Small cab. Great sound
It's small, but packs a great punch!
Got amp and cab
It's just as described .ckeans sound good and the diet even better.Ive been away from music for years and fir oractice it's a show stopper .However my personal opinion. The oeavy anos stand alone still today. The Vypyr models with the Sanoera foot control knock it out the oark .Just MHO .Anyways sweet water still the best of us ordering online .Peace out
It's an Orange. It's ~$
For about a hundred bucks you can grab yourself a perfect little practice amp that in my case still upsets the neighbors. The DNA in this amp is Orange through and through and solid in every way; sound, build quality and portability. It sounds amazing clean or dirty with low or high volume/gain and I couldn't be happier with my decision to make the purchase. Unfortunately there isn't a cover included but I've repurposed a canvas bag that fits over the top perfectly to keep the dust away. It's an 8" speaker. It's for practice but you can push it to the limit and you won't be disappointed.
Exactly what I needed!
I'm not very "techie" but this amp does everything I need for a practice amp in a small room. Little in size but big in sound. I'm happy with it!
Perfect for small practice.
It sounds really great. Looks cool. The cabinet is so solid that if you want to switch a different speaker you have that option. Let's face it. It is an 8 inch speaker cabinet and it does exactly what it is supposed to do. I use my micro terror with it. Also a black star 1 watt head. I have other cabinets as well. If you have a micro terror or a micro dark try them through a 1x12 or 2x12 so much fun! If you are starting out on guitar you can get this cabinet and pair it with many different smaller 20 watt or less heads. Make sure the Ohms match. The mistake I made early on is I thought I had to have a 40 watt tube amplifier. You don't need that much! Smaller is plenty loud. Thanks sweetwater.com! Packed perfectly and in pristine condition. Nick Blough you rock!
Orange 20 watt 1x12
Excellent little amp. Sound and tone far exceeds my expectations.
Little Powerhouse
Super little cabinet, solid sound with the Orange Micro Dark 20!
I love it
While there are many options in the world, this cabinet is the most practical speaker cabinet I have encountered. I scoffed past these for years, but in all honestly, what more do you need for your solo-personal needs? Paired with the Micro Dark, I feel unstoppable, efficient, and free. Truly a minimalist's dream.
Wow
This little guy packs quite a punch. Nice and crunchy when you turn the gain up. Great traveling and practice Amp. Don't leave home without it.
Speaker
Great item for the price.
Awesome practice amp
I plugged in the Orange micro dark to this little cab and enjoyed playing non-stop for the next couple of hours. I can listen distinctly to everything I play. This is a nice cab for practice, maybe jam along to some tunes or even play with a drummer. I would also mention that I bought a bigger cab "1x12" (Orange also). Comparing the sound of both, If you are in a small room, you won't need anything bigger than this 1x8.
Great Little Speaker
This little thing rocks! If you're looking for a low volume practice speaker that sounds great then look no further.
It’s orange!!!!
I ordered this to be able to play my PRS MT-15 at home. Works so well. I'm not sure why anyone could ever complain about this cabinet. It's small, way louder then you'd expect, sounds great, and looks incredibly cool. Without this, I wouldn't be able to play at home at lowered volumes. I'm definitely happy with it. I may buy a full cab for playing at regular volumes.
Dynamite in a Small Package
This little speaker paired with the Micro-Terror amp is serving me so well. I really love that pure and raw distorted sound of an overdriven amp and what I like about this setup is I"m able to go about 75% on the gain and volume to get a good overdriven sound. I"m in my son"s band (mostly southern rock and I play slide) and I get a lot of compliments on the sound. I always mic it so the house sound guy can control what he or she needs but I have plenty of stage sound. Not to mention it is small and light to transport. I was real apprehensive when my son suggested this setup. I knew I wanted that "Orange" sound. It is interesting while most guys with 30-50 watt tube amps (the Micro Terror has a tube!) are fighting trying to get the overdriven sound they want, the sound guys are always asking them to turn their stage sound down which infringes in their overdrive sound, I get to crank mine up to 75%.
Sounds decent for its size
For an 8" speaker this sounds pretty decent. It sounds a lot better LOUD than soft, which is no surprise. All things considered it's a good buy. I wanted something compact just t practice with and this is perfect.
Amazing sound
I bought this as a package with the Orange Micro Terror 20 watt head.
AMAZING sound. Love it. Goes just about anywhere and it is soooo much sound in a little package.
As usual, my sales engineer Ryan W. and Sweetwater took excellent care of me from start to finish.
impulse buy
I bought this cab on a whim to go with a MV50AC head. With a T type guitar, this thing sings. sparkly highs and dark overdriven tones come easy! ill be ordering a second with the rock head from the same line soon! BIG sounds for such a small cabinet! Happy Hunting everybody!
Better than expected
I got this cab to go with my micro terror head. I was really looking for something that would sound good especially at lower volumes. It more than surpassed my expectations. I was amazed at the depth in tone I am getting. Highly recommend.
Awesome!
Sounds great!
Great speaker
Ignore your eyes and the price. This speaker cabinet just plain sounds great. I use three Hotone amps with it (Purple Wind, British Invasion, Mojo Diamond), and they all sound great. I got these rigs on a lark, figuring they might be fun change of pace novelties. Now I can't stop playing through them. The Orange PPC108 gets loud and full, and works with a range of amp sounds. No super-deep, thumpy bass, but I don't like that in my guitar tone anyway. Awesome buy, and Sweetwater's the place to get it.
Neat little cabinet
I got a demo model and I was still impressed. it can get LOUD if you need it to. its pretty portable, and when paired with the Micro Terror you get yourself a winning combo
Interesting Buy
I normally don't buy cabs, just combo amps...but man I love this little thing. Combined with my Hotone Purple Wind, it's really warm, Jazzy even...and then...It ROCKS the house, gets loud, stays soft, you name it man. I'd definitely recommend this to anyone wanting an affordable, great looking cabinet.
Very Cool
One of these bad boys had the windows shaking in their panes. Then I saw you can hook two of these together along with my trusty Micro-Terror !!! The second is ordered and on its way. : )
WOW!!!
Sounds awesome with the Tiny Terror Head...
Better than expected
I had already purchased one Micro Terror head and cabinet and was blown away by the sound and size.
I wanted to see how it would sound with two cabinets.
WOW!! Unreal!
I have used two amps in a stereo rig for years so I decided to get another Micro Terror head too.
The sound is unbelievable for such a small rig!!
Adam, and the rest of the folks at Sweetwater have always been great to work with. Fast shipping, great prices and gear!
Thanks
Great sound
I got this cabinet after I bought the Micro Terror head.
It sounds amazing for its size!
I had used the head with a 2 x 12 Celestion loaded cabinet and it sounded great too.
Do yourself a favor and get the head and cabinet together!!
I am buying another set to use in my small stereo rig set up.
Excellent Apartment Cab
Excellent Cab for Apt/Bedroom use, while its meant to be matched up with the Micro Terror this little BadA** handles my Tiny Terror and Rocker 30 heads no problem.
I would definitely suggest grabbing an attenuator if you plan on making serious use of the cab (as it only handles 20 Watts RMS) with a larger head, but if you're using it with a lunchbox style amp and just want to get a great tone at lower volumes this cab does it.
Price point is great, and it looks pretty killer too, great to see this kind of stuff from Orange
You will be amazed!
This is no joke! Match one or two of these with the Orange Micro Terror amp head and you will have an excellent half or full stack about 1% of the size of a Marshall half or full stack. Only with an incredible sound! Buy two Micro Terrors and PPC108 speaker cabs and use an aby box to switch between clean and scream and for about $500 to $700 (depending on whether you use one or two PPC108's per Amp head) and you will have a monster set up. Then use two Sennheiser e906 mics in front of them and run them through two channels on your board and you will be amazed!!!
Size matters? I beg to differ with Orange !
Ok so i just purchased the orange 1x8 cab. A little retail therapy and wasnt expecting much to be honest. I am so glad i bought this little guy. For such a small speaker it sounds a heck of alot bigger than it is ! This is absolutely perfect for the mancave ! My first and definately not my last Orange purchase. As always Sweetwater had it to me within 3 days . Thanks again Sweetwater you rock ! Sincerely, Scott Ebbens
potent little cabinet!
I use this as the extension cab for my little 9 volt battery powered Smokey Amp. It sounds pretty good! I plugged my highly modded Epiphone Valve Junior and it is underwhelming, but that is mainly due to the speaker not having the right voice for that amp, NOT the speaker cabinet. I may have to buy a matching Orange amp!
Orange PPC108 1x8
great piece, perfect for your practice rig. great fit and finish. as always sweet water is the best. great service great. great support.
Looks great...sounds great
Great sound for size of speaker. I paired it with a British Invasion mini-amp head, and the rig is so small it fits on my desk, along with my desktop and other office equipment. The speaker produces a nice enough bass and it seems to bring out the true sounds of my guitars at low volumes. I use this mostly for learning new songs or brushing up on old songs in my studio, and have not tried this with a group, or at very loud volumes. Even though the cab is small, it looks like a professional quality instrument. This was a great purchase.
Serious Stereo
I was looking for a learners practice set, so I bought one and the Micro-Terror and ran them through my effects board and then the sound was so good that by the ghosts of musicians I just was forced to buy the 2nd set, amazing id the least I can say! it is so beautiful that it makes you want to play, if you want a full sound that you'll not get tired of then just go do it, someday I want to be playing as good as you, but now I'm 63 and just started and no one around to teach me anything but I'll beat on the strings until I get it right, now I'm old enough to appreciate trying to play on wonderful equipment as these ORANGE UNITS
Great companion to small amp head :)
Connected my Fender Pawnshop Greta tube amp to this. Ver sweet tone and plenty of output. All around solid cab.
Good small speakers!
I own 2 0f these! they are used with a 20 watt Micro Dark amp ! you will need a junction box, to use 2 at a time, because they have only one input jack each! They sound great though!
Great Speakers
I bought 2 of these to use with a Orange "Micro Dark" 15 watt amp head! You will need an OLD EHX ['Electro-Harmonix'] 5X Junction Box, or a 2-female-to 1-Male connector as the speakers have only one input @, and the head has only one output jack. But it all works!
Good small speaker!!
I have 2 of these 8" cabs, to use with a Micro Dark Head! The rig is really nice, for small venues, with great sound!
Just OK
I gave this four stars because I don't really have another 8 inch Speaker to compare it to. Overall it sounds OK to me, and it will get loud. Compared to the other speaker cabinets I have this one is a little shrill. That may be common with 8" guitar speakers. There just isn't anything about it that makes me say Wow this deserves 5 stars.
Big sound little package
That's what she said. This little produces amazing tones thru headphones and thru the mini speaker cab. A little difficult to keep it under control, hence the 4 stars, if you don't have a neighbor and can crank it, this amp is for you. Distortion is pure Orange/British classic distortion.
Orange ppc108
Great little cabinet great sound.
A bit stuffy
I am using a Bulgari "lunchbox" tube amp with my strat to drive this. I had the amp hooked up to a much larger Orange at the store and it sounded great. With this smaller box the sound was constricted and muffled to my ear. For grins, I removed the jack mounting plate from the rear of the box to allow a bit of porting. The sound was much fuller, louder and cleaner.
Of course fooling with the construction of the box voids the warrantee, but for $100 it was worth it to me. I have since removed the entire back panel and cut a 2 1/2 x 5 opening that has a hinged panel to allow the opening to be closed or left open. Works great, but not an easy task to do well.
FYI if you watch the Orange video of these being made, they show the material as being high quality, cabinet makers birch plywood. On this smaller unit it is a different material with the outer layers being what looks like a composite/pulp type of material. Also, it is made in China which is not shown in the video.
It does what you expect it to do
The orange ppc-108 is exactly what it was built to be a solidly built cab with an 8 inch speaker. It does low volume clean tones well and it"s great in a small environment. That"s what it"s best at.
Tired of heavy gear
I have been using a vox type open back combo amp at my church for well over 3 years. I often leave it there hoping no one will steal it but I'm really just refusing to carry such heavy equipment.
In short, the playing situation has limited monitoring and the stage volume is currently "as quiet as we can get it". The front of house has everything but drums miced up so that they have the most control over the mix. The issue being, we've got live drums and the combo amp really had to be cranked in order for me to hear it and play my parts accurately.
I was really influenced to purchase this cab because of the incredibly light weight. The amp I'm using now Is a mesa mini rec in the 10 watt mode to keep it from over powering the speaker. I just use clean and vintage mode to get a more American/vintage clean and dirty sound that is a little more to my taste than the vox style amp I was using. This speaker is very directional, so I tilt it back against the amp head and point it up towards my ears and magic! I now have a monitor, my guitar amp is much quieter and I sound better. I gave this 4 stars because the tone of the speaker is not that incredible, I ordered an aftermarket 8 inch speaker from another well known company which greatly improved the volume output and bass response of the entire cab.
For the studio, if you're looking for an all around cab for great sound you might be disappointed... I will say the lack of bass and poorly translated high end makes this cab perfect for recording solo guitar or clean guitar.
Over all, I am very happy to have this tiny cab and I will use it on a regular basis! I also teach, so being able to carry in really good tone to my lesson studio is amazing.
Really good Cab
Great little cab. Good sound for a 8" speaker. Does the job I needed it for. Using it for reference for live playing. Built very solid. Good quality product.
Needs a larger cabinet
The speaker itself is actually pretty good, but the tiny cabinet isn't doing it any favors. It sounds thin and woody. I built a cabinet with 3 times the internal air volume and the difference was huge. Orange...would it really kill your bottom line that much to build a larger cab for what is a solid sounding speaker?
Baby Orange
I think it's a little thin sounding . But then I'm really used to 12" speakers . Got the Micro terror dark hooked to it , which is a great little amp very clean and tons of gain . Great build quality . I'm still a little impressed with it for its size !
Small Speaker, Big Disappointment
I wanted a smaller cab to go with my Orange Rocker 15. I normally play though 12's, but needed something that I can take with me when we go to our condo down south. I gave it two stars, because the cabinet seems nice, and it's as cute as can be. I think if I take the back off the cab, I'll find a piece of dung in there with a couple of wires sticking out of it, cuz that's what this thing sounds like. Totally lacking in fidelity, and boxy. Some boxiness was expected from an 8" speaker in a cab, but....take a Vintage 30 in a cab, put it in a wooden crate, nail the top on, and then lay a couple blankets over it, and you'll know how this thing sounds. I play with good gear, and I appreciate the nuance I get with it. This thing has no nuance...it's like a club.
As I said, the cab is nice, and I'm. planning to get the Orange 12" cab with the Vintage 30 for my main setup. Thought it would be cool to have the regular and mini versions. I'll probably still experiment with putting a different 8" speaker in this thing. I don't have any familiarity with 8" speakers, but they can't all sound this bad. I stunned by how many good reviews this thing has. I mean, you'd have to set the bar really low IMO.
Orange 1x8 cab
Fit and finish is excellent. Looks like a high quality cab. Only one input so get the thoughts of mini stack out of your head. The sound quality of this cab I would compare to a 15w crate amp. Sound is thin and brittle. Can handle little to no low end. When combined with the Orange micro 20 head, it still sounds aweful. I would love to send it back to Sweetwater. Definitely not what I have seen and heard in all the product videos.
Save Your $
I don't like to write negative reviews, but I got this cab with my little Dark Terror 15 watt Head, and it totally craps out when you crank the amp. Sound-wise, it's basically worthless. Save your money, and buy a better cabinet than this.
