From Our Research Team:

A Stunning Improvement on a Classic Resonator Design!

Abraham Wechter has been designing and building fine instruments for more than 30 years. Having crafted guitars for such artists as John Denver, Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin, Earl Klugh, Jonas Hellborg, BB King, and Rob Ickes, Abraham Wechter has rightly established a solid reputation among musicians the world over for his combination of craftsmanship and innovative design. The Wechter Resonator Maple acoustic squareneck resonator guitar gives you the looks and sound you'd expect out of a classic resonator, but goes one better: improvements made to the dimensions, resonator baffle, and soundholes by renowned designer Tim Scheerhorn make the Scheerhorn Resonator Maple project and sound even better! This instrument includes a curly maple top, back, and sides, with a nato neck and rosewood fingerboard. It features round, screened soundholes, die-cast tuning machines, and a beautiful finish - the Scheerhorn Resonator Maple Guitar looks nearly as amazing as it sounds!

The Scheerhorn Resonator Maple Guitar benefits directly from the resonator designs Abraham Wechter learned from master resonator designer Tim Scheerhorn. In 1988, Tim Scheerhorn began experimenting with the design of resonator guitars to see if he could get a more expressive tone. Two of the key elements that Scheerhorn focused on were the resonator cones and the overall body structure of his resonators. Most off-the-shelf resonator cones are machine stamped, which results in a lifeless tone. Scheerhorn improved the quality of his instruments by hand-spinning his own resonator cones. To match the performance of these resonating elements, Scheerhorn had to build a better resonator guitar. Through his close association with Tim Scheerhorn, Abraham Wechter gained both the fine details of this advanced body design and access to Scheerhorn's hand-spun resonator cones - and the Scheerhorn Resonator Maple Guitar features both! In fact, Tim Scheerhorn himself still routinely reviews Wechter's resonator guitars to make sure that they meet his build specifications.

Just as the incredible tone of Tim Scheerhorn's hand-spun resonator cone and precision design are at the heart of Wechter's Scheerhorn Resonator Maple Guitar, the selection of tonewoods also plays an important role in this fine instrument. The Scheerhorn Resonator Maple Guitar features a curly maple top, back and sides, nato neck, a rosewood fingerboard, and flush maple fingerboard markers and dot inlays. The Scheerhorn Resonator Maple also has beautiful ivory ABS body binding.

The included Wechter Deluxe hardshell case is made to fit your Wechter guitar perfectly and keep it safe. Perfect protection for your Wechter guitar! An ill-fitting case won't do your prized axe any favors; you need a perfect fit! This case is built road tough, and it cradles your Wechter guitar in fitted comfort. Put your Wechter guitar where it belongs - in a genuine Wechter hardshell case!

Got my Wechter Sheerhorn Square Neck Resonator the other day from Sweetwater. Opened up the box and it was just what I was expecting. My Sales Engineer, Dave Bird, hit the head on the nail. I grabbed ... read more [+]my bar and finger picks. Started slidin’ and pickin’ up a storm. A little JT with license and respect, Douglas, Ickes, some Parnell songs and licks… Right from the first note I could tell this guitar was definitely going to be hard to put down.
The Sheerhorn resonator is loaded with professional appointments with close attention paid to intricate detail. The sound that emanates from the Tim Sheerhorn cone is amazing. The guitar cries, sings, twangs, backpedals effortlessly and produces just about any other sound you are capable of creating on it.
Just one thing to remember my friends. It’s not the guitar that makes the player. You need to have the skills and there needs to be a good match up between the player and the instrument. That’s where the Sales Engineer comes in. My Sales Engineer at Sweetwater was Dave Bird. He did a great job. We talked. He took the time to listen and learn about my playing ability and experience and then with that information proceeded to make friendly recommendations which resulted in the sale. This is the way to do business. After talking with Dave, I realized he was familiar with everything that Sweetwater carried. If there was a special item he would go out of his way and do the research. So if you’re purchasing from Sweetwater, give Dave Bird a call. close [-]
