The perfect shell configuration
Unlike typical floor toms, most of which feature all-birch or all-maple shells, Pearl's Reference Pure Series Floor Tom uses a combination of African mahogany and maple to provide you with the perfect balance of warmth and snap. Its shell is also composed of eight individual .9mm plies, whereas most comparable floor tom shells use six or less thicker plies. The result is an extra-thin shell that's surprisingly resonant and complex in tone. And when it comes to clear projection, the Reference Pure Series Floor Tom is second to none.

Next-generation drum hardware
Pearl knows that there's a lot more to making a great drum then just its shell. That's why the developed a whole new series of hardware for their Reference Pure Series. STL swivel tube lugs feature minimal contact and super low-mass, which allows the Reference Pure Series Floor Tom to vibrate freely. This dramatically increases the Reference Pure Series Floor Tom's resonance. Pearl's low-mass 1.6mm Fat Tone Hoop also contributes greatly to the Reference Pure Series Floor Tom's resonance while providing amazing strength and rigidity. Another cool highlight are Air Suspension Rubber Tips, which float the Reference Pure Series Floor Tom and prevent premature sound decay from excessive floor contact. You'll hear all of these elements at work every time you hit the Reference Pure Series Floor Tom.

Pearl's Superior Shell Technology
The Reference Pure Series Floor Tom is a real performer under pressure... literally. Pearl's Superior Shell Technology is a proprietary technique for creating a super-tight air chamber in each of their Reference Series drums. In addition to overlapping the joins of each ply in the shell and saturating them with Pearl's AcoustiGlue, each shell is molded under extreme pressure (1000psi). The result is that you end up with a stronger shell that has a more consistent overall sound.
