Great speakers.

I am doing some DJ work for a local Ballroom Dance Group and very pleased to use my laptop computer with these speakers. I was concerned that they may not have enough volumn for the room but I was wrong as they produced plenty of volumn and great sound quality.
I'm not an expert, but these are the most precise speakers I've ever heard.

I've listened to the M-Audio Bx8a and the 8" Behringer Truths. I had my heart set on the M-Audios, but somehow I ended up buying these after listening to them in a store. I took them home and as we speak I am in sonic bliss.
I can tell that these speakers are designed for super accurate reproduction of mid and high range frequencies. The Low end is solid, but it doesn't thump you in the chest. Instead, it thumps in your head, and you can hear every nuance of it. When the music plays, the speakers disappear. They can sound just a bit harsh at higher volumes, but that can be adjusted, the -2db tweeter setting takes the heat off.
The exotic tweeter design seems to work as advertised. I really am impressed with the amount of detail that is brought out by them. But please, don't just take my word for it, listen to them.
These will definitely improve the quality of my mixes. Your mileage may vary.
The new standard

I'm not gonna bore you with my listening tests but I will say this... If you are on a budget and you need monitors that sound as good or in most cases better than what you would spend on a 1,000, 1,200, or even 1,400 set of monitors then you need these!!
I compared these to monitors that cost 2 and 3 times as much as these do and in my honest opinion these sound clearer and more accurate. The bass response is right on and these monitors do not try to make up frequencies that aren't there. They play within there range and they do it flawlessly even at high volume they do not break up.
The only way I can foresee getting anything better than these is by getting a set of Adams.
new found joy

i've been mixing on a pair of event tr-5 monitors for about 3 years now and felt that it was time to upgrade, as i haven't been completely thrilled with them for a variety of reasons, but they've managed to do the job well enough for that period of time, that i've hung onto them until i could afford something with more clarity and punch. i read a review by some friends of mine in tape op, awhile back, of these monitors, and they gave them a very favorable review for use in their radio station live studio, so i thought that i would purchase a pair to test for myself.
initially i considered purchasing the 8" rubicon's, but i feared that they would be too much for my control room and my ears to handle. it would've been quite a drastic change going from a 5" woofer to an 8". i settled on the rubicon 6a's and i'm very glad that i did. hookup was incredibly easy and they offer a full array of connections: rca, xlr and 1/4".
after getting them into place on auralex mopads and angling them correctly, i set the levels at 12:00 and with the ribbon volume control at -2db, i slowly began raising the control room volume as i played back a mix i'd been working on for a client. immediately, i heard a night and day difference in the spatial qualities of the music. panning was much more discernable, not muddled together like on the event's and interestingly, i also felt as though certain aspects of the mix had a 3-dimensional quality to them as well. the bass was very tight and the top end not too bright. as i boosted the volume to what i consider loud for my space (only about 12:00) on my mixer's control room volume), things still stayed together, but i couldn't imagine wanting to listen to anything at that volume for very long, perhaps just to see what's going on and then returning to something more manageable.
there are 4 settings on the ribbon volume control: -2db, 0, +2db, +4db.
i experimented with the ribbon volume control and noticed slight differences with each incremental boost and decided that i would work with +2db setting for a bit, so that my mixes aren't too bright on some systems, as i've sometimes experienced working on the event's. i intend to do some mixes on these within the next couple weeks and should be able to make a definitive decision regarding that setting once i listen to the mixes in a few auto stereo systems.
my biggest beef with my former monitors has been that there's very little definition in the bass region and these monitors held together very well in that department. originally, when ordering, i considered purchasing the rubicon 10s subwoofer, but after listening to mixes on them, i'm nearly certain that i won't need it, at least not yet. i even listened to some hip hop and bass heavy material that i have in itunes and the bass was tight, no flappiness, no muddy quality.
all in all, i'm very pleased with these monitors. as i cannot yet afford a set of adam ribbon monitors, i'm going to work on these for awhile. the price is great and the features and sound quality even better. the build quality seems solid; clean design. the literature that accompanies the monitors is also well written and easy to understand.
