Equipment Guide Video
by Alex from Sacramento, CA, August 2006
Music Background: engineer, producer, studio musician, composer
The video does not go into actual specific "secrets" as it does into "guidelines". I was expecting to learn tips that specifically defined famous big-time producers but there were none in the video. Instead, there were the basic "tips" used not only by every famous producer in the world, but by every novice or amatuer himself. However, the video did go in-depth into specific equipment choice and should therefore be watched for that reason.
its informative
by newguy from sc usa, April 2006
not quite what i was looking for but thats not the video's fault. it is a great video for someone who has no idea about recording. hence, "basic"...it also covered, in detail, things i'll never do, ex. drum mic'ing. i simply use a digital workstation, acoustic guitar, and mic. great detail went to various ways to set up for drums, mic amps for bass guitars, elect, etc. the layout info for your studio was cool and gave me some cheap ideas for my home studio. i read reviews where people complained that the guy uses pro tools for the demo, but if you have half a brain and knowledge of other DAW's, you can easily apply this stuff to your prefered software. enjoy.
Secret's of the Pro's is truly a wealth of information!
by Don Bugansky from Cleveland, Ohio USA, June 2005
I have a pretty extensive background in video productions and have been fascinated by the advancements in pro-audio recording possibilities. I decided to get my hands dirty and dive into the realm of possibilities. I basically did what most would do when starting a new interest, I read a number of “other” instructional books/manuals as well as training DVD's. It was pretty much the usual stuff...after about 15 minutes I needed a "sugar fix" to stay awake. I thought this was supposed to be fun, not some “Einstein's Theory of Relativity” kind of thing! More information than I needed and would probably never use or need to know unless I decided to possibly start my own "record label"
However, my sales associate, Art Hill offered an alternative and recommended "Secrets of the Pro's" DVD's. The folks at "Secrets of the Pro's" have figured out how to get the best information into your hands in the shortest time possible and make it all entertaining/informational at the same time. No crazy theories or deep “techno-jargon”, just great how to get started and need to know information.
I can't express the value I found on both DVD's (Pro Tools Volume 1 and The Basics of Modern Recording & Mixing). Talk about "getting to the point", these guys get you up and running in about 30 minutes. I've watched it a number of times and each time I pick up another "gem" of insight/information. I would highly recommend both DVD's to anyone wanting to get up to speed quickly on the various options/configurations for basic recording as well as the myriad of options for Pro Tools.
Have Fun!
