ReviewsBeautiful Guitar & an Amazing Plugged-In Tone
by Scott from Louisville, KY
I know they say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but this guitar is breathtakingly gorgeous! Trust me when I say that the online pictures do not do the guitar justice. It's the prettiest a... read more [+]coustic guitar that I've ever seen in person. Without a doubt, this guitar will turn heads wherever you go. So, I have absolutely no complaints about the looks or the build of this instrument. It's impeccable. There are a couple of items that are difficult to discern from the photos. First, this guitar is slightly smaller than a dreadnought. I wouldn't actually label is as a small-bodied guitar, but I would estimate that it's about 90% the size of a traditional dreadnought. After a day or two of playing, this wasn't a problem for me. Second, just to inform you, the back of this instrument does have a strip of inlay down the middle. There are no pics of the back of the guitar on this site, so I thought that I'd just pass that on for your information. It's a nice addition. Plugged in, this guitar sounds very, very sweet. The two pickups combine to create a tone that has the traditional crisp acoustic sound along with the warmth of the magnetic pickup. What's even better is that I am able to precisely control the balance between the two pickups with the rotary blend control. Along with the bass and treble controls, I am able to dial in the sound exactly to my taste. An added bonus is that this guitar has both a 1/4 inch and a mic jack going out. Either can be used to send out your signal, or you can use both to send out a stereo signal. (see Parker's website for more details on the electronics and an online demo). Unplugged, this guitar is "ok". This is why I rate the guitar at 4.5 It's not a bad sound by any stretch of the imagination, it's just a tad on the quiet side if you're used to a full dreadnought or jumbo sound. Again, it wasn't a problem for me personally. I decided that its plugged-in sound more than made up for this minor issue. As far as the action goes, I was at first very unhappy with this guitar. It arrived from Sweetwater with a very high action. Luckily, a minor truss rod adjustment from my local professional luthier fixed that problem in less than five minutes. The neck also felt a little wide to me at first, which required a little bit of getting used to on my part. All things considered, though, after the truss adjustment and a few days getting used to the size of the neck and body, I couldn't be happier. I feel lucky to own this instrument, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a beautiful guitar that plays with a wonderful plugged-in tone. close [-]
