From Our Research Team:

Take Kontrol!

Rig Kontrol 3 makes life wonderfully easy for guitarists . The enhanced foot controller can be used to control nearly any sound parameter within Guitar Rig 3. Rig Kontrol 3 features a 192kHz/24-bit USB 2.0 stereo audio interface and preamplifier for the fast and convenient connection of bass, guitar, or any other instrument with your computer. Other than your computer you no longer need any additional hardware - just install the software, plug in Rig Kontrol 3 and your instrument, and start playing. It's never been easier for guitarists to create and control tones than with Rig Kontrol 3!

Native Instruments Rig Kontrol 3at a Glance:
  • Connect two guitars or basses simultaneously
  • Take control!
  • Seamless integration with the software
  • New Snapshot feature

Connect two guitars or basses simultaneously
Two inputs allow the use of two guitars or basses simultaneously. Monitor everything with the dedicated headphone socket without needing a P.A. Ideal for practicing and on the road!

Take control!
Rig Kontrol 3's continuous expression pedal and its nine switches are easily assignable to any parameter and afford complete real-time control of Guitar Rig 3. Should you need real-time access to more parameters additional controllers and pedals may be connected to the dedicated inputs as well as to the MIDI interface. Switch presets, turn effects on and off, use the pedal as a wah-wah or volume pedal - all while keeping your fingers on the strings. The controller's data is transmitted via USB 2.0 - ensuring a much higher resolution and more precise control than via MIDI.

Seamless integration with the software
The Guitar Rig 3 software allows fast, easy and convenient assignment of Rig Kontrol 3's switches and pedal to software parameters and saves the assignments with the preset. If you wish, you can define a different controller assignment for every preset. The new modulation matrix makes it possible to control multiple parameters just one controller, e.g. control the delay time, delay feedback and delay wet/dry with one pedal movement!

New Snapshot feature
The new snapshot function makes it possible to store different states of the same rack, this means you can change as many parameters of the current preset as you like with the push of one button. Imagine laying down different snapshots of one song for chorus, verse or bridge - with complete ease and efficiency...

Native Instruments Rig Kontrol 3 Features:
  • Sturdy foot controller with rugged, stylish black aluminum housing
  • One metal pedal and nine ultra solid switches (one under the pedal, e.g. to bypass a WahWah effect). Each switch has a status LED indicating its status.
  • Bidirectional communication with the software (Rig Kontrol 3 displays the status of the software and vice versa)
  • 4 digit status LED displays current Guitar Rig preset number
  • Convenient assignment of parameters from within the software
  • 24-bit/192kHz USB 2.0 audio interface (not backwards compatible with USB 1.1!)
  • Two 1/4" TRS inputs with instrument pre-amps (regular line devices such as synthesizers can be used as well), individual gain controls per channel and signal/peak LEDs
  • Two balanced 1/4" TRS outputs with high/low switch (full scale and -14dB, e.g. for guitar amps) and signal LED meters
  • Headphone 1/4" TRS output with individual level control
  • Two 1/4" pedal inputs for additional expression and volume pedals or switch-boxes

NI- Still Best Software, Now Best Hardware

Works great with ASIO. Not so good with Windows sound.

Music Background:
I purchased the Rig Kontrol 3 for use as an audio interface, expression pedal, and MIDI controller.

First impressions: The RK3 is solid, feels hefty and well-made. The pedal stays where... read more [+] you leave it and the buttons seem like they could hold up to some stomping. However, the USB connector on the back is extremely loose and easily wiggles around, an alarming situation for a device that should be usable on stage. Bump this thing the wrong way and you're going down.

There is no output gain or volume control, so either have a mixer handy for DAW use or prepare to have your monitors blown out since the only onboard volume options are a button which selects between -14dB and 0dB.

The audio interface works great when it comes to ASIO use, or applications that are going to constantly keep the sound card active. The problem is, I tried to use it with a software DJ application that does not make use of ASIO, and found that after about 10 seconds, the sound card goes to sleep if it's not sending any output, and doesn't respond until the next time it receives a signal to output. What could have possessed Native Instruments to build the Rig Kontrol this way?! It renders the sound card effectively useless if you want to record or utilize the inputs/outputs in a non-ASIO program. close [-]
