Furman Power Strip Review

By Sweetwater Customer from CA on March 28, 2024

Furman Power Strips are great

A low noise tank

By Leonard Frykman from Gilberts, IL on November 10, 2023

I use this to run my pedalboard. I plug it into the front plug of my power conditioner.
This thing can survive getting hit by a train and reduces any noise from a typical outlet when you aren't using a power conditioner.

Good price, Great piece of gear.

By Arnold Lester from Athens, AL on November 10, 2023 Music Background: Alabama Shredneck.

Finally!!! I don't have to worry about unplugging my amps, pedal boards, etc. during the frequent thunderstorms here in Alabama. I've put off buying a surge protector for so long and finally bought one. Actually looked at the Stomp and Rock but 400 bucks for a surge protector was too much for me. This one by Furman fits the bill. I can leave my Temple Audio pedal board and my cooling fan I installed in my JCM600 plugged in and just turn them off via the switch on this unit. Build quality for what your paying for it is beyond anything you'll find on the shelf at Lowes or Wally World. I'm very happy with this buy, Thanks Nick Reedy for all the follow ups, sorry I couldn't answer your calls at work man. You Rock

Furman is worth it.

By Mark Fornwald from East Hampton, CT on August 18, 2023

I have a Furman rack unit. A couple decades old & still working. But not all venues have safe power & needed something for backline protection. My first 6 plug box has stood up to road use for years & bought 3 more. Never lost a single piece of anybody's gear plugged into these boxes. Outdoor shows in particular can be subject to ma nature sending you a wet surprise and a spilled drink can really mess things up.
You can rely on Furman to
Protect Your Gear!!!

It works!!!!

By Matt from Chicago on June 16, 2023 Music Background: DJ, Recording Artist

I own a project studio and I used this surge protector for my computer and hard drives. A few days ago the power went out. When the electric company was fixing the transformer that went out there were several overvoltages followed by brown outs. I got back in the studio today and my computer wouldn't power up. I thought man this is going to be expensive. Luckily I had an open outlet on an adjacent surge protector. I plugged my computer in and it powered up. Power protection is unthought of, I am glad I had the foresight to invest a little in protection. Thank you Furman you provide a quality product that does the job. Well Done!!!

Kills EMI

By Robert Malone from Arnold, MD on April 9, 2023 Music Background: Playing since 1964

I've been struggling with hum coming from my new Fender American VII 1975 Telecaster Deluxe (with humbuckers). Per Fender's recommendation, I took it my local Authorized Fender Repair center, and the luthier said nothing could be done, that the vintage CuNiFe pickup had inherent noise. So I was going to do the cavity shielding routine as shown on Youtube, but I figured before going thru that exercise, I took a chance and tried this Furman EMI/RFI power strip. The noise\hum is totally gone! I'm so glad this worked. I really didn't want to jack with modifying this new vintage guitar. I'm very surprised, and disappointed, that the Fender Repair center had no solution for me to try. Thank you Rob Kramer and Sweetwater.

Works great. Works for both an amp and pedal board. Draws and distributes all the power you will need. If you need a power strip, GET THIS.

A Reliable Piece Of Essential Gear

By Tbird from Virginia, USA on February 16, 2023 Music Background: Performing musician for over 42 years.

I currently own and use 6 Furman SS-6B power strips and will be needing more. I play in 2 three piece bands. I use them to protect my gear at both rehearsal rooms and I carry them along with a rack mounted Furman power conditioner in my show sound rig which serves both bands.
All my Furman products are well constructed and stand up to the rigors of gigging. Each piece realiably does just what I need it to do.
The price of the Furman SS-6B is money WELL spent!

Great product

Great product at a fantastic price!

By Scott Banghart from Redding, CA on January 13, 2023

I have purchased 3 of the Furman SS-6B, 6-outlet surge suppressor strips. Our home has a few wiring issues that creates noise through the various amps in the house that makes them almost unusable. To rectify this problem, I bought my first Furman and once I plugged in the amp to the strip, all the noise just went away. Collectively I have one Furman for the primary amp (Fender Twin Reverb Neo), one for the bass amp (Fender Rumble 500) that is a distance away, and a third Furman that is used for another tube amp head (Bugera T50 Infinium 50-watt) that is in another room. The Furman is a great and necessary addition to any amp. In my opinion, the Furman it is a well built and functional product at a price that is excellent. Recommend the Furman surge suppressor strip to anyone.

Great Surge Protection Strip

Furman

By J on August 17, 2022

I have 5 of these power supplies and what makes them stand out verses a cheap power strip is the fat cord that is plenty lengthy and the heavy construction of the product!!

Great little surge suppressor with EMI/RFI protection

By Keith from Massachusetts on August 7, 2022 Music Background: Learning

The Furman SS-6B 6-outlet Surge Suppressor Strip is well built and seems to function very well. I use one for my desktop to plug my studio monitors/speakers into (and a tube microphone) and a separate one to plug my tube guitar combo amp into. They work great and are, of course, easy to use. Great purchase.

By Matthew McClenning from Chicago South-lands on June 3, 2022 Music Background: Weekend worship player/tech engineer

I ordered four of these surge suppressors for our stage and the tech booth computer at the church I attend. Low Level Noise has always been apart of our service. With some new DI boxes and these Furman SS-6B Surge Suppressor Strips, the last of what low level noise we had is gone. These things just work. People have complained about the cord length in other reviews but I find it an advantage for a stage that has only a few electrical outlets.

By Mason Patton from Bradford, Ohio on February 10, 2022 Music Background: been playin' way too long

I've always thought my amp buzz was because it was a tube amp - nature of the BEAST. But no, it's my house's power and wiring. Helped silence my pedal board, too!
Wish I'd bought the discounted buy-2-bundle. I'm gonna want another when I start recording.

Works Great!

A Totally Legitimate Surprise

By Mason Patton from Bradford, OH on January 20, 2022 Music Background: Close to 40 years of messin' 'round

It's very rare that I am surprised this much by what should be a mundane item. I plugged both my tube amps and my pedal power units into the Furman and then plugged it into the wall, flicked the switch and waited for the obnoxious 60-cycle hum and the loud POP of the pedals powering up all at once. Nothing. I heard nothing. No popping, no humming, no ground noise. Why didn't I buy one of these sooner? Glad I made the purchase before I started recording.

Actually Does Reduce Noise

By Robert Malone from Arnold, MD on January 5, 2022

I bought this power strip after researching reviews that it tamed down noise that was being induced in a guitar and amp.
In my case, I have a brand new Les Paul Studio that had a very slight hum/buzz playing through a Blues Junior IV amp.
When switching to the coil tap function in either the Bass or Treble pickup, the noise\hum was so horrible, I wasn't even bothering trying out the coil tap function on the guitar. I wanted to try this power strip to determine if the Les Paul had some issue or if it was just a dirty source power. I was skeptical, because I have a Tele Pro II with noiseless pickups, a Strat Ultra, and a 2002 Les Paul Studio (no coil tap function) which exhibit no noise at all using the same amp and setup.
After hooking my stuff up to the Furman, lo and behold, the noise was effectively gone. That made me happy that there was nothing wrong with the guitar. However, that being said, now, when the coil tap is engaged, and doesn't produce that horrible hum, I can hear the natural sound\tone of the coil tapped pickups. IMO, the sound\tone is horrible, so I'll never use the Tap function. Bottom line, The Furman works as advertised.

What a difference a little bit of extra $ spent on a power strip can make!

By Michael Pananos from Sandy, UT on December 27, 2021 Music Background: Blues, Rock, Metal

I've been using my Strat a lot more lately, and with that comes that wonderful 60 cycle hum. I have a "HumX" that I've been plugging a power strip into and it just doesn't really reduce noise at all. I purchased 2 of these and holy crap, what a difference! Using one in the jam room and have one in my gig bag for shows - I haven't used it at a show yet - will be playing on NYE this year, but I'm confident that the results will be the same as in my jam room.

Right now, for $, you can't beat the price/performance value. The only weakness I can see is that all of the plugs face the same direction - I would have preferred that each side face opposite because of the wall-warts. However, this was easily solved - wall warts on one side, regular plugs on the other.

I highly recommend buying this and saving yourself some grief over noise.

Furman 6 outlet surge Suppressor Strip

By Joseph Strong from Houston, TX on August 3, 2021

These are rugged, well built, metal power strips with noise filters not found on normal power strips. The 15' cord is a nice feature eliminating the need for an extension cord in most situations. I would recommend Furman power strips for any audio video equipment.

By Aaron L from Gig Harbor, WA on March 2, 2021 Music Background: 30 years of making noise.

This device is built to last, rugged AF and the 15' cable is perfect for keeping it by my bedside for phones, electronics, cpap machine etc. When I'm ready to play, I just move the unit across the room and use it for an amp, a few pedals or a synth. It reduces hum & buzz audibly, plus I know that my gear is safe cuz I'm not using a budget hardware store strip. I've seen Furman strips take a beating in some grimy basement show environs and clubs with questionable electrical wiring over the years. Solid roadworthy construction! This beast is even perfect for your tv/entertainment setup. It's bulky but should last many years. Many thanks to my sales guy Brian Loney for being available to answer questions and for keeping me in the loop with preorders & wishlist items. Sweetwater must also have the best warehouse/shipping team in the game because stuff arrives super fast and is immaculately packed to keep my gear safe in transit. I won't buy gear anywhere else.

Silence is golden!

When I got enthusiastic enough (Guitar Addict!) to purchase my 1st tube amp (Peavy30), I loved the tone compared to my solid state amps BUT where was that annoying sound coming from??? Turns out it was the box fan on the other side of our place. Plugged one of these in and problem fixed. Now ANYTHING that plays music or TV even lives by this formula: Wall > Furman > Equipment.

While this suppressor strip is nothing magic, the fact it has a 15' cord is a huge plus which is twice the length of most strips from the hardware stores. Will it suppress a surge? Who knows, but the long cord and metal construction makes it great power strip but gigging performers.

Quiet!

By Jon from York on August 5, 2020 Music Background: Guitar player/ producer

This thing is great as it's the cheapest way to eliminate noise- and it's handy for gigs to have a strip with a long cord. I got one for my recording pedal board and amp, and it was so great I bought another to run my apollo and rack gear. With both my noise went from acceptable but noticable to almost vanished- my recording setup is now almost dead silent, even when running outboard preamps and comps. It's amazing.

I purchased one of these Furman units about a year ago for my guitar equipment and i noticed a big improvement on my sound. i got rid of humming. plus i feel more safe connecting multiple appliances on these units.
This is my second purchase of these units, but this time for a different purpose. Not guitar related but for other appliances and places where i need to run multiple things.I just don't trust those cheap plastic power strips to fill them up to the hilt.
If you are one of those persons that likes running multiple electronic appliances, this unit is worth it every cent of it. and gives a peace of mind. don't take any chances with cheap plastic power strips.

I don't know how I've been living my life without these

By Marc from Pennsylvania on February 7, 2020 Music Background: Guitarist for 15+ years, multi-instrumentalist, and novice producer

I've been a musician for a long time, but must have been living under a rock until now because I just found out about power conditioning very recently. I got two of these little guys and noticed and immediate improvement in my guitar's signal and overall noise reduction. Some of my instruments are on the lower cost spectrum so the electronics aren't anything to write home about, but these strips make everything sound much cleaner on my cheap guitars and more high end ones too. My single coils stay quiet, that blows my mind. I live in out in the sticks where the grid is a little funky and far less stable, but these do the trick to make sure everything is sounding the way it was intended and prevents any damage to the internal components of my maps and effects. HIGHLY recommend these, and for the cost why not? Talk to Jared Kalish, the man is a total pro and super knowledgeable on everything. Sweetwater over everyone else hands down!

Bulletproof, reduces noise

By Matt W. from PA, USA on January 15, 2020

I'm using this with a home rig--2 tube amps running in stereo along with a generous pedalboard. The previous surge protector I was using was causing a buzzing to occasionally come through the amp, which required me to jiggle the chords to get it to stop. If I tried to plug anything else into the strip, more noise came through. The Furman SS-6B has ended all of that hassle. It's really well-built, and all of the excess noise is gone. If I plug my laptop into it while the amps are running, no problems. It's strange to get excited about a surge protector, but this relatively small investment is helping me protect and enjoy the rest of my gear.

Protection for your Investments

By Lane Barrett from Chicago on January 10, 2020 Music Background: Professional Recording Artist

I’ve always put surge protection in line with my audio gear. I purchased the Furman SS-6B-6 to run direct before my guitar pedal board and amps and I could hear the immediate difference in my line. Although I run multiple amp setups on stage and in the studio, every thing I value is given that extra precaution and piece of mind when I know my investment had this uncompromising and added layer of power and protection.
Thanks Max at Sweetwater for your professional and honest advice in helping me make the right decision on this piece of gear. Happy New Year!!!

GOOD CLEAN POWER MAKES A GREAT PERFORMANCE BETTER.

By Douglas Ostarch from New York on December 19, 2019 Music Background: Over 30 years in the Audio field from ENG, Corporate Installations, FOH/Touring and House

Great product as Furman has a long history of excellent line conditioners. I purchased the bundle that packs twice the punch with a nice savings for both.

Always need power downstage so this is the solution to doing it neatly and clean up the stage floor to be safe. 15ft. Cord allows great flexibility for safe placement out of harm's way.
Six outlets are plenty for most keyboards and mixers, guitars and pedals, personal monitors and in ears, iPads and smart devices.
You also get Furman's basic line conditioning in a neat little bundle that provides clean power to today's digital devices. This is a must as a FOH engineer with multiple acts or a musician at multiple venues.
Good clean power makes a great performance better just as hums and buzzes makes all your talent forgettable.

Thank you Chris Arnold for being my Go To Guy at Sweetwater.

Surprise plus with this power brick!

By Music Therapy Laz from SF Bay Area, California on September 23, 2019 Music Background: Multi-instrumentalist, home studio, pro-studio, musician, producer.

I've had this for over a year and have used Furman power conditioners (rack type) for years...and this one does the job as you'd expect...but a surprise bonus for me is it's brick-like layout!

I purchased this for use with my guitar effects pedals and amp for jams outside of my studio, so I needed a reliable source suppressing power source, something I could toss into a backpack or pedal gig bag....but having Furman reliability is not the only plus here, there's a bonus!

Like many tone chasers, I'm always experimenting with my sound and often swtch up my effects pedals, exploring the next sonic sound-scape...however, my poorer supply doesn't always have the needed voltage, so I often need to use the provided power supplies that come with the pedals...often with a wall warts at the end that take up a lot of space on a standard outlet stripe.

The bonus is the layout of thiis power "brick" that lets you fit 4 off the ends vs just one off the end of a typical power strip. Pro rack style power conditioners have wide spaced outlets on them for this reason, but they're not convenient to use on the floor next to your pedal board, not to mention not nearly as robust as this "tank" of a power supply! It's almost a of this was made for guitarists and their pedal boards!

I highly recommend this over any power strip, any day, for just the reliability of Furman power conditioners, but that unexpected "bonus" has come in handy on many occasions! Buy one...you won't be sorry!

I have 2 amps (marshall) and (roland) hooked up through a Boss Me-80 processor effects.
And BOY. It brought a difference.
First of all i found out what was causing humming in my rig was the lack of quality power strips
But also i found out that my Boss Me 80 power supply is a cheap one. and even if it is connected on the "Furman" i still get that annoying humming sound.
But after i plug in directly through my marshall, i notice no humming comes at all.
so yes, that's how i came to the conclusion that my main problems were my old power strip connector.
And so it is a cheap power supply for my Boss Me 80.
How i came to the conclusion my old power strip was part of the problem. ?
Easy. If i connect the old power strip back directly into the marshall amp i get the humming.
Once i put the furman on in the same amp. that's where i see the difference.

It is really worth investing in this unit.

Got Protection?

By Sweetwater Customer on June 17, 2019

I purchased the Furman SS-6B 6-Outlet to protect my new Fender Acoustic 200 Amp and it works just as described. I really like the fact that it has such a long cord. It's made of super strong materials and seems bullet proof. This is a must have piece of equipment/insurance to protect your gear. Why chance your gear from getting fried when you can protect them ...a no brainer.

Great Value!!!

By Ara Ashjian from Henderson, NV on May 28, 2019 Music Background: Violin 15 years, Guitar 1 year

This power Strip is great for me because of the 15' power cord. I can plug it in across the room and bring it to my amp and pedals. Furman is a great company with a great reputation. I'd recommend this strip to anyone.

It’s True!

By Sam from Praireville LA on May 13, 2019

Made this purchase to have a quality power strip but it absolutely made my tube amp nearly silent when idle. I guess the dirty power issue is real.

Its sturdy, reliable and just over all well worth the money. I had a feedback loop from plugging in all over the place. Now all of our PA is from a single, noise cancelling source.

Tanks

The construction and robustness of this power strip is something to ease your mind when plugging in expensive equipment. When pushing or pulling plugs in and out of the sockets, it doesn't feel like your average rinky-dinky power strip that you picked up at your local department store. No, this thing has great ratings for a reason.

Furman SS-6B Power Strip

The Furman power strip is the first line of defense for all of my Music Gear. It is the main power source for my pedal board power supplies, my second amplifier, and then my main one. They all work together as a unit, thanks to Furman.

My fourth unit

Heavy duty and very useful. I now have 3 of these Power Strips that I use as sound operator for a concert venue. My wife decided she needed one at home so I recently purchased my 4th unit to keep 3 at hand for work. I have used these units for 4 or 5 years now and have not have any difficulty with them.

Fine Gear!

By Marc Epstein from Tonto Basin, AZ on July 15, 2018

This power unit is well built. I'm using it to protect not only a few of my Studio gear, but as a surprise..it is filtering the power for my WW2 Army Signal Corp. Shortwave receiver!
It really made a huge difference in clearing up all the noise sources in my home!
Also, the cord is nice and L-o-n-g! -- and very pliable. I dislike cords that are thick and hard to bend.
This cord is soft enough and yet strong enough to bend around furniture and objects in my room! Sweet!
Simply a great product at a nice price!

Highly suggest

Great Furman SS-6B Power Strip

By Eric Peterson from Leland, NC on March 29, 2018

It's hard to get really excited about a power strip, but this one does its job. It is built to last.
The 15' long power cable is a great feature, especially well-suited to powered-speaker PAs.
I have purchased multiple SS-6Bs, using them for my home studio, home audio & performance.
Highly Recommended.
BTW, Sweetwater's Nitish Kulkarni (x3028) rocks! He has been very attentive, has been great with advice, options & follow-up with all of my purchases.

Over looked, but VITAL to your sound!

By Jonathan from Indiana on February 13, 2018 Music Background: Gigging guitar player in a band. Guitar teacher.

I bought 2 of these and a Voodoo labs pedal power plus 2. I run a Mesa Dual Rectifier thru a matching 4x12. I play at high volume with a fairly extensive pedal board. The combination of a high gain amplifier with a bunch of pedals is a recipe for noise. Both from the power source and interference. These power strips stop RFI and EMI interference so my power source is clean, and the Voodoo labs pedal power plus 2 keeps my pedal board dead quiet with isolated power. No matter where I play, or how loud things get, my whole rig stays quiet with ZERO buzz, hum, or electrical interference of any kind. The difference was shocking to me, I used to use run of the mill power strips from local stores. These Furmans are built to industrial standards. The cords are super thick and long, and the housings are metal. If you have invested a large amount of money into your equipment and sound, make sure you protect it with a clean power source. Buy one! They are worth their weight in gold!

An essential purchase

By Robert from Carson on January 6, 2018 Music Background: guitarist

To start, I live in a house where the electrical sucks, not to mention my room is next to a washer/ dryer that make the electrical interference much worse when I decide to jam. I have a mesa boogie triple crown and stilleto trident that sound great but I get major feedback I my room. I have a tc electronics sentry noise gate that helps but I still hear feedback. Come in, the furman ss-6b. It reduced the feedback on its own with little help from the noise gate. The feedback is still present but man, what help this power strip is. I'm not one to typically get stuff like this but lesson learned; the small things make a difference. Worth every penny!

Furman SS-6B Power Strip - Clarification

By Chris from MD on August 16, 2017

What this does it does well; it gets you power where you need to get it be it at home, on the stage or in the studio thanks to the 15 foot heavy duty cable. I currently have two and will be buying more in the future when the need arises.

Many reviews say this is a power conditioner; it is not a true power conditioner. It is a heavy duty power strip with electromagnetic interference (EMI)/radio frequency (RF) filter(s) to reduce/eliminate electrically induced noise generated by lights, motors, etc., etc. A power conditioner will have these types of filters in addition to more advanced features and a higher price tag.

Furman does make power conditioners that are within the average consumers budget and needs. Do your research to find the unit that will fit both parameters. Sweetwater does a fine job giving you the basic information but to get the facts go to the website. There are other power conditioner manufacturers that are very budget friendly but will not provide the protection that Furman is known for. Furman has been in business for 40 plus years and there is a reason for that. When exploring another companies products remember you get what you pay for.

Key Part of Your Rig

By Moose on January 23, 2016 Music Background: Musician/Songwriter/Engineer

I first bought one of these with much skepticism. Was recording in a room that had 60hz cycle issues and frequent RF noise. Was so pleased I use them on everything now; my current studio, stage guitar rig, computer equipment and all sound gear. They have done the job and held up (my first is at least 10 years old and still in use). In addition, I began using UPS power back up units between these and the power source and all of our amplification is dead quiet, including my 3 tube amp guitar rig, the bassist's Ampeg monster, our 16K+ watt FOH system and mixing/mastering studio. Sure, they cost a bit more than some (and less than others) - but are built to last and do the job. Value.

Great little power strip

By M from W on December 25, 2015

These are great little power strips and do the job for a reasonable price. Just bought a couple more, but I have had one for years and never had any issues with it. I would not put thousands of dollars of rack gear into this, as a heavier duty power conditioner is more appropriate for that. But for basics in office or studio, these are great. And for my new under pedal board application seems so far to be great for powering some wall wart pedals and some power bricks. Just make sure the plugs you have will fit in this configuration. It is compact, which is great, but you can't expect to jam 6 wall warts in. But if you have appropriately sized plugs for it, it works great without taking up a lot of space.

A Perfect Product

By Robert Inman from Columbus, OH on February 18, 2014 Music Background: Hobbyist

OK...it's a power supply! However, having already two of these I just had my third and fourth shipped to me from Sweetwater today and these are the greatest things. The 15 foot heavy duty cord would be enough of a reason but Furman's track record on eliminating EMI/RFI in their rack power conditioners make this a no-brainer solution. Pretty great insurance when you have synths and studio gear that really needs reliable and clean power. Built like a tank, cannot imagine anything going awry with these in the long haul and added more because you can take the load off circuits in your studio room by simply running from another circuit. Free shipping and really fair price--I keep coming back to Sweetwater for these essentials.

I bought one of these for my first DJ setup... about 12 years ago. I have been a Furman fan ever since. Very solid construction. It has been dropped, banged off of walls, dropped, stepped on and dropped. I thought I broke it once when I tripped over it, but all I did was hit the power switch. Did I mention that I've dropped it? I currently have the Furman Merit M-8x² in my rack and was going to use the SS-6B for my new turntables and mixer. However, I discovered that SOMEBODY (my daughter) spilled paint all over it. It still works 100%, but the paint is a bit of an eyesore. The new one is coming out of her allowance lol.

By Cave from Baton Rouge, LA on July 27, 2012 Music Background: Gigging musician, recording/mix engineering

More then a great surge protector - you should note the EMI and RFI noise reduction. This isn't much different then what you would find in the Merit series of power conditioners. I bought one for a large guitar rig that already has some clean power supplies.

...and I was blown away. My rehearsal space has AWFUL wiring. All of the power is coming through power conditioners as it is, and it's still not enough. After I added the SS-6B, the noise on my rig cleared up. I wasn't expecting that at all. I suppose it was JUST enough filtering on top of the other power conditioners to clean it up. Either that, or all of our other surge protectors suck. Either way, why wouldn't you trust it?

Solid Power Drops!

By Michael Pescetto from CHICAGO, IL on March 3, 2023 Music Background: Drummer & Audio Engineer

These things are VERY sturdy. I had some plastic power strips / surge protectors that just simply wouldn't handle being lugged to multiple shows. These are great and have 15' cords, which means I can put the PA speakers more or less where I want and help make sure they're not going to get messed up. it's a good investment. Plus musicians have a good power drop that will hopefully reduce some of the hum at various locations.

A Little Bit More Can Go A Long Way. Gets The Job Done Cleanly~

By Martin Henry~ from Syracuse, NY on May 25, 2022 Music Background: Founder & Producing Artist @ fastraxPro Audio Recording

This is my second purchase of the Furman SS-6B 6-outlet Surge Suppressor Strip since around 2010 through SW. It's design build has not changed since that period (which should assure anyone that Furman is always a good way to go). Only this time, I went with SW's x 2 Bundle Pack for $/US for a new Minimal DAW Studio I'm almost finished building. There's a lot to say about studio power strips in general from me. Running "Clean Power", evenly distributed in any Studio Recording Environment, is essential. The Furman SS-6B 6-outlet Surge Suppressor Strip from SW will deliver that quite nicely for anyone not running Clean Power right now. You may also look into Furman's M-8x2 + SS-6B Bundle (SW Item ID: M8x2SS6BPk) that comes with an 8-outlet Rack Mountable Power Conditioner and 6-outlet Power Block Package.

Whatever one decides to choose and do, there are (2) very important electrical specs to always remember when purchasing a Pro Power strip set up of any kind as follows:

#1.

CHOOSE JOULES RATINGS BETWEEN 1000 to 2000:

Q:

What does a "Joules Rating" mean?

A:

(Regarding- Surge Protection) Basically, the joule rating is an indication of the amount of energy that can be absorbed by the surge protector before it fails. The protection provided is higher when the number of joules rating is high. The value and type of the equipment needing protection serve as bases to determining the Joule rating needed. Here are some examples of Joules per second to Watts:

> 1 Joules per second = 1 Watts
> 9 Joules per second = 9 Watts
> 10 Joules per second = 10 Watts
> 1000 Joules per second = 1000 Watts
> 2500 Joules per second = 2500 Watts
> 1000000 Joules per second = 1000000 Watts

So, in "layman's terms"; you'll be covered with the Furman SS-6B 6-outlet Surge Suppressor Strip regarding this very important matter. Because unexpected Lightning Strikes and Grid Power outages CAN and WILL happen at anytime. A higher Joule rating is the best indicator of greater protection. If you choose a surge protector with a Joule rating (at the very least) in the 200 to 400 range, that (might) be considered adequate. But I don't advise settling for that as a minimal option within any DAW Studio Recording Environment. Sensitive or costly equipment, such as computers, displays and audio/video equipment, warrants a Joule rating of at least 1000.

In my Studio, we bench tested (1) Furman SS-6B 6-outlet Surge Suppressor Strip and are well satisfied with test results known as a "Signal Pulse Energy Dissipation Read" of 540 Joules for (1) Furman Power Strip x 6 outlet unit. So, by going with SW's x2 Bundle Pack for $/US, you'll be spreading the overall Joules rating of 540, per each power strip, to 1,080 Joules using a second Furman Power Strip (provided the two of them are plugged separately into 3-prong grounded wall outlets NOTE: See my included photo of this).

#2.

PURCHASE AND INSTALL THE BEST UPS UNIT YOU CAN AFFORD (Uninterrupted-Power-Supply) TO PLUG YOUR SS-6B 6-outlet Surge Suppressor Strip(s) IN

Also known as a "battery backup", provides backup power when your regular power source fails or voltage drops to an unacceptable level. What I mentioned above regarding Joules ratings did not factor in this "extremely important unit" yet. Not having one is like not having a reliable External 1 to 2TB HD or SSD Drive for file backups on your DAW Computer. A UPS is NOT to be confused as a continuous source of battery power (so you can keep on working during a power outage). That's not what it's designed for to do. A UPS only allows for the safe, orderly shutdown of a computer and connected equipment. Including landline charge base phone units, Routers, Internet Modems, Audio Interfaces, Studio Monitor Speakers, electronic instruments, etc. The size and design of a UPS determines how long it will supply power. They're to be kept on continuously so that the internal back up battery is always charged and ready to go. These batteries usually rate at 750VA/450W/120V for Battery Backup and last approximately 5-years (until swapped out for a new one). But any of them will give you at least a few minutes, or more, to SAVE and shutdown your work safely.

FYI: I use a variety of UPS Units from another Manufacturer I've been very satisfied with for many years. However, SW also offers a fine line of UPS units, as well, at various Price Point Ranges. Type Search "Battery Back Up" above (without quotation marks) to learn more about them. Then choose from there which ones will work best for you and your budget:

As always, talk with your SW Sales Engineer for more information and further guidance about any further questions regarding the things I posted in this Review.

Happy Hunting!

Eliminated my amplifier hum.

By Mike from SC on July 19, 2021

I own a Fender Super Champ x2 Vintage Modified Tube Amp with 10" Ragin Cajun speaker. I have several small amps but use this one most of the time. Whenever I turned it on or off, I heard a slight popping noise; while on, it made a hum. It was not a very loud hum, but if you were within 10 feet of it you could hear it. It was not from loose tubes - I checked those right away. Cleaned them and re-seated them. Nope, it was just coming from the amp itself. So I ordered this item hoping it might make that hum go away. Some reviewers suggested it worked for them. So, I plugged my amp into it, plugged it into the wall, and turned on my amp. No pop. No noise at all. I turned the volume and gain knobs to 10 - still no noise at all. Dead quiet. I then turned the amp off. No pop. YMMV depending on the electrical source you are using, but my house was built in 1986 which is fairly recent vintage so should have had good electricity. It was good, but not good enough. This surge protector with filters built in made it 'good enough'. No noise is good noise. -Mike

Quality

By Nate from MT on February 12, 2021

So, I live in an older ranch style house with what seems to be uneven power out of the wall outlets. I was hoping this unit was going to take the crackling out of my amp sound but it did not. That doesn't mean that it's not a great unit. My sales engineer warned me which is why I got the combo with furmanns actual power conditioning unit also, but it unfortunately it wasn't in stock and is still on back order. I take my rig to another house for practice on the weekends and everything sounds great so I know it's the power at my house causing the crackling. This unit is built like a tank though and at the price is a great addition to the utility gear collection. Super long power cable provides versatility and will be great for gigs I'm sure. I still think this is a good place to start troubleshooting unwanted noise as I've seen some reviews say that this unit did the trick. I'm hoping the power conditioner solves my problem but I'm still glad I bought this unit...

Great gear

By D Short from Indianapolis on October 3, 2019

It's a fabulous well built piece of equipment. Unfortunately it didn't isolate the line noise that I'm getting in my stereo that's in my workshop. I was hopeful that this would take care of my problem. It's my fault and I will have to find the right piece of equipment.

Furman SS 6B 6-Outlet Pro Surge

By Rick from Winter Park, Colorado on August 17, 2019

The SS-6B 6 Pro Surge Suppressor Block preforms well. I have 4 of these units and I impressed with how these units get the job done. These Furman Pr Surge Suppressors are mainly used in a studio capacity and light band shows performances. I also have other Furman conditioners, surge protectors, and I"m pleased with Furman products.
I"ve rently purchased the new D"Addario Tour Grade Power Base surge protector, so far I"m impressed with this little unit many features. I would recommend that you checkout both units Furman"s and D"Adario"s before purchasing.

Essential For Studio and Live Gigs

These are so useful,I have purchased 4 in last 2 yrs. Quality build, nice long cord.

Better than I hoped

By GCH from Washing D.C. area on June 8, 2018 Music Background: Gigging musicians

We've had all kinds of crackling, humming, buzzing, and hissing in our guitar/bass cabinets, monitors and mains on gigs and at rehearsal. One of the worst places was our practice space with florescent lighting. Got a couple of these and the noise literally disappeared.

Pluses for the SS-68 are that it has a STEEL chases and a 15' power cord (I hate having to daisy chain extension to plug is a surge protector).

Deduct 1/2 star because the outlets themselves look to be made of Bakelite. I'm sure they're not, but they are the right color for it, and the stuff is brittle like Bakelite. The first night we used them our guitar player unplugged his amp roughly, and chipped the plastic out of the bottom of the ground receptical - no loss of function, but the one weak link in an otherwise stellar system.

Essential Tool For Every Musician

We just purchased a 4th one, seems like there is never enough "clean" sources of power for live gigs, home studio, etc. Doesn't replace the rack mounted power conditioner, although it will do in a pinch. But for everything else...amps,lights,workstations, this is a must have. The 15' cord is a big plus, also.

By JET from USA on July 30, 2016 Music Background: Musician, Singer, Songwriter, Recording Artist

This is my fav all around power strip. They last for years! The switches are of great quality. The cords are heavy and of a generous length. I have them in my studio and all over the house. One time I clipped a guitar string and it dropped straight into an outlet. It smoked and sparked. Obviously the one outlet was hosed. However, other five were tested safe and still work. I use them for my PC's and they do not create hum. The only thing I found was that the case edge is very sharp on the bottom. It's a drag to get cut out on a gig. Price has risen but, I still pay. They work great!

DIY Project

By Fly by Light from Atlanta on December 4, 2015 Music Background: Busy part-time musician (keys, bass, guitar)

In recent years I've invested more in gear to reduce background noise and hum. It makes gig setup faster and less stressful, plus there s nothing that makes you sound like a garage band more than noisy equipment. This is one of my latest successful purchases. I bought a shelf at Ikea (2 for $10), painted it black, glued Velcro on it, screwed on some rubber feet, attached this and have a great little pedal board. I'm tempted to buy another one of these just so that other shelf doesn't go to waste. This makes a fine gift for a musician because it is very high quality, the price (especially now, on sale) and you can never have too many of them.

WORKS GREAT- I RUN MULTIPLE TUBE AMPS AND A ONE SPOT FROM THIS AND EVERYTHING DOES SEEM TO BE A BIT MORE QUIET. ALSO VERY HEAVY DUTY BUILD- DEFINITELY LOOKS LIKE IT WOULD HOLD UP ON STAGE WELL

Kiss your frustrations good-bye!

By MOTIF8TOR from Osceola, IN on August 2, 2014 Music Background: Hobbyist, Student, Amateur Musician (drums, keyboards, vocals)

Just added some Furman SS-6B Power Blocks to the stage for my church's worship band. In order to reduce stage volume, we had recently switched to in-ear monitors and now have all of the instruments running thru linear power boosters, to direct-boxes and then directly to the snake (with no guitar amps on the stage) . Since doing so, I've noticed excessive static and white noise in the monitors. The noise had existed before, but on a much smaller scale prior to making the switch to reduce stage volume. Last weekend, I plugged every electrical cord being used by the band into some Furman SS-6B strips hoping it would make a difference due to the SS-6B's claims of EMI/RFI noise reduction. WOW!!! It not only reduced the noise - it's practically NON-EXISTANT! I have never heard our sound system so clean in the nearly 16 years I've been drumming with this worship band. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

*(Only reason I did not give this product a perfect rating is due to the fact hat both rows of outlets face the same direction, which makes it challenging to utilize all 6 of the outlets if you have more than 3 transformer-style plugs to plug into 1 strip.)

Quality unit

By Steve from Southeastern US on September 14, 2012 Music Background: avid student

It would be hard to generate a long review for a power strip, but this is one quality unit so I thought a few words to prospective buyers would be helpful.
First off, I have experienced absolutely no electrical noise, even running five or six pedals (some high gain).
Other than that, there is ample room around each socket for fat plugs, and the cord is both super long, and of high quality.
Actually, the entire unit seems very well built. I was definitely satisfied with the purchase.

Solid performer

By Sweetwater Customer on October 1, 2019

Solid construction, handy cord length, and quiet operation. I wish the outlets were about ½" further apart though so I could plug in my three Electro-Harmonix bricks side by side. Instead, I have to plug in two on one side, and one on the other. Not a deal-breaker now, but if I get another brick I"ll need to buy a separate power supply to replace those, and at considerable extra cost.

Great for live!

By Josh from Chicago on December 18, 2018 Music Background: Live Sound

By JohnBoy from Central Coast on March 21, 2018 Music Background: Producer, tech head

I like the extra long, heavy duty cord. I have a few rack mount Furman power conditioners, so I trust their product. Glaring design problem on this power strip, which has been previously pointed out, is that all the ground jaks on the outlets are pointing the same way, effectively preventing you from plugging into all 6 outlets at same time. Think wall warts with their output cords all pointing the same way....If outlets on this power strip had ground jack pointing away from center of strip, this would be a winner!

I needed a ruggedly built power strip for use at home and on the road. This one had good reviews, and I have never been disappointed with Furman products in the past, so I bought one. The price was quite reasonable for the quality received, in my opinion.

The power strip is solidly built and accommodates 4 transformer warts adequately, but you won't get 6 onto it, also, the long power cord is a very nice feature.

This item does what it is designed to do, and so far, appears to be of quality construction and durability, as have been all the Furman products I have previously purchased.

I'll likely buy another as the need arises.

I got this a few weeks ago and had a chance to use it playing out. Now this is only my second real gig but the first one I didn't have this power strip and there was a lot of dirty power noise. At the most recent, using the Furman SS-6B there was almost no noise. Understandably there could have been great differences between the wiring at the two joints but both were just bars. I have noticed a good drop in noise at home as well. I think this thing is a good deal for the money though I hope I never have to test the power surge quality. As always dealing with Sweetwater was a pleasure of course. Thanks, Jonathan.

solid, not magical

By Sweetwater Customer on March 6, 2016

the bad: still get some hum in my rig- lots of pedals, many boosts/overdrives. only six outlets (most others have eight), and they all face the same way, which is annoying if you have to accommodate wall warts or awkward sized plugs.

the good: well build, feels pretty sturdy. 15' sure comes in handy sometimes. ive had mine for 6 months now and they seem safe and dependable.

if you need something solid and reliable at a decent price, these aren't a bad choice. just keep the outlet situation in mind and don't ask it to erase your noise issues.

By Rocky Guarriello from Rutherfordton, NC on March 22, 2015 Music Background: Musician, studio owner

I have about ten of these Furman Power Strips. They are rugged, reliable, filter a good bit of noise in 99% of the applications. Even though the power cord is plenty long enough and of good quality I replace this with 12 gauge SO cord which is a lot easier to roll up and I put on a Hubble Hospital grade plug. This combination make for a super power distribution stage box.

Solidly built, effective power supply for amp, pedals, etc.

By Johnny from Boston, Mass on January 23, 2015 Music Background: Hobbyist (old dog teaching himself new tricks)

REALLY sturdy build and useful power supply. It provides plenty of outlets and enough cable length to be useful in a number of scenarios. It allows me to use one dedicated outlet to power all my gear without having power cables zig-zagging around the room. So far it has not caused any excess noise with amp and 3or4 pedals plugged in to it. In fact it may have have stopped the occasional radio interference I have had. I am no electronics expert and the issue was always very intermittent so I may not have recreated the exact circumstance that caused it in the past, but since I began using this for all my power needs for playing guitar I have had no problems. Can't vouch for the power surge protection as I don't think there has been one to know, but it is reassuring all the same to know it is there just in case. So all in all excellent value for money. Would be 5 stars if I knew for sure it solved interference issue and had protected me from a surge... now if only I could get that heavy duty cable to straighten out from being coiled up!

The 15 foot cable...excellent. The lighted switch...great. But what about the performance, right? There's this one old building that I run sound in often, with filthy power and tons of grounding problems. Ground lifts have been tried...and failed. So I powered up the bass rig with the SS-6B Power Strip. While it didn't completely remove ALL the noice, it took it down dramatically so that I was able to run the signal direct for the first time instead of micing the bass cabinet. Built sturdy and gig ready, love that 15" cord. the only thing i noticed on most multy outlet box's thou is it appears all companies put rather light wire size, !4 or 16 gauge, would be nice to see the nicer stuff like this in a 12 , i realize 14 is adeiquit but nice to have things slightly over built.. but i do like this. thanks..

Solid Power Strip but Did Not Stop the Hum

By Sweetwater Customer on July 17, 2016

Very solidly constructed powerstrip. Did nothing to stop the humming coming through my bass amp though. I am happy to keep this powerstrip and it has now replaced my previous gig powerstrip. Comes with a long cord.

great

Does everything I wanted it to do and the extra long cord is a bonus!

Footloose!

By Sweetwater Customer from NJ on March 5, 2020 Music Background: Guitar player for tribute band

Like so many MI products, the protective rubber feet come off way too easily. The replacement feet from A m a z o n come off way too easily too. Don't expect Furman (or any manufacturer) to apologize when they do, or to make them easy to replace. But THIS product will scratch the hell out of your wood floors when they do. The wife won't like that.

Otherwise it does what it does. Heavy and clunky, very long cable (which is good) but with edges that scratch anything they touch, even if the feet are still on. It has no USB outlets but you're paying for surge protection. No way to know how well it works. You just hope your gear is protected when the power is on. I have two of these.

It works. I wish they'd make a heavy duty / durable plastic version.

power strip

well,it does what it's supposed to do ,but that switch is awfull ! it is the most flimsy switch I have ever seen on any kind of device, period ! I don't see the switch lasting very long. but the rest of the unit seems to be good quality, now put in a switch to match the rest of it .

Noise canceling power sttip

By Sweetwater Customer from Tn on March 16, 2018 Music Background: Worship guitar player

I bought this strip to eliminate electrical static I am getting in my guitar amp. The static is a little less but not gone.

The strip is well made , seems pretty sturdy.

Price doesnt justify components

By Sweetwater Customer on November 25, 2018

Pros: Metal chassis Cons: poor quality receptacles
15' cord is VERY useful Very little true surge protection
Professional look on stage Very little filtering
False sense of security

I own three of these, and they have worked well for the last few years, but i came across this video of a teardown of this product, and the components are not great, very little surge protection, and very little filtering.

Ok but...

First, I will tell you that I am a nut about cords laying flat on the floor when laid out for a performance. This is for both aesthetics, and more importantly safety reasons. I bought this strip because of its long cord which would eliminate an extension cord I have been using. When I received this strip I found that it was wired with a cord that would retain the shape shown in the picture forever and provide an accordion shaped trip hazard whenever in use. I have now replaced the cord with a flexible high visibility yellow 15 foot cord that solves the problem. The box itself is metal, it had no feet on it, and very sharp edges (which did draw some of my blood). I sanded down the edges and added some rubber feet to the bottom. Now it's ready for my gig bag. After all that, not sure I would recommend this product.

Didn't touch my 60-cycle hum problem

By Ralph from Boise on March 17, 2016

I like the long cord and the generous plug spacing, and it may indeed clean up certain kinds of power/noise problems, but I guess I was hoping for a miracle... I was hoping that it would remove the nasty 60-cycle hum noise in my single-coil pickup guitars... DIDN'T EVEN MAKE A DENT. Apparently all the lighting in my studio is radiating 60-cycle radio frequencies like crazy, which are picked up by the single-coil pickups like they are the best antennae in the world. Then the pickups transmit that noise to the amp -- that's what they are designed to do.

Oh well, I've learned my lesson about single-coil guitars now. Thank god I put Fender Jeff Beck Hot Noiseless pickups in one of my strats --- now THOSE things are amazing!!!

Pricey And Mostly Unhelpful

By Sweetwater Customer from Houston, TX on January 20, 2014 Music Background: student, musician

I've owned this product for about 3 months and so far it's done it's job as a power strip. However I'm not totally convinced with the EMI/RFI attenuation... Which is why I bothered paying extra for a power strip. I figured Furman was the brand to trust in this area because so many pros use the rack format products they make.

Previous to owning this product I noticed that some gigs the noise from my amp was worse than others. Since I've owned the product I haven't been able to get rid of the noise coming from my amp and/or pedals. I've had my guitar amp modded with ultra low noise caps and own an ISP Decimator. But the last two days I've been picking up radio interference as well as what I believe is EMI (something I've never been able to get rid of). Not just one but both! The very reason I bought this product was for that filtering attenuation!

Not sure what to do now. I don't want to invest in an expensive Furman rack mount system (especially sense I don't own a rack to put it in).
Granted, this product is a nice power strip with a very long cord (which is helpful) but lately I question it's EMI/RFI attenuation.

Horrible Design

By Tim Rooney from Illinois on January 1, 2017

I can't understand how people are writing rave reviews about this product. Look at the outlets. They are all facing in the same direction. So if you have six "blocks" you will only be able to use three. The "tails" on the other three blocks make it impossible to insert them into the outlets. I have not checked other power strips at Sweetwater, but this one is a loser. I have seen other power strips that are configured correctly, i.e opposing sockets at other sources.

Negative 5 Stars

Does absolutely nothing to prevent line noise. Initially, I mistakenly thought the noise was from my single coil pups. Then I bought a Tripp. A world of difference.

Glaring Design Flaw

By Sweetwater Customer on June 8, 2020 Music Background: Musician, Engineer

I would give this device 5 stars if it weren't for one glaring mistake that ruins the entire thing: all of the plugins on this box are facing the same way. How on earth did Furman make a basic mistake like this? Pretty much every single other dual row consumer surge protector I have ever seen has the rows facing away from each other. You would think that a professional piece of equipment would design this right as well. How are you supposed to plug in more than 2 wall warts? I mean, we are talking about music equipment here, where plug transformers are extremely common. If the plugs were laid out properly, you could at least get 3, maybe even 4 wall warts on this. Instead, max out at two and hope that every single other thing you need to plug in is a normal AC cord. This was poorly thought out (as is the GC clone of this box).

Furman, please release a better designed version of this.

This Power strip did not solve my amplifier buzz problem. That may or may not be the fault of the product. It is a very nice, heavy duty power strip with a really long cord though.
