Fantastic Organ
by Gary from NY, April 2007
I have owned the Nord Electro 73 for about three months now, and couldn't be happier with it. Before buying it I tried out all the competitors. The organ sounds are full, complex and fantastic. Playing this instrument makes me feel truly empowered, and my bandmates also are amazed at how good this instrument sounds - it really adds depth to the overall band sound.
The layout is easy to work with and I like the action very much. It also looks great, and there are no issues whatsoever with build quality.
Last, and certainly not least, at under 25 pounds it is light enough not to be a chore to bring to rehearsals.
I recommend that anyone interested in a drawbar organ take a very serious look at this one.
Got it in, love it!

Just as I'd said in an earlier review, I was adding a Clavia Nord Electro to my studio and live gig arsenal. Now that I actually have it in my studio, I thought I'd return and write a bit more about it.
At first, I was taken back by the small size (the Electro 61 version is what I bought). But, after playing full-sized Yamaha Motifs and Roland keyboards, any 61-note keybaord would be small. It's great if you're looking for portability! It was a small adjustment. Also, the key touch on the Electro takes a little getting used to after playing on a Korg Karma and a Roland Fantom X7, but that's just me.
My main goal was to have a keyboard that replicated the B-3, the Leslie cabinet, and still have the old electric EP's from the 70's. This keyboard does just that. This is probably the easiest keyboard to use of any keyboard I've played. The layout is simple and straightforward - perfect for a gigging musician. I will say, though, that the Roland VR-760 is also a great organ-keyboard for the money, and it's obvious that Roland now has something to compete with the Electro. If you bought either the Roland or the Clavia, I don't think you'd be disappointed, as both have great piano and organ sounds, with the Roland having basic synth sounds, as well.
The Clavia Electro is simply a great keyboard to have - period. The sounds are excellent, and the Leslie simulator is near perfect. The effects section is easy to use and apply, and the programming is simple. All the sounds are clean and precise, and Clavia did a good job of sticking to what they started out to accomplish - presenting a keyboard that specializes in organ and classic ep's. Now, if I can just get over being insecure for hauling in such a small keyboard...
Awesome Organs...
by chuck hutcheson from mcrae, ga, April 2005
I've done a few gigs with a local groove keyboardist, and he owned one of these babies. I own a Korg Triton and Yamaha Motif ES8, and I must say, the organ sounds on the Nord keyboard are just plain sweet... If for nothing else, I'm considering buying one of these just for the organ sounds. I'm building my home studio, and I gig live a good bit, and I'm trying really hard to keep my check book under control. If you want an awesome organ-based keybaord with incredible Leslie simulation, check one of these out.
Best stage B3 out there
by Steve from Minneapolis, MN, February 2005
I have an Electro 73 and think that it is easily the best organ for live performances, at least for those of us who don't have roadies to cart a B3 and Leslie around. The sound is excellent, for both the organ and pianos. The acoustic piano patch, which has been widely criticized, is actually perfectly fine for any sort of live performance situation provided that it is used in a stereo mix. The Leslie simulation also requires a stereo mix to sound best.
What's not to like? Well, Clavia didn't try to match the original B3 control layout. So if you're into the "B3 Physical Experience" this isn't for you. I myself am into making music and carrying as light a kit as possible and care about those things far more than the B3 Physical Experience. I also find that the Electro's presets eliminate much of the need to fuss with drawbars and other settings on stage, just set up the combinations you want in advance and hit the button.
If you're big into fully weighted keys for pianos, then you might not like the Electro's feel for the pianos. The Electro does have an excellent, smooth, responsive keyboard but it feels like a really solid synth, not like a piano.
One of the features that doesn't get the attention it deserves in the press reviews is the effects. By using the stage piano patches and combinations of effects, you can achieve a surprisingly wide palette of sounds. It's not a synth but you can still go a long way with it.
For me, I need the organ sounds, and the Electro is a good enough piano that I don't feel like I have to bring one. The Rhodes, Clav, and Wurly are a bonus.
As Real as it Gets
by Anonymous from Minnesota, October 2004
I've had my electro 73 for a year now and it is hands down the most powerfull, best sounding, most realistic, easiest to use, most inpiring keyboard out there. The simulated B3 organ sounds better than any clone I have ever played (especially in the high pitched notes). The Stereo Leslie simulation is the best I've heard and it even sounds great in Mono.
The piano samples are hands down the most intracate and realistic you will find. The rhodes/wurlitzer sounds are especially astounding. Check out www.clavia.com and listen to the mp3's; you will be amazed. Also notice that all the software upgrades and additional piano sounds are free!
This thing weighs in at 25 lbs.
The metal case with wood end caps is as tough and it is nostalgic. The pots still feel new after a year of constant gigs and recording. A 10 out of 10 in my book.
