“If you're looking for a tube mic to "warm up" or "smooth out" an edgy sound source, don't get this mic. It should NOT be considered an effect. However, you do get fantastic rendering of true sound with little to no inherent harshness. Tonally, the Sputnik holds it's own with other like-priced mics. "When I think of microphones, M-Audio is not a company that I typically think of. However, I must say that the Sputnik is a microphone I've been overlooking for some time because of this thinking. After having taken the Sputnik into my own studio and doing a shoot-out with several other mics around its price, I was pleasantly surprised in how well the M-Audio Sputnik fared. With just a little EQ and a touch of compression, it does sit well in the mix. For an affordable microphone, it's quite the value. "
