All-New, Comprehensive Drum Machine!

From the "masters of drum sounds" comes the first new drum machine in over a year. Small in size and light in weight, this low-profile, easy to use Drum & Bass machine will go anywhere.

The range of drum kits built into the RT-223 is amazing. A total of 70 drum kits are available, with acoustic drum sounds for rock, R&B, funk, and jazz. Add an analog rhythm machine for Techno and Hip Hop. There are five human voice Beat Box style percussion kits and Ethnic percussion sounds.

A drum kit consists of 13 pads x 3 banks equalling 39 sounds per kit. Sound sources can be freely selected and assigned to the pads. Fine-tune parameters such as pitch, level, and panning to create original drum kits. The RT-223 can store up to 58 user-programmed kits. The Bass Machine lets users choose from electric bass styles such as Pick, Finger, and Slap. Or select Acoustic Bass, Synthesizer Bass, or one of the other bass sources, 12 in total. To create a bass line, users play the pads with assigned chromatic pitches just like a keyboard. A dedicated switch mutes the bass sound at any time.

From rock, jazz, and funk to club and house, the RT-223 comes with 440 drum patterns that can be used straight away. A large number of phrase variations including intro, fill-in, and ending patterns are also provided. By simply combining these, users can easily whip up a backing rhythms. Programming patterns is a snap, thanks to the touch-sensitive drum pads. The RT-223 records not only your timing, but also the dynamics of your finger work. You can create and store up to 511 patterns. The process is made even easier through visual cues provided by the self-lit pads and the FAST (Formula Assisted Song Translator) method.

Still the VW Beetle of drum machines

I bought my first version of this drum machine in 1999 and have recently purchased the 2012 model. I have made countless demos and fleshed out many an original tune using the old machine. You can't ... read more [+]beat this unit's bang-for-buck, user-friendly layout, useable sounds, and quick learning curve. You don't have to be an M.I.T. engineering graduate to learn how to use it. I call it the VW beetle of drum machines because the basic layout and function have not changed much since I bought my first one nearly 14 years ago, and I think that's because Zoom got it right the first time. There have been several excellent enhancements, but they do not affect the simplicity of use. close [-]

Good basic machine - easy to program

After wrestling with my old SR-16 for too long just trying to entry simple songs for my group to play against, I decided there must be something better out there. This is it. The light-up pads make using it a lot easier to work with than trying to track what you've entered on some dinky display. The real-time modes allow you to put in stuff just like it was recording, and then play it back and put the stuff together.

The pads trigger fairly easily with a reasonable amount of tap pressure. The drum sounds are pretty good, and it comes stocked with some solid drum kits.

I highly recommend it. close [-]

Well I think it is a decent machine, it needs to be more intuitive though, like a 12 bars pattern in A, should be a easy to program. not so with this. You have to go bar by bar, put turn arounds in w... read more [+]hich can be hard to find , a turn around maybe in a completely different area of the machine. It is very time consuming to program simple things. Like a simple 1, 3, 4 jazz pattern. But is it decent, the manual is really bad, its a joke for programming, you will need help to program a real song. It will take you several hours to program this for a simple blues pattern. it will sound decent but it aint going to replace a real band ever close [-]

The instrument need an instructional video for patterns and songs creating, users of the instrument will actually see how songs and patterns are properly put together. I was a bit disappointed when I tried to follow the manual to create songs. close [-]
