From Our Research Team:Super Sleek S Guitars Combine Comfort with a Big Sound!Sixteen years ago, everyone knew that a fat mahogany body delivered great tone, but also extra weight and discomfort. Then the Ibanez S changed everything. The S is thin around the edge to give you great comfort, and thick around the neck, pickups and bridge to give you great tone. The current S line offers both double locking and synchronized trems, some including built-in piezos so the S can add acoustic clarity to its signature mahogany tone and sustain.S470DXQM at a Glance:
"The Times They Are A-Changing..." The lyrics to that Bob Dylan song from the 1960s perfectly sum up the fundamental way that modern guitars have evolved: Big, heavy tone without the big heavy body. Super sleek S guitars provide complete playing freedom and comfort without sacrificing your look or sound by combining a mahogany body with a quilted maple top in Transparent Lavender. Clearly, this isn't your dad's electric guitar. The S470 also features the ZR (Zero Resistance) tremolo, a major technological advance in trem smoothness and stability that allows players to bend notes or entire chords up or down without worrying about tuning problems. Wizard II Prestige Three-Piece Maple Neck Anyone that works with wood knows that layers equal stability. Which is why the S470 comes with the Wizard II Prestige neck, a three-piece maple neck that will probably never need adjustment, no matter how hard you play. Another interesting touch is a return to the elegance of a bound rosewood fingerboard. The thin, fast and flat Wizard II necks also deliver on the promise of effortless fret work, thanks to the extreme cutaways and the 22 jumbo frets. IBZ INF Pickups Deliver Maximum Tonal Variation Yesterday's guitars were often able to produce only a few tonal variations. Hey, what good is a sleek, sexy guitar if it doesn't have the sound to match. Thanks to the three specially-designed IBZ humbuckers in the neck and bridge position plus an IBZ single coil in the middle position, you get a super wide tonal spectrum at all volume levels from a whisper to an all out, ear damaging roar! I've had a couple of cheap guitars over the last 20+ years just to fool around with, but I recently decided to get more serious and wanted to upgrade to a decent axe that wouldn't break the bank. I fe... read more [+]ll in lust with the S470DXQM the first time I saw it. It's mahogany for great tone, but thin. You can wear this thing for hours on end and you don't even feel the weight.September 8, 2009 Music Background: Hobbyist The ZR trem is wicked cool. The guitar arrived set up and in tune, ready to play. Wailing away for a couple hours and yanking the whammy doesn't budge the tuning a pinch. It stays locked in no matter what you do. Minor dislikes include exposed pup wiring and my neck pup is slanted. If you press on it, it moves, so it's kind of free floating, but the "at rest" position is angled towards the neck rather than flat. Doesn't seem to affect the sound and all 3 pups are fairly well volume balanced. Lots of reviews say these pups aren't that great and many folks replace them, but I'm playing through a Spider IV 75 and get plenty of sounds, so replacing them isn't high on my to do list. Also wish the whammy bar wasn't the screw it type since I have to take it off every time I put it in its case. Another minor quibble is there are a couple rough spots on the neck where the sanding job didn't get it quite smooth. Doesn't affect playability; it's not noticeable while playing, just when I'm feeling for it. Minor quibbles and dislikes aside, this is a great guitar. I'm playing more than ever because this axe just feels and sounds great. close [-] Ibanez S470DXQM (Bright Blue Burst Quilt)
