In addition to its nitrocellulose-lacquer-finished 2-piece alder body, this '62 Stratocaster captures many other idiosyncrasies of the 1962 Stratocaster's tonewoods. One of the most remarkable of these is its rounded dark rosewood laminate fretboard shaped to the radius of the '62 Stratocaster's large C-shaped maple neck.

Fender had just moved away from the "slab" style of fingerboards in 1962, because they had a tendency to split from the neck due to humidity changes. The rounded laminate method minimized the differences in the way the two woods contracted, but it was far more costly, as the single piece of rosewood had to be hand contoured to perfectly fit the neck. By painstakingly recreating this process the Fender Custom Shop ensured that the "Sweet '60s" '62 Stratocaster would give you the same feel and sound as an original 1962 Stratocaster.
