Feedback kill
Works great. Kills feedback and unwanted echo reflection
bidget sound booth
works great!
Big improvement
Getting one of these has probably made biggest difference in my recording vocals I have ever made. The are so inexpensive there is no reason not to have one.
Mine was a little wobbly, so I put some lock tight stuff on the screws and now it is super solid. I can't recommend these enough!
Took care of the room problem
I had a fair amount of room in my voiceover recordings, so my agent recommended this product to me. It was easy to set up(especially for someone completely new to a home recording setup), and took care of my problem. I had never ordered from Sweetwater before, but I am really impressed with the quality of their service. The phone call checking in and letting me know when it would ship out really stood out to me. I'll be ordering from Sweetwater in the future, for sure.
Great product!
I personally this product definitely help out tremendously! For the price and the results it produce, it is definitely worth it.
sE Reflexion Filter Vocal Booth
This Reflexion Filter works great for my Radio Station as well as in my Recording studio.
Great value for the price. As always Sweetwater and Jeff W rock when I buy from them.
Perfect!
I have a small room so this was perfect for my needs. Brackets are very sturdy with a widely available positions. Lightweight filter construction at a great price.
Great product
Great product easy to use.
Great added separation
In a studio where players are all in one space, using tall gobos between players, this really helps in separation of audio.
Better than expected
My project studio is also my bedroom. Despite my efforts to suppress the acoustic effects of a small room, my vocals didn't 'pop' like they should. With the RF-X,that issue has been effectively overcome. Now, my singer sounds like she's front-and-center, as it were. No more of that 'singing in the shower' sound. I'm happy!
It really works
I am having to set up the studio in a temporary location and had to cut some vocals.
The unit arrived and I was pleasantly surprised. It has plenty of room to place the mic and really built well.
The important thing is that the tracks came out sounding great!
Fairly brief experience, but...
My experience so far has been brief, but I can certainly say that this paired with my new Kaotica Eyeball - game changer. I'm recording in a pretty big room that used to give me insane reverb and it's almost entirely gone. I also had a really random noise floor that reached NEARLY -45dbs in my DAW, and that's now rarely even showing in my DAW at all even with a window open right next to my microphone.
I'd say get this and pair it up with a couple little things that can help reduce reverberations and such and you'll have much cleaner recordings.
works well
Grateful to have some affordable gear to improve my recording space. Quick and effective. Glad I went for it.
Electronics Reflexion Filter X Portable Vocal Booth
Great product, does what it is meant to do very well.
Nice!
I like it. It's affordable and it does its job.
Nice piece of equipment
Sturdy build, quality piece. Should do the trick in my home studio. Can't beat Sweetwater's great service. Buy here!
Well, I love it!
I'm just a for fun, in home studio. However, this setup is rendering some unbelievably clean vocals. Excellent performance, excellent value, I'm stoked!
Exactly what was needed
My daughter records at home and could not get the vocals where she needed them. As soon as she easily set this up, vocals recorded. Perfect solution - great price!
It works!
My home studio is literally an extra bedroom. Previous recordings I noticed my vocals seemed to have a little too much echo. Using the reflection filter eliminated the echo. Im happy with the results. It works!
Worth it
This is well worth the price. Surprisingly affordable compared to other products. Well made and sturdy. Very happy.
Since many are working from home, this makes my recodings sound much better.
Step above
This is such an important piece in our studio. The amount of clarity heard noise in the recording has been awesome. No more background noise, and really helps direct the sound to the mic
My sE Reflexion Filter.
Excellent!
Nice unit
Easy to assemble, works great.
Used on acoustic guitar and vocals.
Cut room noise way down...
Great product.
Just what the audio doctor ordered.
I do VO work in my home studio, and the sE Electronics Filter X Portable Vocal Booth is a great tool. I have activity in my house mo of the day, and with the Reflexion I'm using less background noise reducing plug-ins than I used to. I'm glad I invested in it, and I recommend it.
Awesome Product
I have been warned by fellow musicians to watch out for cheap reflection filters. They said I couldnt get a good one under 150. Well, this product here proves them wrong. Solidly built product here with great quality! So happy I got this one!!!
Exactly what I needed at a reasonable price
I just needed something to practice laying Vocal tracks in my small home studio. Works as expected. Did not fit with my standard Mic boom stand,so I ended up fabricating one from a cymbal stand. Works fine, and sound quality is noticeably better. I put a pillow over the top of the shield since I dont have a sound room. You may want to look up custom stands for this? All and all, if you just want something to start off with, this is good. And Ofcourse, customer service with Sweetwater is second to none.
Codie Is The Man !!
Codie is the best help I have ever received with online ordering if ANYWHERE for ANYTHING I have ever ordered online! He called me immediately after ordering to offer any other assistance. I ended up calling him back only because his call to me prompted me to think. Is there anything else I need? And there was so called back and got a great price quote and will be ordering again very soon! I have dealt with Codie for quite sometime now and he is the best!!
Game changer
Love this iso. Has taken my vocal recording game up 10 levels. Much easier to process and clean the vocals. Easy to use, took me 5 minutes to set up. Works great with my mic (shuresm27). Excellent investment.
Great Portable Vocal Booth
This one is half the price of some for sale here; the surface area is smaller than some, but totally fine if you're using something like the CAD D80 (mics that mount vertically). You can make something like an SM58 work, but it will be a little tight. So far this has fixed some of the acoustic issues in my studio when doing close up, quiet voice work. Love it.
Noticeable difference!
In an untreated room where short reflections get magnified during processing, this filter made it more possible to dial in EQ and compression. My vocals sound great and can"t wait to try it on other sources like guitar cabs and hi hat.
A vast improvement over older models
I bought the older version of this a few years ago (not sure if it was from the same company, though). It was unwieldy, tough to attach to the mic stand, and almost impossible to keep balanced (and twice as expensive). All in all, I used it twice and then gave up on it after it crashed to the floor with my Neumann mic attached.
This model is a bit smaller, a LOT lighter, and a joy to use. To facilitate usage, I bought a second one - one permanently set up on one stand for my Neumann mic and vocals, and one permanently set up on another stand for my Sennheiser small diaphragm mic for acoustic instruments.
I'm recording in a less-than-optimal space with lots of reflections, so I put two 2X4 acoustic panels behind me on the walls in the corner at a 90˚ angle to each other. I get in the corner, facing out so that the panels are behind me, and then block the rest of the room sound with this Reflexion Filter in front of me. It's like being in a vocal booth!
If you're looking at this item, you probably know that you need one. Well, this is the one to get. Works great, and is easy to use.
Just what I needed!
Works very nice. It's relatively light so, I can mount it onto any grade mic stand. I was amazed at the Reflexion Treatment & I used 2 different mics with different Cardoid! The price, for the quality is darn good!
My only wish would have been, for it to be Taller and maybe a little wider but- given the need for lightweight, and excellent 'absorbtion', I'm not complaining! This is very acceptable!
I believe this OEM makes several Hi-End cousins to this Filter/Vox-Booth. If/when the need arises, I highly recommend this Manufactorer's be shopped first for Reflex Filters, Vox Booths, etc.
Works Great!!!
Awesome, cleans up the vocals completely.
Primo Filter That Needs XLR Right Angled Female Cable
This device works wonders, does all that it is advertised to do...with a catch. You will need an angled female XLR connector end for the mic to be able to get even/flush or to get further into the filter to block unwanted reflections hitting the capsule. The typical XLR cable will be right in the way of the bar holding your big 'ol condensor mic and it will be a tight fit to keep the mic vertical if you need the mic to be located inside the filter. You will have to bend the mic cable into an L shape and secure with a velcro-type cable wrap, etc. You will notice in the video that they NEVER fully show the Filter X with a mic cable attached. A small thing that easily becomes a big thing with certain mics. Not very easy to use with my Avantone CV-12 unless mic is very close to end of mounting bar, which brings the mic out and away from the sweet spot inside the protective Filter X sound blocking zone. Get a proper cable with an angle female ended XLR cable, all good. Actually, beyond all good; this thing works wonders!
A No-Regret Investment
The positive results say it all. Brings out the best qualities of your mic by taming all the ugly reflections in improperly treated rooms. I delayed purchasing this based on experiences with a previous model that was a royal pain to adjust, keep in place, and my only regret, like so many others, is that I didb't get this sooner. A small investment that makes a huge difference.
Perfect
If you're finally able to build your studio but you are being budget friendly, this honestly does great. Works perfectly without a fuss and does improve immediate response.
Amazing
The improvement that this screen made to our ability to obtain dry vocals was incredible.
Why didn't I get this earlier?
I don't know why I put off getting this. Makes things so much easier if your space isn't properly treated. Even if it is, it's still awesome. I use it in my treated vocal booth and it made a huge difference. Definitely worth the money, you won't be disappointed.
What A Tool!
I was skeptical, but when i placed this on my mic stand i noticed a difference right away. The construction is very well for a 'cheaper' model and really does the job it's made to do.
Limits extra echo and contains the voice at the source making the editing process a lot easier. I'm pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend this to anyone who may not have good acoustic treated rooms. Put the mic close and have the singer lean in, and you'll find that any room can become a vocal tracking room.
#LoveIt
I bought this reflection filter about a year ago and I use it whenever I need to track some quick vocals in my home studio. It gets the job done with little hassle and it's easy to adjust.
Great!
I purchased the Reflexion Filter to use for my YouTube covers and I must say that it is amazing! Before using the filter, I noticed a lot of room noise and reverb coming through the mic, but the second I installed the Reflexion filter all of that stopped and my vocals were as smooth as butter. I highly recommend this product and I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed!
Major Improvement
This really improved the quality of our vocal recording. We are working on our second CD doing much of our recording in our church, and by using the RF-X we get great isolation for everything. We use it along with a Spark for most of our vocals and have also experimented with the RF-X on guitar, and acoustic piano recording. Definitely a big difference. The portability of the unit is also a huge plus. We can put it wherever we need it! Small item, small price, LARGE difference!
Exceeded my expectations
I used to record in the basement of my old house. The room was well treated for recording/mixing. I bought the sE Electronics Reflexion Filter because last year I moved into a new house that didn't have a very ideal vocal recording space. To date I have recorded 5 songs using the Reflexion Filter and I am getting BETTER recordings now than I ever have before. My vocals are crisp and up front in my mixes. I have to say I was not expecting this thing to make this much of a difference.
Another great thing about this filter is the price. SE has other filters at higher price points. You can choose to invest in one of those if you like, However, don't think that you have to buy the more expensive versions to get results. This guy works just fine from an audio stand point. The higher priced models are have more durable materials and more advance technology on the mounting system etc.
Many people prefer this version anyway because it is lighter and less bulky.
Nice addition. Easy fix.
Unless you have time to fiddle around with acoustic panels and the extra money, this is a quick, easy solution. I have a 24x30 studio with skylights and vaulted ceiling. Not the ideal room. Added this and a noise gate to my condensor microphone. Problems solved.I do have to watch where it's placed to ensure no echo from the front side but thats a minor correction.
Great addition to my recording studio...
This unit has significantly improved the quality of vocal tracks on my home recordings.
I am using a Rode NT 1A microphone for vocals and the clarity, noise reduction and overall
Improvement on my recordings can not be over emphasized. I highly recommend.
Great Buy
Amazing products, works amazingly! There are reviews here who talk down about the product not coming with installation instructions but it's very simple so instructions aren't necessary, this filter deserves all stars available. Great buy, would recommend to anyone!
worth buying
great buy, would recommend to a friend
A Must-Have
I bought this the other day out of curiosity to compare to my Auralex Mudguard and SE Reflexion Filter Pro. I must say that I am pleasantly surprised. I have had the SE Reflexion Filter Pro and was not impressed. I couldn't get it to really stay on the stand, and when I did, I didn't notice a difference, except maybe negative (made things more muddy and/or boxy). This! .. This though is A+. I'm so glad I got curious. My room is treated decently, and my Mudguard does the job at blocking out sound and filtering, BUT .. compared to this it sounds a little dull and lifeless. I would compare this to a very good sounding room, if that makes sense. Some rooms just sound better acoustically, and this thing does the same job, but sounds better. I also bought a Wintech Popguard, the combo of these two has put a smile on my face. I'm utterly surprised how good this thing is, wasn't expecting much given the previous incarnation. It does everything I wanted and expected from it predecessor, without all the mechanical fuss too. Anyway, can't recommend enough. Well done SE!
This reflexion filter rocks nothing like ts predecessor
I was skepical of getting this. But sweetwater hasn't let me down yet. So I went for it! And I am so happy! I hooked it up in like 5 mins, after I watch the sweetwater video. That was actually a drag it doesn't come with instructions. Not sure what's up with that. But after hooking it up, I noticed that it wasn't falling over the place like its predecessor model. God I was fed up with that thing, and for me, it didn't really work. But this one. Yes SE stepped up their game. I song a track using this, and wow, it sounded like I recorded it in a vocal booth. Really good investment, and the price is right!! Grab it!
Amazing!
I use the Filter X in my home studio...essentially a corner in an untreated room...and with my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and AKG P220, it sounds as clean as the professional studio I work in! It takes a little experimentation to find the perfect mic placement, but once you do, the results are great!
Best bang for your buck portable vocal booth
I'll start by saying in emphatic terms, this doesn't negate the need for moderate acoustic treatment. You can't record in a small room with numerous low end problems and expect a solution like this to make it all disappear.
You can, however, expect to record vocals in a decent but reverberant room and expect this to yield superb results. It's designed to take flutter and room reverb out of recording and it does a marvelous job. You have to make sure the capsule of the mic is centered vertically and as far back into this filter as possible for the driest results. And I wouldn't recommend using it in a bathroom, LOL. However, in the middle of a room this thing is great.
I was skeptical and took the Pepsi challenge on this one. Yes, you could probably make something or buy some cheap imitation on eBay but not one that utilizes the air gap and different layers of filtering like this. And, it looks sharp and professional.
great addition to the studio
really helps get rid of unwanted reflections and room sound when my recording environment isn't the best. i'm completely happy with the portable vocal booth and it has definitely improved my sound. thanks guys.
Good choice
Deadens bouncing sound waves as advertised. Perfect for the temporary bathroom audio booth. I used it with the Proscreen 101 louvered metal pop filter ( a must have BTW) with excellent results. I used a two mic stand setup - the SE Reflexion Filter on one; boom style mic stand with mic and pop filter on the other - for laying down narration tracks. Worked great. Highly recommended.
I love shopping with Sweetwater!
The vocal booth worked great for my sons B-day gift. I shop for all his musical equipment here at Sweetwater, with alot of help from Ryan. As a mom, I am never sure what I am purchasing and how the equipment works for what my son needs. Ryan helps me not only with the pricing I need but also with getting it to me on time, even when I call in a bit late. Great follow up and great prices.
Thank you Ryan.
Pleasantly surprised
I really like this. The smallest detail, unmentioned on the sales page, has the largest effect I notice. It has open slits that diffuse & deflect the sound downward as well as the foam to dampen. It's the only one I've found in this price range that has somewhat true diffusion (most are solid or just have holes drilled in them). This extra diffusion helps cut down the reflections before they have a chance to bounce back, and then of course when they do they are re-directed again. I use it on many instruments to take a bit of the room out--that's actually why I bought it. For instance, ribbons can sound really nice backed off from certain guitar amps. Using a Filter X behind them keeps the vibe but keeps focus a little more like a cardioid. Try it everywhere on everything with every mic you have once for fun, you might find a new sound you didn't realize you had.
Very Happy with This Product
My studio is a converted bedroom in my house, and I've never been satisfied with my vocals...muddy, boomy, etc. But since using the Portable Vocal Booth I've noticed a huge improvement in the sound quality of my vocal tracks. Gone is the mud...the difference is like night and day. I went from somewhat skeptical to wishing I had bought this product years ago. Can't wait to try it on acoustic guitar!
Better then expected
I can't record using head phones because i suffer from tinnitus ( ringing of the ears) and was forced to record with the studio monitors on. I was amazed at how little music bled into the vocal mix. I would recommend this product because it can't be beat for the price and it actually does what it's suppose to do
great
it is great no feed back and great isolation.

sE Electronics Reflexion Filter X
Like many, my home "studio" is less than professional. It is, in fact, a converted bedroom (sound familiar?). Because my acoustics are less than ideal, I thought I would try the sE Electronics Reflexion Filter X. My audio now sounds very close to that of a professional studio! I couldn't be happier! We will all have individual experiences with this impressive tool, but for me, it's top notch. I think it will work in most applications, maybe 98%. The other 2% would be impossible, unfixable places to record. Try it - you'll love it!
SE electronics filter is a " Must Have"
This filter is amazing. there is no need of a 100,000 dollar treatment for a studio anymore. This filter keeps the noise floor at 0.with the right gear.
i use a newman U87 and a avalon 737 preamp. with the filter .
and i can get the best vocals possible .
Excellent Filter
The sE Reflection Filter X is a great product and does a superb job. I like the new composite housing which makes it light weight and well balanced on the stand without the need for heavy mounting hardware. The workmanship is excellent and it works very well providing a tight sound. I was looking for a filter for my studio that would do the job but would not break the bank and this unit does it. I have recorded some vocal tracks with it and I am totally satisfied. The only thing I would ask for would be an adjustable mic rod or a choice of lengths. I am using a Blue Bluebird and when installed on the bracket sits high in the filter. If the mic rod was about three inches long it would sit right in the center pocket. This is not a big deal and easily remedied by using two mic stands one for the filter and one for the mic. I highly recommend this filter for those looking for a great quality excellent performing studio tool. For the cost you can't go wrong.
Great shield for Condensers! Highly Recommend!
This is a great product and shield for at home or in studio recording for condenser mics! I highly recommend it! I think the only drawback is that I used a boom mic to mount it so I always had to make sure it would not fall. Also, with that same boom mic I had to be careful and not lose pieces of the shield if I switched out mics. All in all, 4.5/5 stars since the minute hindrance of assembly and dissassembly of this great SE product! Thanks Nicholas Weaver as always!

Great Value
For what it costs this thing is great. The bracket system is a little less flexible than I would like but the sound absorption is pretty good and it seems sturdy enough. Get a big stand though or balance will be a challenge. Does what it says it will do. Overall I love it!
Quality
Well built and just what I expected
Just a 4.5 star rating because it just an iso unit
Worth the investment
It does what it"s supposed to do and also the setup is easy and very sturdy,it looks, feel and sounds authentic.
A surprise for sure
Despite the mixed reviews I have seen, these do work! I have used this specific model for vocal mic reflection management in a decent room and not so decent room and it works very nicely!
Could I attempt to do the same thing with some foam and plastic for less...maybe but...the clients certainly like the feel, sound and look of the Reflexion filter and would probably wonder about my foam sculpture when tracking. This is built pro quality and it works like the pro quality gear it is!
Also works on guitar cabs and horns as well. Just a note!
It works!
I had the original reflection filter and although it worked, it weighted a ton and was hard to keep stable on regular mic stands.
I'm cutting some vocals next to my workstation and my mic was picking up fan noise from my rack. The noise came in about about -22db. When I put this on the stand it went down to -45 db. Low enough not to be a bother.
This item is light, easy to use and set up... and it works.
Carl
Necessary for home recording
It was exactly what I needed.
Recording at home? Grab it!
If you record at home, and you're like me, you've tried all sorts of interesting setups involving pillows, blankets, and who knows what else trying to create some sort of make-shift mic isolation. This filter will easily and pretty affordably solve the majority of your issues. I was fortunate enough to purchase mine bundled with an sE 2200a II - what a deal! It takes a little practice to get fast at setting up the filter, but once you get a good system for your setup you can be recording-ready in no time. As for the sound, tracks recorded with large diaphragm condenser mics are very noticeably cleaner with the rf-x than without it. One thought - make sure you get a decent quality mic stand that can support some weight. The filter plus a mic is a bit hefty for cheap stands with wimpy locks to hold consistently throughout an entire recording session.
Great Vocals
As simple as this "system" is, it works. Very well, too!
Doe's what it's supposed to
It has helped achieve consistent sound levels and tone in the various rooms I record in,and works nicely with the Rode NT1 kit.set up and breakdown is very easy ,
Great idea for the small home studio
Very good for the small home studio. Like the ability to adjust the distance from mic to filter. Have used it twice and very happy with the difference it makes on the vocal tracks.
Great
It captures the sound good keeps the Plugins tight on the mixes i record with and without and with the reflection the reverb and plug in where tighter on the mix works great for me
Reflexion Filter
This is a well-made unit. Quite a bit lighter than the top-of-the-line version, although it lacks some of the adjustment available there. Very good unit.
Great!
It does function as advertised. Just what I needed. Thank you!
sE Electronics Reflexion Filter X
This reflection filter does not reflect much of its own sound into the mic where a lot of other products by big companies create a "dark" tone to the mic while being used. It is not a product where the reflections are gone but more of minimize and utilize the best of your mic at a cheaper alternative than acoustically treating your room and soundproofing the linings of the wall. This product works best at what it is made to do but it is very small. So for musicians who do not have their lyrics remembered, they will have to remember it since there is no space to have a paper holding up behind the mic or using your phone with the google drive app to read the lyrics. If you do have the money, try going for it's biggest brother, SPACE, since that is said to be 20% bigger than the pro itself.
A very useful tool for sound control
Excellent tool for sound/noise control. I use it for V/O work, where I need to minimize my noise floor. My room has sound treatments, but I use it particularly to block noise from my computer monitor (while reading text from it) and my computer tower, and it's also pretty good to dampen other ambient noise.
Make a Different
IT really make's a difference in your studio!! You will notice the clarity
in our vocal recordings instantly.
Great sound isolation
I work for a church, and we bought this to record vocal tracks that our volunteers could use to rehearse. We set the Reflexion Filter up between the singer and the computer. Then we play the track on the computer and have the singer sing along with it (without using headphones). We record in a small room made of concrete block. In the resulting recording you can't really hear the computer playing the track, and the vocal is nice and clear. These recordings aren't professional quality or anything, but the filter has done a great job in making our recordings clean with an easy setup.
great!!
Using this in my untreated room kills all reflection and have taken it on the go for on the location voice overs. I always get great sound with it no matter where I go though.
great deal
love it definitely does what its design to do...
Handy piece of kit to have at the ready
Light weight, easy to set up and does a great job keeping reflections coming back at the vocalist.
It's a great addition, to an already well treated room / home studio
There are of course more expensive options out there, and those are great. I've used many of them in different situations. I use this for vocals and as a backer when I mic up amps. It doesn't completely eliminate bleed from live tracking, but it does help tighten it up. Overall, if you have a well acoustically treated room, this adds a good final touch amount of control. It's something to where it's going to be most notable in a room without much treatment, but ultimately, it's worth investing into some room treatment if you can afford it first, then add something like this to tighten it up even further.
Versatile in use. Again, I use it as a backer when I mic up most sources in some form or another.
Solid Isolation…if it will stay still
This thing can help a singer clean up their track quite a bit in an untreated room…but is HEAVY. Heavier than even my highest quality boom mic stand wants to support once I add on a mic and shockmount etc.
Plan to invest in a quality mic stand and preferably one without a boom arm. Otherwise solid build, looks great and easy installation.
Pretty Great
Like this for travel!
A Good Accessory
I was a little reluctant to buy the sE Electronics Filter X Vocal Booth, but it has proved to be a good purchase. It stops a lot of dispersion and adds a little warmth to the vocals by keeping the sound confined in a soft surrounding area. It also blocks a lot of ambient background noise from being picked up by the mic. A big Thank You to my Sales Engineer, Matt Zuleger, for the suggestion of this purchase. It definitely improved the quality of my vocal recordings. Unfortunately, it didn't improve the quality of my singing!
Does the job
Recently bought this, and definitely does the job. Material quality feels really cheap. I had another one from "Neewer" and theirs was cheaper and way sturdier. But I like the way this one sets up. Would recommend.
Sounds excellent; a little unwieldy
I bought this on the advice of my Sales Engineer, Mike Harris. I record electric guitars and vocals with a ribbon mic, which picks up from both directions, and I was hoping this would eliminate the reflections from my imperfect project studio. It does a wonderful job of this. I've used it on vocals, electric guitars, and actually when I used my ribbon as a kick mic, and it tightened up the sound. I actually noticed it most on the guitars--gone is the extra reverb that I didn't want from my room. I am docking it a star simply because it is a pain in the butt to adjust and switch from mic stand to mic stand, but in terms of efficacy, it's great.
Filter Works Well, Bracket Is Light Duty
We have two of these, have used them enough to know they are essential kit for recording spaces with less than perfect sonic treatment. This is a high quality filter within the low-budget range, much better than the competition. The mounting bracket is light-duty,and while it WILL get the job done, not the best option for larger sized LDC mics. We would recommend spending the little bit of extra dough and upgrade to the Pro version as the mounting bracket is well worth the additional cost, but if this is all you afford, go for it. Your recordings will be better, for sure. Regarding sE Electronics, they make quality products at great prices, plus their customer service folks have always got back to us the very same day we reached out.
Reflexion
I really enjoy having the reflexion filter in my studio. It helps my vocal tracks immensely. Avoids vocals bouncing around the room.
A bit awkward, but good
Recommended to me by my sales engineer. I wish it was a bit less clunky, but I think it'll do what I need it to do.
Beast!
Originally had the Filter Pro, but decided to give the less expensive little bro a chance and automatically became a fan! This for me does the job very very well. Really light weight and the set up was a breeze. It's definitely a portable booth for sure. Great job at absorbing the room noise and gives a really good consistent sound. Doesn't catch everything, but enough to where once in the mix, you sit right where you need to be. Good job all around.
Reflection Filter X Portable Vocal Booth
Excellent product for home studio enthusiasts!
Works well but.....
What it needs is flexibility in the mic placement mounting. I would like to see an up/down adjustment. I do like the front/back adjustment. I use mine reversed as a separate stand from the mic stand.
YOU'RE DOING IT ALL WRONG!
These things are useful, especially in a home studio environment, but the way it's pictured does virtually nothing to isolate your worst offending first reflections. Cardioid mics reject most of what's coming from behind them where everyone bafflingly puts these baffles. Most home studios have hard ceilings, where the first reflection is just a few feet away. Have your singer stand with their back a few feet away from a soft surface (drapery, open closet full of clothing, etc.) Put this on a boom stand and position it OVER the mic like a roof. Carpet will take care of the floor reflection, and this will reduce the ceiling bounce. Off-axis rejection will take care of the rest. This also helps reduce midrange loading from the mic being at the focal point of a semicircle that you're singing directly into.
Nice!
Good addition to the home studio..
Adding equipment for son's recording endeavors
My son loves all the equipment that I buy from Sweetwater. This along with the condenser microphone was a great addition for him.
Well worth the modest price for recording in an untreated room
This inexpensive device is easy to set up, and it works very much as advertised. The quality of my vocal recordings in my untreated room improved immediately; in fact, I could hear the difference even before I hit the record button, just standing in front of the device warming up. It cuts a lot of reflections out of the picture. One small caveat: if you use a microphone with the cable attached to the rear (as opposed to the bottom), it's a tight squeeze to get the mic and cable in; not at all impossible, but it takes a little care. That aside, for many people this is a viable alternative to treating the room, which is much more expensive and time consuming.
Makes a difference
I noticed a pronounced fullness and warm in my recordings using this It also helps isolate some noise from my computer hard drives and a window in my studio. Very handy to have around not only for vocals but for guitar amps etc. There are more expensive versions, but this seems to do a very good job.
It's not a booth, but it helps
This sE Reflexion filter can help clean up your recordings, but you definitely have to be mindful of where you position it. You can't just place it anywhere in the room and get good results. For me placing it in a corner of my room facing the room with a moving blanket hanging behind me works pretty well. You'll definitely want to keep any sound from bouncing back into your mic from behind you. I would say this approach has eliminated 70% of the room from my recordings and that really helps with the mixing process.
70% of Reverb Gone!
Just picked this up and put it my bedroom studio, which is a standard Queen size room with 2 windows and regular sheet rock walls. Placed it facing a corner in the room which is padded and the ceiling is padded. I recorded a vocal which I had previously recorded in the same location with out the shield. After comparing I could still hear some reflections but to an untrained ear they might not hear them, but it was reduced about 70% from my previous recording. Not bad at all for the price
Isolator
Not having a vocal booth is a bummer. This is not a perfect solution but it works somewhat in a quiet room. I wasn't expecting a whole lot but I'm happy with the purchase. Had to work on the threads on one of the thumb screws for about an hour before it would thread in.
Reflection filter
Just too small.
Tenor sax
I'm still experimenting with it. I'm using a blue bird mic. Seems to work better when I put some distance between the mic and the horn, The mic is mounted on the mic stand. The music stand is forward/above the mic.
Good filter. Configuration issues.
The filter does its job, minimizing feedback into mic for a clean recording. One annoying issue is that My XLR plug rests on the adjustable bar, making it hard to set my mic straight. It forces me to either pitch the might to the side, or pull it out to the farthest distance. I prefer my mic to be as close to the filter as possible without the shock mount touching. No wonder it was difficult to find pictures on the net with a cable attached to the mic.
Be warned
I didn't buy this to control vocal reflections in my studio. My studio is treated and sounds good. I got it because I'm doing a remote recording of a band (in the same room) and wanted to minimize bleed from the drums into the vocal mic. It's going to do that job just fine but as soon as I took it out of the box and sang into it, I noticed it reflects mid frequencies back at me. The foam is too hard and reflective so I need to modify it with softer foam or cover the foam with thick cloth or thin felt so it does the job it was designed to do. Everything else works fine. It's solid enough, the quality if good, the hardware works, and it's not cumbersome or heavy. In fact, I like it but be warned. In order to use this as it was intended, you will have to add a layer of something to absorb more sound.
Better ones out there
Pyle makes a much better one for a similar price. This one just doesn't cover enough space to work well.
Portable Vocal Booth is heavy
I have found that this portable vocal booth is heavy and depending on how you set it up, it will tip your mic stand over. I should have researched and bought the higher end model. It's all in the attachment. I wanted to use it to record mic'ing my acoustic guitar. The vocal booth together with the mic (using the Rode NT1A on condenser mic with shockmount) is too heavy on the stand. I will have to set the booth on a separate mic stand and at that, I can only lower the mic stand but so low. Had I researched and bought the updated model, the attachment to the mic stand is superior and you can pretty much set it at whatever height is needed with out the whole thing tipping over. Of course, that model is more. I considered returning it and getting the more expensive model. It should be advertised JUST for vocals, which with a mic stand will be higher up.
you get what you pay for
I was really excited when I bought it, as I was setting up a new studio I knew this would be a key tool for my recording needs. In the past I had the sE Electronics Reflexion Filter PRO Portable Vocal Booth and it made a huge difference in the quality of vocals. I purchased this one because It was cheaper & had better "ratings". Although I liked the quality of the other one because of the metal frame it made it very heavy and would often tip over. This one is lighter and looks good but the foam padding however just doesn't cut it for me. It barley reduced any room ambience and no matter what I did to fix it nothing. If your really on a tight budget then I guess get it but if you have the extra $100 bucks to spend it will make a world of difference.
Doesn’t fit normal mic stand
The shure sm7b fits fine where it's supposed to but the "adapter" doesn't fit the mic stand that the bundle comes with.
I really hate this thing
Awkward and by most accounts pretty useless for sound proofing
Worthless
Ordered one of this to isolate my vocal mic in an overly bright recording environment. This was a waste of money. The unit is too heavy for a standard boom and needs, so one must add at least a pound of counterweight to offset this.
In addition, I found that this thing just will not stay in one spot--it swivels too freely, even when the mount to the stand is screwed down as tightly as possible, sE Electronics may make great mics--but their accessories aren't very high quality.
