Linear-style "Retake" function makes it easy to record over mistakes
Let's say you're using your Marantz PMD661 MKII handheld recorder for dictation, or interviews perhaps. The Retake function lets you "rewind" and record over any mistakes or disruptions, without creating a new audio file. Later, when you're managing all of your recorded audio, you'll be extremely pleased that you did not create a lot of unnecessary files. You'll also be spared the hassle of piecing together multiple files created during the same recording session.

Advanced encryption keeps your files secure from unauthorized playback
If your audio recordings are of a sensitive nature, you need to be sure they can't be accessed without authorization. The PMD661 MKII lets you protect your files right from the start, encrypting your MP3 files to MPS files and your WAV files to WAS files. Both types of files require a four-digit password authorization to play back. Even better, password authorization will also be required to play back the files in the included PMD Mark Editor software, so your recordings will be secure there too.

In addition to the PMD661 MKII's easily navigable user interface, flexible input options, and excellent sound quality, Marantz bundled its Mark Editor software for free for the first time. This software lets you adjust marker points you make on recorded files after you've recorded, so you can perform basic editing functions on any PC or laptop without needing any extra software.
