Brilliant from California September 6, 2011 Music Background: 33 years of rock'n the house! Line 6 Spider Valve MkII HD100Great Sounding amp, warm & LOUD!!The MK II effects can be tweeked to get any sound you need. I like that you can update the firmware directly from the website The modeling section is unbeleivable I own A few amps. this is an all in one monster. If you can't get a sound out of this amp, you might be tone deaf. from Orange County, CA May 31, 2011 Music Background: 20+ Years Jack of all Trades...I've been playing guitar for over 20 years & I know a thing or two about guitar tone. My friend owns the Spider Valve MKII 40 watt combo and he let me try it out at his house. I was blown away!!! My prior experience with Line 6 was the original Vetta amp that my other friend uses. That amp is solid state which I'm not a big fan of. Amp simulators, in my opinion, are like a tub of margarine. Sorry but it's not like real butter. The richness, texture and creaminess are all missed with solid state amp tone, at least at normal full band jam volume levels! So needless to say when I plugged the Spider Valve MKII, I could not believe the tone. Now, the amp is not perfect, but it's the closest thing I've witnessed. Being a full tube amp, you get all the tube tone, only with a hint of the solid state tone from the on board effects processor. And with all this amp does, I can live with that! I quit using my Mesa Duel and also my JMP head since I purchased the 100 watt version head. Beautiful cleans, Thundering Gains, Blues Twang and all points in between. It pretty much eliminated my effects pedal board as well. Well all except for the Deja Vibe... There's no replacing that pedal! All in all, I'm a huge fan of the amp and I can't believe that Line 6 won me over. BUT THEY DID!!! THANXfrom Midwest February 10, 2010 Music Background: old has been Line 6 Spider Valve (Bogner style)I use this head on a weekly basis in the studio for practicing with the other band mates, I was very skeptical about paying 800 bucks for a Line 6 amp with other band mates asking “why the hell you going to buy a Line 6 that’s for kids with the toys already assembled”, but I got to be honest I really like this amp. I would not have purchased this if Bogner was not involved. It is rugged and the construction is solid and the sound is incredible. It has settings on it that I will never use, but I like the fact that I can tweak them and save. I suggest that you purchase a pedal that (FVB) you can use with it to change back and forth to your saved settings. Ok let me go to the negative then tell you the positive. On the negative: The front logo lights up; not a fan of this. Be careful when switching to different settings; volume can be set to scare the shit out of you! Line 6 uses a cable for the foot pedal like a computer jack, what’s with that? Use a 1/4 LIKE THE PROS! There are secret codes to noise reduction and other treasures that you need to find out by reading the manual; whatever…just make it so I can use it on the fly, I can be very dim-witted sometimes, line 6 please make it GO AWAY; OH THE MADDNESS! Now the Pro: Sounds great once I got the settings tweaked and saved. I like the tape echo which is not really the sound of the original tape echo; but it’s cool. I really like the deep tube sound coming out of my MESA ENGINEERING 4X12 cab with this head. I used it once at a gig in very cold venue (the furnace was not working very well) the amp held up and I did not have any issues with volume lost and I did not mic it; small venue. It is great for the studio and that’s where I plan on keeping it, but I would not hesitate to taking it to a few gigs though. It’s made sturdy and I would purchase another one.
