From Our Research Team:Light on Disc Space, Full on Sound! In a world where bigger and vaster sample libraries seem to dictate the quality of virtual instrument pianos, MODARTT's PIANOTEQ series seems to come out of left field. PIANOTEQ pianos sound significantly more realistic than many highly acclaimed, sample-based VI pianos. What's more, they weigh in at only a handful of MB - that's MB, not GB! How do they do it? Pure physical modeling, that's how. PIANOTEQ pianos' physical modeling relies on precise math to calculate the sound of each piano, relying on the power of your computer's CPU to perform complex math on the fly. Because modern CPUs are so powerful, you can install PIANOTEQ PLAY on even a less than brand-new laptop with limited hard drive space and still get the piano sound you need. The results are simply staggering! There are no phase problems between notes to contend with or repetitious looping to suck the life out of your sound. Each note comes into existence for the first time as you press each key on your controller, the same way notes come alive when you play a real acoustic piano. And thanks to PIANOTEQ PLAY, the introductory version of PIANOTEQ, you can experience these breathtaking instruments at an especially affordable cost. PIANOTEQ PLAY also supports PIANOTEQ add-on instruments, so you can expand your library of sounds. The K1, C3, and M3 grand pianos are embedded into PIANOTEQ PLAY's architecture, and there are several commercial add-ons available as well, including the free KIViR historical keyed-instrument collection. Pick up PIANOTEQ PLAY today and start experiencing virtual piano as you never have before! MODARTT PIANOTEQ PLAY Virtual Instrument Piano Features at a Glance:

November 7, 2011 Music Background: Pro Audio Design The best of the bunch, IMHO
by Steve from Texas
Finally someone is getting close. I'm tweaking and tweaking the C3 model and I've almost created presets that when doing an A/B listening test with a real recorded piano, I have a tough time telling. ... read more [+]And I can't yet say that for any other brand out there, and I've listened. Some are close but in certain ranges, or during certain passages it's obvious, but not so much with the PianoTEQ. It even feels good to play. Not like sitting at a real piano, but that's not the point here. It's how well it's sounds recorded, and how well it sits in a mix that matters. And this one is very close. I have the Standard version. This version (3.6.7) is not perfect, but it's very good once you get under the hood and tweak. I have three pedals connected to mine, so just to say the editing is quite extensive, but is the key to getting it right. Might get the Pro version so I can record at higher sampling rates. It does tax the CPU as a plugin in your DAW, so you'll need a newer computer if other tracks will be involved, but as a stand alone, it runs fine. It really does make the CPU work hard, but Moddartt is on to something and is perhaps the current leader. close [-]

I wasn't impressed with the original versions of pianoteq, but they have improved greatly with version 3.
