M-Audio ProFire 2626 at a Glance:
Eight Octane pre-amps
Great sound depends on the quality of your preamps, and the ProFire 2626 delivers a whopping eight of M-Audio's award-winning Octane preamps. Each preamp has a generous 75dB gain range, a -20dB pad, and phantom power that you can switch on channels 1-4 or 5-8. Whether you're using your favorite dynamics, ribbons, or condensers, you can get great sound for the whole band through the ProFire 2626.
Onboard DSP mixer for flexible routing
M-Audio understands that not every recording situation is the same. With an onboard DSP router, you can select from up to 52 streams of audio and then send them to any of the 26 hardware outputs by routing in stereo pairs. Select from any of the 26 hardware inputs and 26 software returns and make them sources for any of the ProFire 2626's 18 input channels and create up to eight stereo mixes. With the ProFire 2626, you can create favorite presets and recall them whenever you like.
You can use your ProFire 2626 as a standalone eight-channel preamp, an eight-channel A/D-D/A converter, as well as a digital format converter. When in standalone mode, the eight analog inputs route to the ProFire 2626's frist eight ADAT optical output channels, making it easy to use line, instrument, and mic ins with other digital gear! By accepting optical ADAT input, the ProFire 2626 can route those eight channels to its eight analog outputs, providing D/A functionality as well. Adding even more flexibility, the ProFire 2626 can convert coaxial S/PDIF to optical S/PDIF.
High sound quality with tons of ins and outs
With high-quality converters, the ProFire 2626 delivers sampling rates up to 192kHz. Acclaimed JetPLL technology provides stable synchronization and works to eliminate jitter that can otherwise reduce audio quality. the ProFire 2626 allows master or slave operation via its internal clock, and its internal drivers deliver ultra-low latency. With ADAT lightpipe in and out, 2 x 2 S/PDIF digital I/O, on top of XLR and 1/4" TRS line inputs, with 1/4" instrument jacks on the front panel, the ProFire 2626 is readily equipped to handle your recording needs.

If your looking to maximize your Pro Tools rig without the insane cost of the pros, this is your ticket. close [-]
For the person just getting into recording, this is an inexpensive way to get eight great analog inputs and outputs to and from Pro Tools. For the current Pro Tools studio, this is an excellent option for getting eight extra ins and outs via ADAT lightpipe, and this can be a great portable rig (since it's only 1U). Then you can bring the session back and open it up in your HD or LE rig. Lastly, because this interface can work with any DAW, not just Pro Tools, it is a great-sounding piece at a great price for anyone.
