Avid Pro Tools HD DAW Software at a Glance:
Speed up your workflow with Disc Caching
Far and about one of the most impressive new features of Pro Tools HD 10 is its Disc Caching features. This incredible technology lets you allocate some of your computer's RAM for the purpose of storing (caching) your session's audio. Since read/write speeds to RAM are much faster than even the fastest traditional hard drive, once your sessions is cached (a process that happens in the background and takes only a few seconds), you get a serious performance boost. Instantly play from anywhere in your session, jump from marker to marker with the timeline running, and more. This features alone completely changes the way Pro Tools HD behaves and is more than worth the price of admission.
Expanded automatic delay compensation lets you pile on the plug-ins
Go ahead - load up the plug-ins. Pro Tools HD 10 introduces a whopping 1,6383 samples of delay compensation, so if you want to get crazy with convolution or stack up some L3s, you're safe. Speaking of plug-ins, check out Avid's new Channel Strip plug-in. It's the same channel strip algorithm found in the legendary System 5 console - the one used in major broadcast houses and post-production mixing facilities. To put it mildly, the Channel Strip plug-in is a huge upgrade to Pro Tools HD.
Advanced EUCON Integration
Pro Tools HD 10 builds on the EUCON support first introduced in version 9, adding over 500 newly supported functions. Any command you can access from Pro Tools HD's pull-down menus (not just those with key commands) is now available to your EUCON-equipped control surface. So whether you're using a set of Artist Series control surfaces or take the plunge into a System 5-MC workstation, you'll get the hands-on control over Pro Tools HD you need. What's more, Pro Tools HD 10 adds EUCON control for XMON, giving you even more control rooms options.
Increased flexibility for large-scale workflows
Your hardware's ready for bigger and better production schemes, but what about integration into full-scale production environments? No problem. In addition to supporting sessions with mixed file types, Pro Tools HD 10 comes ready to integrate into your mass storage setup. Whether you use an ISIS 5000 storage system, or simply want to keep your sessions safely stored on your RAID, Pro Tools HD 10 is ready.
Awesome new features for post, music, and more
Many of the cool new features in Pro Tools HD 10 were developed to meet the needs of post-production professionals and provide tighter integration with Avid's Media Composer. However, these inspiring tools are useful no matter what you use Pro Tools HD for. Realtime fades make editing on the fly easy, and Pro Tools HD's new AudioSuite processing tools add the ability to process audio beyond the selected clip, so you can add crossfades after processing. Plus, you can now apply reverse delay or reverb with a single click. Finally, Clip Gain adds a whole new level of dynamic volume control to Pro Tools HD. The list goes on and on. Pro Tools HD 10, upgrade from 9
by Shaun from Buffalo, NY USABeing a life long Pro Tools user, I have watched it grow since the early '90s. Every new upgrade brings a few surprises, mostly pleasant. As I depend on PT for my livelihood I am always nervous abou... read more [+]t a software update, especially one as global as this. I am pleased to report, however, that once I bit the bullet and went forward with HD 10, there were no problems whatsoever. My biggest fear is that a third party plug-in won't work. But, as far as I can tell, they all do. My only complaint is the cost. Over the years I have consumed a lot of Digidesign/Avid software, but this cost me $999. The benefits, for that price, are small. This coupled with the fact that when v. 11 comes out I will be forced to trade in or decomission my HD hardware makes it particularly hard to take. Come on, Avid. Devoted professional users should be given some credit for their years of loyalty! close [-]
