Best Keyboard Amp I've Ever Owned . . .
by Christopher D. FEe from Rhode Island, U.S. of A., June 2008
Music Background: Garage musician with a solo CD and one in the oven
. . . and I've gone through quite a few. I have this unit paired with a Roland KCW-1 subwoofer, and I'm finally able to hear all the subtlety and nuance my Hammond XK-1 was meant to deliver. It's also freakin' tiny; when I took it out of the box I couldn't believe something that small and light (important to old fat guys like me) could sound that good, but believe me, it does. I've owned a couple of Rolands, and they're really good too, but the sound quality just doesn't compare with that of the SFX. If you've got the cash, just buy it.
Mark II

This little unit is sweet! I'm using it with my Nord Stage and it does an outstanding job with the Stereo imaging. For gigs I always use it with a powered sub, and it holds it's own volume wise even with some fairly loud guitar players.

I was shocked at how much volume this amp puts out. It sounds really clean and makes stereo keyboard sound as they are meant to. My only compaint is that the low end is weak, not unexpected for speakers of this size. This is easily remedied by using the sub out with a powered sub, bass amp, keyboard amp, even a PA speaker. Also, a pole mount would be nice.
Good compromise solution for small venues

Without an external subwoofer, this is an o.k. sounding stereo rig for very small venues or rehearsals. Once you add a bass amp as a sub, it comes to life, because it no longer has to sweat the low mids and the bottom. I use an AccuGroove T112 bass cab, and an Accoustic Image Focus 2R head. Since bass is never really a stereo phenomenon, this solution really creates a first class keyboard rig.
Wow!! Great sound!!

The first unit I got was defective. The stereo imaging was way off and after two weeks it started making a high pitched squeal.
The good folks at Sweetwater made the return process as easy as it could be. You couldn't ask for better service.
When the new unit arrived I plugged it in wondering even with the squeal gone if it would sound any better. I was blown away!! This unit was killer. I A/B'd it with the defective unit and there was not doubt that something was really wrong with it. No worries. I just put the prepaid Fed-Ex air tag on it that SW sent with the replacement and sent it back.
I was doing a gig at a small coffee house this weekend. They have a house P.A. but it's been through the mill and I wanted my live sequences to be clear.
I ran a Roland 1080 Synth, SPD20 percussion pad and a Apple G4 power book through the SFX. I got several complements from non musicians about the great sound of the set-up.
For small gig venues this amp is a dream.
