Makes practice much more fun

I love this thing. I am a beginner and this little Korg Pandora makes practice a lot more interesting. The jam setting in the phrase trainer is my favorite feature. You just set whatever bass/drum beat you want (there's a crap-load to choose from), tell it how many measures you want to record and lay down a rhythm for those measures. Then you can play leads over that whole deal. I don't pretend to know if the effects are high quality or not, they sound good to me but I am too new at guitar to give a useful opinion at this point. It's easy to use and is full of features. Buy this thing.
I stopped using my other effects....

OK...I have a Line 6 PODXT Live, a BOSS GT-8, a BOSS ME-50, and a Zoom G1 (all bought from Sweetwater). I'm probably going to sell them on Ebay.
I have a couple of nice guitar amps, but I don't like dragging them to every gig. One of my criteria for an effects processor is that it shouldn't suck when I go direct to my PA.
The PX4D doesn't suck when connected direct-to-PA, and the sounds that come out of it are thoroughly convincing. I would not gig without it, it's a must have IMHO.
" A MUST HAVE"

I must say, I have NEVER seen such a HIGH QUALITY Multi-effects Processor for such a resonable price!!
You can not believe the number of effects and different amp models that this Korg PX4D puts out! It is VERY easy to use and the on-board tuner is a BIG plus! When I grab one of my guitars, the first thing I do is plug straight into my PX4D. I NEVER play without it. NEVER!!!
If you were to sit down and add up in cost ALL of the different Effects that the PX4D provides and the number of pedals that you would need to even come close to the PX4D. You would go broke and run out of floor space.
Thank-You to Korg an Sweetwater for offering such an AWSOME Effects Processor for such a reasonable price!!!
Pandora PX4D

A very good at-home multi effects unit. Perfect for personal use through quality headphones; it's portable and versatile. I get about 12 hours of use with 750mAh NiMH rechargeable AAA batteries (I did not purchase the DC adapter).
The feature I use most is the tuner which is very stable and accurate. The PX4D has effects that few other units offer in any price range offer, such as an out-of-phase simulator to give that pinched nasal or retro tone, uni-vibe, dynamic rotary speaker, harmonized pitch shifter, and a rythm trainer that allows you to link different beats and fills together to build a song. The PX4D also can insert a bass line in a selected key to match the rythm pattern. The bass is simplistic and sometimes a bit goofy but can be a fun tool when playing by your self. You can also change the pitch on music played through the AUX input, Eb becomes E, cool.
Amp modelling is okay. Some good, some great, some poor. I am least impressed with the VOX amps, you have to keep the gain and EQ setting low or you get a swishy, high frequency distortion. This comes as a surprise as VOX and Korg are partnered and they are the only amps identified by name (the others are vague descriptions of classic amps, such as 'UK BLUES' for what I guess is a Marshall JTM45 or 'TWD4x10' for a Fender Bassman)
With patient tweaking (you do need to read the manual to understand all the functions)I have been able to get almost any tone I need, from smooth jazz, gritty blues, classic rock bite, to rich distortion. My preference is to model tones after artists and recordings, the PX4D has allowed me to do this.
I have never used the thumb wheel to access amp tones. I wish Korg allowed the user to input favourite patches here for quick recall instead, or at least to arrange them in banks; it is tedious switching from patch 1 to 100. Another complaint is the garbled, low-fi sound quality on the phrase trainer's playback.
The PX4D is for bass players too. As a guitar player I have little use for the bass effects although I have used some of the bass amps in my patches. There is a PX4A for acoustic guitar effects, why didin't Korg make a dedicated unit for bass players and one for guitarists that combines effects for both electric and acoustic performance?
Overall it's a quality product; made of plastic and lightweight, but I've used it for almost a year now (dropped it a few times onto carpeted floor) and it still works like new. I would reccommend it for fun use only or maybe as a songwriting tool or for a pro travelling on a tour bus. It's too hard to switch things on the fly for live performance. A ton of features for the price.
