Customer Reviewsfrom Tucson, the other Arizona February 20, 2011 Music Background: Playing guitar since 1967. The best Strat I ownI already have 1956, 1958 and 1964 r/w Strats but I worry about taking them out of the house as the climate here is often so dry (like 8% r.h. at times) and it isn't unusual to have 35 degree temperature swings in a day. I do have a 90 Clapton Strat but with my smaller hands I find the neck shape awkward and tiring after awhile.Stopped by the local guitar store and played some Fender Custom Shop Strats but then I came across several E.J. Strats. While the specs say that the E.J. model has a 'soft V' neck profile it is softer than the Clapton and my left hand fit the neck well. The frets are fabulous on the r/w neck, and while I would have preferred to have the neck unbound the white binding wasn't a deal breaker. Very resonant body and neck. The special pickups are voiced quite well and perform through a variety of amps (Fender, Mesa, Fractal Axe), and having the bridge pickup wired to the tone control is quite useful. The bottom line is that I play this guitar quite a bit (I have other vintage Fender, Gibson, and Gretsch guitars) because I enjoy it so much, and am looking to buy another with the maple neck. Yes, the nitrocellulose finish will eventually show some weather-related wear but I believe it contributes to the great resonant tone you get.
