A great replacement for a plastic nut

This is infinitely better than the plastic nut on my Mexican Fender Jaguar. It doesn't stick when tuning, or worse when using the trem.

Installing is not for the feint of heart. Using a fret hammer to remove your old one will make sure you don't mess up your neck/headstock. It errs on the side of extra material, much better than the alternative. But it means you will have to carefully sand down all dimensions, and round and polish the edges. For mine, the tab at the bottom needed to be filed off and sanded, you can find out if that applies to you with a Google search. Keep your original around for reference. I really don't throw away anything that was functional anyway. There are plenty of HOWTO YouTube videos.

And you can always get a professional to install for you. I just like tinkering and putting myself into my guitars. And they're inexpensive enough that if you mess up, it's not the end of the world. Reinstall the old and reorder. I didn't need to, though.

The slots and radius were perfect. That's a huge win, since a proper set of nut files is pricey and that work is more complex.

I'd definitely pick this over bone unless it's being done by a very experienced luthier.

Best bang for your buck upgrade

My MIM Stratocaster sounded lifeless ad felt dull in my hands. Now it rings and feels so nice. Really made a huge difference in making me want to play this guitar. Easy install. Just some minor sanding and perfecto!

Great Upgrade

This made my MIM strat come to life! I also dropped it in to a Charvel which improved tone as well. I will have more of these on hand to upgrade any of my sub $1,000 guitars for sure. It requires a bit of sanding to fit, but if you have a small bit of confidence with using tools you can definitely get the job done. There are plenty of videos online explaining how to install it.

Easy to install

The tones are so much more brilliant. Being pre slotted made insulation easy. Now when I make adjustments 4 string height and intonation I don't have to worry about the nut being worn or part of the problem. I did watch a couple YouTube videos on how to remove and install on stratocasters before I started. It truly was a piece of cake. Important to set the two outside strings before glue dries so the nut centers all the strings. Hardest thing was filing the overhang so I didn't scratch the guitar finish. Just go slow while filing or use a fine tip grinding tool on a Dremel and hold on tight so as not to run over any wood finish.

Music background: Beginning guitarist for 30 years now

Great for American Special Stratocaster

Easy to install. Just be patient and watch some You Tube videos for pointers. Gently sand the width and length until the nut fits the slot in your guitar. The center tab needs to be sanded off. The resulting radius fits the American Special perfectly. After removing the stock nut, I compared it to the new one by dropping them (one at a time) on a granite counter top. The Tusq XL "rings" noticeably more. Can my ears tell the difference after it is installed in the guitar? No... What do you have to lose.
