I just purchased these last week to upgrade the Peavey microphones in my PA system, and spent the weekend A/B testing them against my MXL909 condensor that I use in recording.May 15, 2012 Music Background: Singer-songwriter Although the AKG ... read more [+]website recommends this microphone for back-up vocals and not lead vocals, I can say it does very well with lead vocals or vocals in harmony group settings [think the Lettermen, CSN, Kingston Trio, Statler Brothers, Oak Ridge Boys]. This also outperformed my MXL in recording. It produces a very clean even signal across it's frequency range. And because it is a dynamic microphone instead of a condensor , it doesn't require phantom power. I even borrowed a Shure SM58 to compare it with and it outperformed the SM58 for evenness of response and clean reproduction of sound. AKG has a well-earned rep for quality products at reasonable prices and this does not disappoint. I'd recommend them to anyone seeking a high quality dynamic microphone and doesn't have a lot of money to spend. Even if one does have the money for higher priced mics--I'd recommend these, and with the money saved, take the spouse or significant other out for an evening. close [-] AKG P 3S MICROPHONE
