I'm reviewing the Spider 2, but there is minor differences. This amp is pretty tempermental. When you first turn it on, go to the insane channel, and tune to Drop C and be blown away.May 19, 2009 Music Background: Amateur Musician It's goo... read more [+]d distortion, but after turning the amp on and off a few times, the tone changes somehow. For example, I'll use my most crunchy tone. Drive-6 Bass/Low-10 Mid-4 Treble/High-7. It sounds good, but after turning the amp on and off a few times, say I want to adjust the mids a little. Almost as soon as I turn a knob, the sound gets muddy, and those modifications that I was trying to make killed the tone that I was currently using. That is annoying, and some of my friends think that I brag too much of the tone this amp has on the insane channel. Then after fooling with the setting for about a half hour my friend said "why does it take a half hour to find a good tone, especially on such a sterile sounding amp?" I agree. The amp is very, very loud. Line 6 made this proprietary, so only Line 6 pedals sound good through this amp. I have a Digitech Death Metal pedal, and while it is not the best, it sounds very good on a better amp such as a Marshall JCM 900 or even a Peavey Rage 108. This amp confuses me sometimes. It seems like the amp is a small child who can't decide what candy he wants. A tone can sound good for weeks, then you reset the amp accidentally and you cannot replicate the tone which you had. It's not a bad amp, but I'd recommend one of those Vox modeling tube amps, they sound great. close [-] Spider III 30 OK
