From Our Research Team:These 3-way Loudspeakers Pack a Full-bodied Sound! If you're looking for a full-sized speaker that covers the full frequency range more evenly than a conventional 2-way model, check out JBL's PRX635 3-way active loudspeaker. The PRX635 provides you with a full and rich tone that extends from deep and expressive lows to crisp and detailed highs. On its own, the PRX635 can cover larger clubs and midsized venues easily, and when you add a subwoofer or two, you'll be able to fill much larger spaces with evenly balance sound. As with the rest of JBL's PRX600 series speakers, the 3-way PRX635 15" loudspeaker features highly efficient Class D technology and advanced cabinet design. When you need to tackle the sound reinforcement challenges that plague almost any live sound environment - high ambient noise levels, poor sound diffusion, and loud stage volumes - JBL's PRX600 series loudspeakers give you the tools you need to go beyond the quality your audience will expect. Lighter cabinets (only 60 lbs. for the 1,500-watt PRX635!) make loading and unloading easier than before, and tour-tested rugged designs won't let you down when your sound matters most.JBL PRX635 Active Loudspeaker Features at a Glance:

JBL really did their homework on this product. I had a pair of PRX512Ms and didn't like the hole in the midrange (typical of all 2-way speakers) or the annoyingly audible noise gate that would cut of... read more [+]f soft passages and reverb trails during low-volume performances. I took a chance on getting a PRX635 to replace a pair of PRX512M, and I couldn't be happier. It may seem like an odd choice, but it totally works for me. They sound much better and more "full-range" than the PRX512M and have none of the annoying gating nonsense that the PRX500 series had. It's smooth and quiet (meaning not noisy) and sounds great even at low volumes. I can rehearse in my spare bedroom while my small children are sleeping, and it sounds great even at a volume that is quiet enough to let everyone sleep, and yet sounds even better the more you crank it up. The paper midrange driver is the secret. It fills the midrange hole perfectly and sounds smooth as silk. It's big, but not too big. I can carry it by myself, even up and down stairs. It really is an amazing amount of sound in such a relatively small and portable package. It's as small and light as it could be given today's technology. You won't sound better than you do through these speakers. My PA now sounds better than anything anyone else has going in my area, and is even better sounding than most of the house sound systems at the local venues. I use it with acoustic guitar (Taylor 614CE and Epiphone Masterbilt), keyboards, some electronic instruments, a Shure Beta 58, and a DBX1066 with a Mackie board. It's freakin' awesome. My PA now sounds totally pro. This is the live sound I have been seeking for decades, and now I have it. close [-]

I have been using the QSC HPR153 speakers for the past 4 years. They were awesome speakers... but very heavy. I decided I wanted to move to a lightweight speaker... but also wanted to stay with a 3-... read more [+]way box. I waited.. and waited... and finally this speaker arrived. October 16, 2010 Music Background: Country/Rock/Blues, Live Sound Engineer, Pro Musician The clarity of this speaker is amazing. And they are very loud. The low end is surprisingly good. I haven't paired them with a subwoofer yet.. but I'm planning to buy the XLF 1000 watt sub soon. The best part is... it is only 60lbs.. so it can be pole mounted (unlike the HPR153). Now I can raise the speakers to the appropriate height - even when the room is crowded. I didn't do a side by side comparison with the QSC speakers.. but having used them for 4 years... I'm not disappointed with the switch to JBL. If you are looking for a powerful... great sounding... lightweight 3-way speaker... you'll be very pleased with the PRX635. close [-] I Spoke too soon...

OK.. so the first review was mine also. I wrote it after only one gig with my new PRX635 speaks.. and I may have jumped the gun with all of the praises I gave this speaker. November 19, 2010 Music Background: Country/Rock/Blues, Live Sound Engineer, Pro Musician On my seco... read more [+]nd gig.. I noticed a rattling/buzzing noise on one of the speakers. It took me a couple of gigs to trouble shoot it b/c it was an intermittent problem. After a few gigs.. I pin pointed it to a low frequency bass guitar note that was causing it. I called my sweetwater rep... and no questions asked.. he sent me a replacement speaker. I received it a few days later... and brought it to my gig that same night. I set the speaker up... powered it on... ran a sound check... and thought every thing was good. However, about 5 songs into the first set... the power suddenly shut off on the replacement speaker. It never came back on. The following day... I checked the fuse. It was still good. The amp just died for no reason. Sooo... now that I've had these speakers for a few weeks... I can now say this: 1. They sound fantastic. 2. They are very light weight. 3. The price is great. 4. They are NOT reliable. 5. I owned the QSC speakers for 4 years and never had any issues. I'm returning the JBL speakers tomorrow... and moving back to QSC. This time around I'm gonna go with the KW153 speakers. I demo'd them today at my local guitar center. They are definitely built better... and the sound is exceptional as well. Perhaps my experience with the JBL speakers was a fluke. Maybe I just got a couple of duds. BUT... I gig 4-5 nights per week and can't afford to risk it with speakers that are not reliable. close [-] Also popular
