Have you noticed how your note definition can suffer when you roll your tone knob back? Of course there are lots of tone circuit designs out there, but the Greasebucket tone circuit in the American Special Stratocaster HSS lets you roll off highs without adding low frequencies. That means you can get mellow, subdued tones without your tone getting muddy and indistinct. Hey, we know many players never touch their tone control - but maybe that's because they don't have the Greasebucket tone circuit.
