An Excellent Mic Locker Addition!

This mic has a special sound. It's uniquely suited for leads because it makes sources pop out of a sonic canvas like a retina-splicing streak of cheez doodle orange. I've had great results on vox (so long as they're not the super-sibilant type), on bright acoustic guitar, and on horns.
My only criticism is of the included shockmount...the threading is awkward and tight, so screwing in the mic is a tad annoying. Not such a big deal.
Even if you have enough pocket change for a vintage U47 tube mic, you should get this thing!

If you're looking for a tube mic to "warm up" or "smooth out" an edgy sound source, don't get this mic. It should NOT be considered an effect. However, you do get fantastic rendering of true sound with little to no inherent harshness. Tonally, the Sputnik holds it's own with other like-priced mics. I recently had a violinist A/B herself on the Sputnik and a KM-184. She couldn't decide (though I thought the KM-184 had a slight advantage). On piano, the Sputnik seems to find many more sweet spots than the KM-184. Sputnik sounds terrific and is nigh impossible to beat on a tight budget. With the multiple patterns, a pair opens up all the stereo techniques.
