Big-Speaker Sound from Tannoy! Tannoy has long been famous for their quality high-end studio monitors. The new Precision 8D active monitors offer a combination of outstanding sound, compact footprint and value for your studio! Tannoy Precision 8D Active Monitor at a Glance: Clean, natural sound thanks to Dual Concentric driver Accurate high frequencies from Tannoy's exclusive SuperTweeter S/PDIF digital input plus analog ins Adjustable low, mid and high-frequency settings Stiff, heavy enclosure with special baffle design Clean, natural sound thanks to Dual Concentric driver The Precision 8D gets much of its clarity from a cast chassis Tannoy Dual Concentric driver. It's really two drivers properly merged into one, with the high-frequency mounted on the back of the low-frequency unit so that both drivers are on the same axis. As a result sound energy is propagated from the same point and delivered through the center of the low-frequency cone, providing a true point source. The Precision 8D's integrated approach provides a constant time delay over the frequency spectrum, offering better transient performance and sound quality with better harmonic alignment. The crucial benefit at the mix position is the delivery of a more natural and cleaner sound with greatly enhanced intelligibility. Another key benefit of the Precision 8D's dual design is a very wide "sweet spot" with an exceptionally even response throughout the listening area and extraordinary transient response. Accurate high frequencies from Tannoy's exclusive SuperTweeter The Tannoy SuperTweeter extends the Precision 8D's amplitude response beyond 20kHz to 50kHz! This corrects the phase response from 8kHz to 20kHz within the audible band. That preserves the harmonic structure of sounds and the stability of the stereo image. The smooth tweeter face plate contours prevent diffraction and cavity effects, making the Precision 8D an exceptionally accurate monitor. S/PDIF digital input plus analog ins You can maintain an unbroken signal path all the way to power amps with the Precision 8D. It features a coax input for S/PDIF, plus an additional S/PDIF output for continuation of the signal to the second stereo speaker. Sampling rates of 44.1kHz and 96kHz are supported. The Precision 8D also includes analog inputs on an XLR/TRS combo jack for convenience. Adjustable low, mid and high-frequency settings One thing that makes the Precision 8D great for small control rooms or cramped mix environments is its ability to acoustically adapt to its surroundings. A series of DIP switches control low-frequency alignment, mid/near/close field and half/quarter/eighth-space compensation. In addition, you can control the mid band and high-frequency shelving trim. Stiff, heavy enclosure with special baffle design Tannoy monitors have always excelled at resonance-free reproduction, and the Precision 8D is no exception. Its 18mm MDF enclosure provides structural stiffness and minimizes coloration. Internally, braces on the sides and rear of the cabinet against the rear of the bass driver provide a rigid reactive mass for the moving cone assembly. That ensures fast, tight bass response and clear midrange. Plus, the 40mm thick front baffle is specially sculpted to keep diffraction to a minimum. With 120 watts for lows and 60 watts for highs, the Precision 8D serves up high-end sound quality at a price you don't expect from Tannoy! Sweetwater Expert Advice     "I replaced a set of what I thought to be pretty decent monitors (not perfect, but an established standard) with the Precision 8Ds. However, I took the opportunity to do an A-B comparison before swapping them out for good. I was surprised (in a good way) to discover that I heard things in my music that I just wasn't able to hear with the old monitors. I dragged my wife into the studio and made her do the same comparison and she picked the Tannoys hands down (as did my daughter...okay, I was looking for a consensus). I'm sure I'll be getting better results with my mixes now because the bass is really well balanced and not as "boomy" as many other monitors on the market and the "sweet spot" is big enough to allow me to move around a bit.
