Plexi Tone in a 20-watt Head: The Marshall SV20H!

Ask any amp aficionado which amplifier led the rock revolution, and you’ll get a near-unanimous response: the Marshall 1959 Super Lead. The SV20H Studio Vintage takes that legendary tone and packs it into a 20-watt head. Plug in, and you’ll experience saturated blues grit and biting leads — the iconic Plexi tone. The Studio Vintage has plenty of player-friendly features on tap, such as four separate inputs, high- and low-sensitivity loudness controls, a 3-band EQ with Presence control, an effects loop, and a DI output. Worried about disturbing your neighbors? Don’t — the Studio Vintage’s power reduction circuit takes its wattage down to a bedroom-friendly five watts. If you want cranked Plexi tones from a compact, studio-sized amp, the Marshall SV20H Studio Vintage absolutely nails it.

1959 Plexi — the amplifier that led the rock revolution

The Marshall SV20H Studio Vintage is a low-watt version of Marshall’s 1959 Super Lead, a.k.a. the coveted Plexi. Townshend, Clapton, and Hendrix, to name a few, all played the 1959 Super Lead. This is the iconic amplifier that defined the sound of rock ’n’ roll for generations of guitar players, and it can be seen on countless stages of yesterday and today, including Woodstock. If you want the tone that inspired generations of iconic guitarists, plug into a Studio Vintage — it delivers true-to-life Plexi tone!

Loaded with all the player-friendly features you need

Consider yourself lucky, because the Marshall SV20H Studio Vintage sports features not found on the original 1959 Super Lead. An effects loop makes integrating your pedals and external processors a breeze. Attaining cranked tones at listenable volumes is a breeze thanks to a power reduction circuit. You also get a DI output for easy recording or routing to a PA. The guitarists at Sweetwater value the Studio Vintage’s modern flexibility almost as much as we appreciate its classic tone.

Marshall SV20H Studio Vintage Tube Head Features:

  • Packs the legendary tone of a 1959 Super Lead into a 20-watt head
  • Conjures up saturated blues grit and biting leads — the coveted Plexi sound
  • 4 separate inputs for you to blend your sound, along with high- and low-sensitivity loudness knobs
  • 3-band EQ with Presence control supplies flexible sound shaping
  • Effects loop makes integrating your effects pedals and processors easy
  • Power reduction circuit takes wattage down to a bedroom-friendly 5 watts

As good as it can get

I always used the Plexi to base my distorted sound in effect simulators, I never had a real one to try and couldn't afford it, until this amp arrived, it's even better than I imagined, it still cracks your ears from how loud it is that sounds but trust me it sounds great i wish this studio 20w amp was made 20 years ago

Loud and just killer

I have a Friedman Runt 50 and EVH 50. This amp to me is just as loud. Played a gig in 5 watts. It was mic but so so loud and the tone. Amp alone gets you that classic tone. Boost it with a SD1 and the tone is to die for. Reid Bright hooked me up. Best salesman at Sweetwater
Music background: Writing music from classic rock to neoclassical to heavy metal. Love it all. 24 years play guitar.

Marshall vintage 20 watt studio

Sounds great, OCD,tube screamer. Plug your strat into input 2 nice fat cleans volume for home on 2. Tried the little black box in the effects loop sounded like a Kazoo you don't need that and you really don't need to jump the inputs. Why would anybody want to plug into the high treble side maybe you would jump the inputs if You are playing really loud and needed a little more treble Once again thanks to Matthew and Sweetwater for the great service
Music background: Blues and rock

Awesome Memories!

I recently purchased the Marshall Studio Vintage SV20 head and cabinet along with a 59 Les Paul Reissue from Sweetwater and my sales engineer Ian McGhee. I am extremely happy with these purchases. Put together these bring back memories of the good old days for me. Nothing beats the sound of a Les Paul cranked up through a Marshall. Thanks to Ian McGhee, I have reached the goal in my life of owning this setup. I have purchased many things from Ian and he has been so cool with my nit picking. Thanks Ian for the great advice and for becoming a friend over the years.
Music background: Rookie

There are countless "British"-style guitar amplifiers out there, but take it from the lifelong guitarists and tone connoisseurs at Sweetwater, when it comes to Marshall tone, there's nothing like the real thing. We've played them all, from vintage JTM45s and the ultra-cool Plexi reissue to modern handmade masterpieces such as the JVM410. There isn't a model among them we can't recommend with total confidence, and that includes their more affordable models too, like MG, DSL, and Code series amps. Thanks to our tight relationship with Marshall, Sweetwater's always on the cutting edge of their latest designs, custom models, and limited-edition gems. If you want iconic tone from across the pond, you want Marshall, and your Sweetwater Sales Engineer will help you find the perfect one.
