From Our Research Team:

Along came a Spider...with tubes!

The Spider Valve Series merges the best of Line 6 modeling technology with a long-time love of guitarists, the tube amp. Developed in cooperation with Bogner, the valve-driven Spiders have Line 6 modeling on the front end along with a pair of 12AX7s to begin shaping the tone, with an all-tube 6L6 power amp circuit. This gives guitarists a “best-of-both-worlds” scenario, with the flexibility of a modeling amp with pure tube tones from the Spider Valve series. Line 6 once again re-invents modeling with the Spider Valve!

Line 6 Spider Valve 112 at a Glance:
  • Modeling with tubes, not modeling tubes
  • Effects

Modeling with tubes, not modeling tubes
Spider Valve delivers 12 channels of amp modeling - combined with several flavors of built-in modulation, delay and reverb – driven by an all-tube, all Bogner amplification design boasting 6L6 power tubes, 12AX7 preamp tubes, and premium Celestion Vintage 30 speakers, combining the performance, response, and feel of a well-crafted tube amp with the inspiring capabilities of amp and effect modeling.

The Spider Valve design combines 12AX7 preamp tubes with Line 6’s signature modeling front-end, a marriage that allows each part of the sonic equation to deliver what it does best: creamy, cascading distortion and enriched harmonics from the tubes, and 12 of the world’s finest amp models and seven stunning effects from the modeling front end. And, of course, perfectly matched 6L6 power tubes driving Celestion Vintage 30 speakers to deliver unprecedented sonic impact and spatial imaging. With the simple front-end controls and display, programmable patches and presets are instantly within reach. Tweak your tone even further with the front panel Presence, Drive, Bass, Mid and Treble controls: this is a true-blue tube amp, and it acts like one, responding and delivering all the analog detail, performance and warmth of every amp model and effect.

Effects
From the DL4 stompbox to the Echo Farm plug-in, Line 6 effects have achieved cult status in top studios and stage rigs of discerning guitarists. With Spider Valve, Line 6 delivers a palette of top grade integrated effects - easily accessed and tweaked from the front panel using the SmartControl FX knobs. A choice of phaser, chorus or tremolo lets you tweak your tone from rich luscious modulations to dramatic orbital gyrations. From the swirling feedback of the sweep echo to the organic decay of the tape echo, Spider Valve delays provide an unmatched level of dimension and depth. The Spider Valve effects arsenal is complete with a dedicated reverb control – allowing you to dial in anything from subtle ambiences to cavernous spaces.

Amazing tube performance and flexibility

by Aaron from State College, PA

Music Background:
This amp is incredibly flexible. I bought it because of the wide range of distortion tones that it offers, but I have actually come to enjoy the clean tones and response far more. The Bogner designe... read more [+]d signal path and tube setup makes the amp very responsive to changes in dynamics due to pick angle and the amp responds well to changes of the volume pot. I haven't really found all of the effects to be that useful, but the reverb is very nice and the delay is high quality too. The only qualm I have with it is that the tube cage rattles a little bit at certain frequencies. However, this rattle is only apparent when you are playing it quietly; it is undetectable at any respectable volume. With this amp I have dialed in very good progressive metal tones (think Petrucci) as well as blues and soul (think Derek Trucks). You will not be disappointed with this amp. close [-]

The next evolution of Line 6!

Line 6 has done it once again. They have managed to make a great modeling amp, but they also brought tubes into the mix. I have heard several fellow musicians say that they or someone they know really... read more [+] hate Line 6 because they are supposedly too synthetic. When this amp came out, I think that they were all proven wrong about this company. I would like to see this technology in some of their other products, including the Vetta, the HD147, and maybe even the PODs. In fact, maybe they can get more tubes in the mix for more interesting results... close [-]

The most flexible amp on the market?

by Steve from Flora, IL
October 11, 2008
Music Background: Hobbyist
1st off, let me say it. I usually HATE LIne 6 products. I have tried all incarnations of the spider series as well as the new Spider Jam. The ONLY one I truly liked is this one. The TUBE Spider Valve.... read more [+] Its got guts, its got tone and its got AMAZING flexibility.

The reverb sounds deep, the effects are good and the sounds from clean to metal are something you just can not get from any other amp that I know of. This thing kills the spider III series and its all in the tubes, the cabinet and the speakers. I have owned this amp 3 times! 1st time I bought it, then decided I wanted a true Fender tube amp so I bought a Hot Rod. DIdnt care for it so I bought another Spider Valve. Well, after that I saw the Spider Jam and thought it would be cool to have an amp with built in jam tracks. YUK! the spider jam is TONELESS to my ears. Flat, tinny, ear piercing and horrible cleans.

Return the jam and once again get the Spider Valve. If you want volume, this has it. If you want serious flexibility, this one has it and throw away your pedals! If you want an amp that you can grow with you can sit with it all day and dial in amazing tones and sounds! Make sure you tweak the presets and you can get the best from this amp. For the money it can't be beat IMO. close [-]

One of the best overall values on the market today

by Mark McDowell from Central Florida

Music Background: Pro Guitarist working in a variety of applications
The best thing about this amp is that it is a convenient all-in-one rig with decent tone. It doesn't sound like a boutique amp, and the effects , particularly the chorus, leave a lot to be desired, b... read more [+]ut considering that I can take this amp and ONLY the footswitch that goes with it to a rehearsal or a small gig and not hate the tone says a lot. The tube power amp does provide a superior sound to most "modeling"/multieffects amps out there, and this is quite reasonably priced. I get a lot of use out of this, typically several times a week. I was considering a H&K switchblade, and while the tone may have been a little more to my liking, it costs about twice as much, and doesn't even include a tuner! Many of the presets are superior to the typical multi/modeling fare, with sounds from eras/songs/artists as well as genres so you can set up your palatte rather quickly if you don't like to spend time tweaking. Kudos to Line 6 on this one, I look fwd to rehearsals a lot more now! close [-]
