Fantastic value!

This was the first new guitar I had ever bought without trying it out first. I had always wanted an RG 550 back in the day, but never had the cash. So I see the RG350-maple fretboard, HSH, pickguard, ... read more [+]and an awesome price. After reading some online reviews, the only real con I found was complaints about the pickups, so I bought it. First off, ordering from Sweetwater was as easy as it comes. I got personal one on one service, and it arrived from halfway across the country in 2 days.Awesome.

The guitar itself is beautiful. the pictures look darker than the guitar actually is. It arrived pretty well setup, I just lowered the action a tad to my liking. Couldn't find a flaw anywhere. Their 55 point inspection is no joke. Neck was straight as an arrow, frets in great shape, trem set level to the body-couldn't ask for more. The neck is great-super flat fretboard, and enough meat to be comfortable, but not bulky like a les paul neck. Back of neck is a satin like finish, as is the fretboard so it is very smooth to play on.

Has the edge zero 2 trem with the stop bar installed. I'm not a whammy bar freak, but after a week of playing, it still sounds in tune after an initial tune up. The thumbwheel adjuster in the rear cavity is a nice touch. It will make changing string gauges much easier. The trem action is nice and stiff, so resting your palm on the bridge doesn't put you out of tune.

The unplugged tone is quite bright with a nice sanppy ring to it, probably due tot he fretboard. Plugged in, it is apparent that the two humhumbuckers are quite hot. Definitely geared for rock/metal, with lots of good chunk on the low notes. Clean tones are good for stock pickups-bridge humbucker is a little harsh when clean, but I find this is typical of higher output pups. The neck humbucker is nice and fat-maybe a tad muddy, but i haven't really messed with the pickup heights. The weakest link is the middle single coil-it is relatively low output, so by itself, it doesn't compete with the buckers. However, in the 2 and 4 positions, when combined with the coild from the humbuckers, you get a nice twangy clean tone. That being said, could this this guitar benefit from a set of Dimarzios or Duncans, yes. Is it absolutely necessary? No. The Infinity pickups are relatively good for a guitar in the price range. In comparison, the stock pickups in my epi les paul were utter garbage. This is a mid-range guitar, and I would say the pickups are of the same caliber.

THe chrome headstock logo is freakin' sweet.

Overall, this guitar is an exceptional value. I don't see any reason that it couldn't be a semi-pro or pro-level guitar with a pickup change. If you don't have the green for a prestige model RG, the RG 350 will not disappoint you. close [-]

Our Customers Say...

My Sales Engineer is the best. If I need it tomorrow, I have it tomorrow. He makes sure everything is in order and that I'm set up right. I've spent a lot of money at other places, too, but I don't remember them calling me to make sure everything's okay.
