Incredibly detailed 25GB collection of Silk Road instruments
This ambitious collection from Quantum Leap encompasses a stunning range of instruments, found at the hearts of Chinese, Persian, and Indian cultures. All captured with an unwavering attention to detail, Quantum Leap recorded master musicians at EastWest Studios and Capitol Studios, using vintage Neumann micropohones through Neve consoles and Meitner converters. Quantum Leap Silk delivers an extensive set of articulations, legato scripting, alternate sampling, and phrasing, to give performances with Silk natural, smooth sound. What's more, for the first time ever in a Quantum Leap collection, you can adapt the instruments using dozens of micro-tunings, to adjust them to the key of your choice. Read on below to see the complete list of instruments included in EastWest Quantum Leap Silk.

Includes the custom PLAY interface
The Quantum Leap Silk includes the custom PLAY advanced sample engine, designed to give you deep access to the sounds within Silk. This 64-bit interface (with 32-bit support as well) lets you load many instruments and voices—up to the maximum your RAM will allow. It also offers built-in networking support, so you can load instruments on other machines and control them from your host computer—it's a professional, fully integrated solution for the most demanding production environments. And, for easy navigation, all of the instruments in the collection are listed in one browser. A favorites section lets you group the instruments you use most and you can even preview instruments in a simple column viewer. An articulations list lets you reference all expressions within the instruments—so there's no need to look up key-switches in charts. Other features include Legato detection, stereo handling, and a built-in microphone mixer, so you can control all microphone positions expressively. What's more, there's a built-in effects engine with a premium reverb section, featuring multiple impulse responses from concert halls and EastWest's premier studios. PLAY works as an AU, VST, and RTAS plug-in and can also work standalone on Mac and PC computers.

The next step in ethno libraries

This is simply a must-have for anyone who needs more than the standard "ethnic" library. While most libraries are a "jack of all trades", getting lots of decent sounding instruments (but mastering no... read more [+]ne), this library focuses on taking a few instruments, from three regions, and making them extremely expressive and playable. This is now the first library I open when I've got an ethnic cue to score.

If I've got any complaints, there were a few installation hoops to jump through to get the library up and running. I'm not too keen on dongles, but I guess they're a necessary evil in this market.

Once it's up, however, it fits right in with all the other "play" libraries. The convolution reverbs sound great and the auto-tuning goes a long way toward getting a really authentic sound out of the instrument.

Honestly, this and Storm Drum 2 are the best efforts from Eastwest yet. I can't wait to see what's coming next! close [-]

Our Customers Say...

Ninety-five percent of everything in this studio came from Sweetwater. My Sales Engineer is a lifesaver. I started working with him around 2005, talking to him about what my vision was for the studio. He was right there all the way.
