I wanted to get a really special bass as a gift to myself for a milestone birthday. I selected the SR4000E based on product descriptions, phone discussions with sales reps and internet research. The... read more [+]re weren't any of these basses to be found in stores around my area, so I couldn't play one in advance. My biggest disappointment with this bass is the "Power Curve 3-band EQ" that ostensibly "lets you easily tweak the tone on the SR4000E." What I found is that the mid-range shift and treble controls are completely ineffective. I took the bass to a well established luthier that is a certified Ibanez repair shop. They replaced the circuitry under warranty, but the mid-range shift and treble remained as ineffective as before. The luthier concluded that this must be the way this bass was designed. That doesn't give me any satisfaction. My other disappointment is how little time it took for the finish on the bridge pieces to deteriorate. For the amount of money I spent, I expected more quality there. On the plus side, the physical construction and the body finish is superior. The action and playability is dreamy. The bass tone control does work satisfactorily and the overall tone of this bass is outstanding for most songs my band covers. This instrument would get 5 stars if the tone controls performed as advertised. close [-]
