Mahogany Body and Flamed Maple Top
Mahogany is revered for its sweet sustain, smoldering tone, and an acoustical range that extends all the way from deep octaves to a singing upper register, which supports the 24 fret extended range of the RG as well as the extended register of 7-string versions. Mahogany is also valued for its color, grain, stability and high-strength/low weight ratio. A real plus when you have to stand up and play for hours at a time. Visually, the curly pattern of flamed maple is breathtaking. Acoustically, the wavy fibers reduce the long grain stiffness and vibrate more freely — the secret to the bright, clear powerful sound.

24 Jumbo frets and Rosewood Finger Board
The RGT42DXFM’s jumbo frets offer easy playing for leads and chording, while Rosewood offers a strong, bright sound and an attractive appearance with a long grain. And of course, if you’re into playing in the upper register of the guitar, (which we all are) 24 frets give you that extended range.

INF1 and INF2 Pickups
The Ibanez RGT42DXFM features IBZ INF pickups made by DiMarzio in the United States exclusively for Ibanez guitars. Harmonically alive with medium high output, DiMarzio IBZ's were made specifically for hard and heavy rock guitar styles. The Infinity 1 is a versatile and responsive ceramic magnet humbucker with warm classic tone and added output. The Infinity 2 offers enhanced midrange output and excellent dynamics and Alnico-5 magnet for string clarity.

Wizard II Prestige neck and Edge-Pro Tremolo
Ibanez RGT42DXFM’s Wizard Prestige neck features extra steps of finishing to give the comfortable feel of necks broken and rounded by years of dedicated playing. A 5pc thru-body neck on the RGT42DXFM offers massive sustain, easy playability in the upper frets and incredible strength and stability. In addition, the Ibanez RGT42DXFM Prestige model also features many deluxe appointments including the Edge-Pro double locking system which offers improved stability, sustain and smoother operation. The Edge-Pro features a unique Sound Metal Chip on each saddle, which help increase sustain right at the most critical area, the intonation point. To avoid the problem of string holder blocks getting lost during string changes, the Edge-Pro’s sliding string holders are actually part of the bridge and won’t drop from the saddle unit. With the Edge-Pro design, there’s no need to cut off the ball of your strings when installing new strings. Like the Edge-Pro, the Edge-Pro II features sliding string holders and string balls do not have to be cut off. In addition, the Edge-Pro II features two screws in the arm pocket, which allow easy adjustment of the arm height and torque.
