Like having five complete tube amps inside one head
Imagine having five classic tube-amp powerplants, instantly accessible, packed into one amp head. Now imagine being able to apply any one of these configurations to each of four fully-featured channels, complete with rectifier switching capabilies, reverb, and several gain choices. Mesa's Progressive Linkage gives you just that! The Road King sports an impressive tube complement, including two EL34s and four 6L6 power tubes; It also houses no less than six 12AX7 preamp tubes and two 5U4 rectifier tubes. Each channel's Progressive Linkage functionality lets you combine 6L6s and EL34s, use them independently, or, in the case of the quartet of 6L6s, use the power of all for or opt for the lower wattage of a pair.

Modes offer even more tonal flexibility
In addition to giving you what amounts to five different tube power-amp configurations from one amp, the Road King gives you amazing control over your gain levels. Each channel offers three Mode choices. The two pairs of channels (Rhythm 1 & 2 and Lead 3 & 4) are duplicated so you can use similar pre-amp sounds with different power tube, rectifier and wattage configurations. Channels 1 and 2 offer Clean, Fat, And Brit. Channels 3 and 4 provide Raw, Vintage, and Modern. 

Don't just switch channels — switch cabinets
Cabinet Switcher, a unique Road King feature, includes load protection and lets you dedicate specific cabs for clean and overdriven sounds. It also works great with Mesa's split-chamber Road King cabinets, which include separate open and closed sections.

Dial in the amp response that suits you
This amp doesn't just stop with a huge array of tweakable tones, however. Mesa applied the same attention to detail to the amp's response and dynamics. A Switchable Rectifier feature allows you to tune the power supply for the feeling that best suits your style — tube for a vintage-inspired sag, or silicon diodes for tight tracking punch and authority.
Bold/Spongy Power located on the main AC power switch provides a reduced line voltage setting for additional power sag and enhanced top end harmonic content. Its front panel location allows for on-the-fly selection of incoming line voltage with the full 117 volts for headroom and authority, or a reduced voltage setting (like a built-in Variac) for a vintage-inspired "brown" vibe.

Effects loops and silent tuning functionality
When it's time to play the "tuning song," you need to make sure only your tuner hears it! That's why Mesa included a dedicated Tuner Out jack with a tuner feed: Tuner Mute switch on the included footswitch provides a silent tuning feature.
An external mute jack allows control of the Tuner Mute feature from an external master switcher.
Want effects-loop functionality to match your every need? This amp's dual series effects loops each include a Master Send Level. All loop circuitry can be hard bypassed. You can run separate processing for Channels 1 & 2 and 3 & 4, or run separate effects in Loop 1 and Loop 2 for an amazing blend.
