Customer Reviewsfrom Grand Rapids, MI May 28, 2009 Music Background: filmmaker Missing compressor.I agree with the previous reviewer and would add that there is no onboard compressor to deal with sudden loudness like in the Handy Zoom. And the lack of 48v phantom power is definitely a oversight.from Chicago, IL USA November 11, 2008 Music Background: Sound FX Designer Good But not Great .I bought this from Sweetwater when they first came out. I really do like the recorder for quick recording in impromptu situations. It is about the size of the first generation ipod but much lighter. So light it feels very fragile bordering on chintzy. My main caveat with this machine is that it doen't have standard 48v phantom power. It only has 5v phantom power for small electret microphones. I had to purchase a sound devices MP1 pre amp to power my new Rode NTG3 . with this setup the PMD620 sounds great. Though this set-up isn't the best in portability. especially because of the 1/8 mini connector line and mic ins . If you want a good recorder, that can fit in your shirt pocket, for impromptu field recording than this is a good option. However, if you need better sound quality AND portability , there are better options, Albeit not on this price range.
