Built-in audio interface The M-Audio ProKeys Sono 88 is not just a high quality keyboard for rehearsals and performances - it's also an excellent recording tool. M-Audio added a 2-in/2-out USB audio interface, complete with an XLR connector for your microphone, RCA inputs for your iPod or other media player for backing tracks, as well as 1/4" stereo jacks for feeding your studio monitors. The built-in interface records at CD-quality 16-bit/44.1kHz resolution. With the Pro Keys Sono 88, all you need is a computer with an available USB connection, and you're ready to go! A range of instrument sounds including a Steinway grand At the heart of the M-Audio ProKeys Sono 88 is its stereo-sampled emulation of a Steinway grand piano - one of the most legendary, sought-after instrument sounds on the planet. Other onboard voices include a bright piano, electric piano, clav, strings, and choir. Plus, it's GM compatible with 128 onboard sounds as well as drums and prcussion. 88 semi-weighted, natural-feeling keys M-Audio made sure that the ProKeys Sono 88 would feel more natural beneath the hands of trained pianists by partially weighting the keys. The result is a response that more closely resembles that of an acoustic piano. Whether rehearsing, performing, or controlling virtual instruments within your favorite software program, the touch of the ProKeys Sono 88 makes it easy to compose and play your favorite pieces fluidly. Ableton Live Lite recording software Get started recording and composing straightaway with the ProKeys Sono 88: this keyboard includes a copy of easy-to-use recording software, Ableton Live Lite. Ableton Live is favored by musicians all over to use for its intuitive user interface and for its unique "scene" window that assists in developing and trying out new structures for your songs. Play it with or without a computer While the M-Audio ProKeys Sono 88 is an excellent tool for computer-based composition and the wide world of software-based instruments, it's just as at home as an excellent rehearsal tool or as a piano to take to the stage. It can be powered by a traditional 9V power supply and provides outputs for both headphone practice, as well as 1/4" outputs for monitors or your PA system. As a working musician whose gear is always on the go,this instrument does it for me. The Steinway emulation is pretty good, especially in the lower register. It has that distinctive Steinway "bite". Th... read more [+]e action reminds me of a vintage DX-7.(I have two.) It's the ease of transport that appeals to me;being lightweight enough to manage. I also own an M-Audio ES88 to trigger my rack-mount modules. Both of these keyboards are lighter than my DX alone. With a bit of EQ tweaking my Sono 88 sounds pretty ballsy. I like it. I would, however, like to see a hard copy user's manual. Sidebar;your customer service is superb, guys.Thank You! close [-]
March 1, 2011 Music Background: Pro Musician,Choral Accompanist,Educator Easily overlooked but highly worthy keyboard if you know what you're getting.

For a lightweight keyboard with limited (but sufficient) sounds, this M-Audio fills the bill. I used one when my Kurz SP-76 was in repair and frankly found it equally satisfying to play. It's also t... read more [+]he only weight that makes sense for USB-ing or MIDI-ing into a desktop computer (I'm not about to drag a 60-pound behemoth to my iMac and crowded study for that purpose). The only problem is that some dealers confuse it with the "other" M-Audio ProKeys model, which has fully weighted action, twice the number of sounds, along with splits and layering, and is a totally different animal. Sweetwater's description is accurate. close [-]

This really is a nice sounding keyboard. For many years guitarists have had the luxury of inexpensive light weight instruments. This keyboard is easy on the back. As far as the keys, you will never have two people agree on keyboard feel it is the nature of the beast. This isn't a fully weighted hammer action, but it is a very good semi-weighted action, just like many high end synths. Where this keyboard shines is recording, just connect to your USB connector and away you go. I don't use the ableton live software. I use Logic and it works great. For a song writer using a DAW or Band in a Box this keyboard is just the ticket. It also makes a very good live stage piano. Did I mention it is light? And the 2 headphones are great for giving my niece lessons without disturbing the household.September 3, 2008 Music Background: Semi-Pro musician My only complaints are they should have included a power supply in the unit, I hate wall warts! And a sustain pedal should have been included. Also 7 sounds is a bit thin the prokeys 88 has 14 with some nice pads. At over $400 they should have bumped it to at least 10. close [-] Also popular
