ReviewsCan't be beat for less than $2500
by Michael Green from Portland, OR
I've put this guitar through it's paces, and here's my impression: if you want a Les Paul, buy a Les Paul. If you want an SG, buy an SG. But if you want a dual humbucking guitar with its own sound a... read more [+]nd vibe, somewhere in between a Les Paul and an SG, then you simply cannot find a better guitar than this PRS SE Singlecut, unless you're willing to spend in excess of $2500. Period. This is the best sounding, best playing, best built guitar in its price range. It's also gorgeous (I love that Sweetwater shows you pictures of the actual guitar you're gonna get; I picked the one I ordered because the flame maple veneer was very nice). I wasn't at all worried about playability, as PRS makes extremely playable guitars and Sweetwater checks 'em out for you. My guitar came out of the box in tune and ready to play. Yeah, I pretty quickly changed the strings, 'cause I always do, but the intonation was spot on and the action was perfect. Oh yeah, I also love the bird inlays, new to the SE series and a really nice touch. As they say in Portlandia: put a bird on it. close [-]

I was looking for a solid, reliable electric guitar for my small home studio and the PRS single cut has proven to be up to the task! With a fret lard that is easy on the fingers and a sound that rival... read more [+]s guitars costing over twice the price, this georgeous deep red beauty is such a bargain! I'm using medium gauge D'Addario strings and my pulls and bends are still clean and effortless. The Perfect guitar when you need to quickly lay down an idea or quick lick. No hassles. No intonation problems. Nothing but great sound and reliability at a surprisingly affordable price. As usual, my sales rep at Sweetwater (Alan) suggested the right gear for my needs! close [-]
August 25, 2011 Music Background: Songwriter, singer Excellent - Improved over previous SE guitars
by Matt from Louisville
This is the third SE I have owned. The first was an SE singlecut trem, the second a singlecut SE korina (absolutely amazing guitar BTW). July 19, 2011 Music Background: performing musician I picked this SE up just a couple of days ago. (local t... read more [+]rade, not sweetwater) I can tell you with complete confidence that the SE line has undergone improvements in playability. They were always great guitars, but the finish work, particularly on the fret is much improved in the 2010-2011 models. It's as good as any expensive guitar I've owned. I was never happy with SE tuners, and these have been exceptional thus far. The pups are very good, not exceptional, but very good. A little fizzy in medium gain applications, but plenty of clarity on the top end without getting brittle or shrill. The guitar stays in tune wonderfully, even better than my Korina, and that's hard to beat. The balance in this guitar is also exceptional - comfortable to play standing, sitting, etc... One possible improvement - the bridge. I've never liked the bridges on these. Good sustain, but they tend to add a little shrillness to the sound. I can say, because I've performed the mod, that the Jason Schroeder bridge ($110) at Stew Mac is a drop in replacement for an SE, and adds tons sustain and even improves tweak-ability with intonation if needed. No holes to drill or anything like that. Anyway, take a chance on this one, it's absolutely excellent! Oh, and the red is WAY better looking in real life. The pictures here are way darker than the real thing. It's a beautiful color! As far as Sweetwater is concerned, if I had all the cash for this up front, I would have ordered it from them rather than a local trade. They are, by far, the best company I have EVER dealt with on ANY product I have ever purchased...simply amazing - the way things should always be done in my opinion. close [-] Excellent - Improved over previous SE guitars

by Jeremy from Oklahoma
This is a fantastic guitar. I intended to buy a LP studio, but after playing a few of those at a big box store, I was not impressed. I gave the PRS a shot, and I thought it was a better instrument. ... read more [+] It plays much like a gibson, but their quality control at PRS seems to be better. I found a lot of careless flaws in the gibsons and fenders I looked at, but the SE's were consistently good. The construction is solid, and the sound is fantastic. Considering the quality of the guitar, the price is incredible. They could really charge more for these guitars. I am very happy with it, and I would suggest it to anyone. Oh, the red looks better in life. The pictures don't do justice. June 2, 2011 Music Background: Hobbyist mostly Pros: Great construction, sound, and feel. Price is perfect. Cons: Pain to get the right case. Not US made...but the quality is there, and the Korean manufacturing is well regulated and relatively good to the environment and workers. close [-] PRS SE Singlecut (Scarlet Red with Birds)
