Of ... read more [+]course it had to sound good with good looks too if possible. After giging with this bass for the last three months I can say I'm totally pleased. The neck is a dream to play, the active electronics are dead quiet and I can't think anyone could not find great sounds with this tone monster. And yes, the maple top is beautiful and sits nicely (tone and looks wise) with the mahogany body. Many thanks to Dave Bird at Sweetwater for getting me to take a hard look at this bass and putting up with me while I was trying to make up my mind! Have been playing bass for over 35 years and this one is a keeper. The only reason I gave it a 4.5 was it comes with a gig bag.
