September 11, 2012 Music Background: A good controller but more complex than I thought.
by John Semanas from Thoreau, New Mexico
I am sure that this board will eventually turn out to be all that I had imagined but I had problems trying to get Ableton, the DAW software that came with it, to recognize the QX61. In order to get th... read more [+]e software to recognize it you have to go through a complex of file manipulations that are difficult if you are not a computer whiz. By now, they should have added the QX61 to the "Native" controller surfaces list so you don't have to be a genious to add the board to the DAW saftware.July 11, 2012 Music Background: Composer, keyboardist The board, itself, seems well made, except the action is a little stiff for me. What is outstanding is the 61 keys, along with a sustain pedal feature that lets you play this controller like a regular keyboard, which is why I bought it. The display is good but I wish it was in the center so it could be more visible. I think that if they integrate the software by adding the QX61 to the Ableton Native Control Surface list, so I can use it all together, things will go well. The board is usable with other software so that's what I am doing now. The QX61 has a lot going for it and I would buy it again but Alesis is not very responsive in the Customer Support Department, although Sweetwater certainly is and I appreciate doing business with them and plan to continue do give them my business in the future.
