Destined to be a classic
by William Lents from Baltimore, MD USA, June 2008
Music Background: Recording Engineer and Composer
The DVI Prophet 08 is a real throwback. 100% analog path and 8 voices (which you can combine into one PHAT monophonic sound) has made this the instant favorite synth in my collection. The construction is solid; everything from the knobs to the wheels feels as nice as they look, which is to say amazing. The presets aren't all usable by any means, but creating patches is so easy on this bad boy it won't matter for long once you've got your hands on it. 4 mod sources, 4 LFOs, and one amazing low pass filter, Dave Smith has given us a synth that will be in high demand long after its production run ends. Don't hesitate on this one, do yourself a favor and pick it up today.
Fantastic sound & versatile
by greg b. from Mendocino CA, December 2007
Music Background: synthesist for 25+ years
I found this to be a great sounding synth with a very intuitive interface. I was able to get to the deep sound modulation capabilities within minutes of powering it up. Only downside is the knobs- rotary encoders, rather than true analog knobs like Moog Voyager and vintage gear. There seems to be slight lag when moving knobs, and they can be jumpy. Even so, it's possibly the best synth I've ever played, and true analog at $250/voice, you can't beat it.
Analog Heaven

Thankfully, I got to try this puppy out at a Guitar Center. It sounds absolutely fantastic. Soundwise, think Gentlemen Take Polaroids by Japan. Yeah, it's got THAT sound. Organic, noisy, dark...yet incredibly warm.
DSI Prophet '08 analog synthesizer
by Kursat Pasinlioglu , October 2007
Music Background: Pro Musician/Engineer
Pure analog signal path, flexible modulation capabilities, 8 voice polyphony and featuring amazing Curtis filters give Prophet ’08 its ultimate sonic character and warm sound. Knobs are arranged and located in an ergonomic way so that sound programming is not complicated. Besides, if you have its editor program the sonic possibilities of this analog monster are just limited to your imagination. Layering concept of two programs, having arpeggiator, gated sequencer features give really flexible and fat results; creamy pads, strong basses, expressive leads. Keyboard action is good and comfortable. Cons: Presets could be better.
Prophet '08
by Alchemist , October 2007
It’s a real analog synth which has a unique warm sound, and better capabilities and modulation features than that of the past vintages. Its neat and logical interface lets you modify the presets and create your owns quite easily. Editor/libararian software (which comes together with the Special Edition free, or you may purchase it from DSI site if you have standard version) makes the sound programming even much easier, and you can organize your preset banks both in the synth or in your hard drive. Cons: Headphone amp seems so powerful which is more than necessary. Keyboard and tweaking feels are great.
Big Flashback Analog Sound
by Matt Baginski from Philadelphia, PA, October 2007
Music Background: Pro Musician
Analog at it's best. Eight voices, who would ever think you would ever see this again at such a low price. Goodby OB8 tired of fixing you. This Prophet rules my studio for phat rich pads & leads. So easy to program and you can modulate just about anything. Cons: Knobs feel a little flimsy but don't let that stand in the way of big sound. A+ analog keyboard.
